This was an amazing Christmas show, a great way to think about history and enjoy the beautiful songs of Christmas.
What an incredible telling of a momentous and moving event in history. I was touched by the stories of the soldiers and especially the music. Cantus was stunning beyond belief and they were so well attuned that I couldn't make out one single voice - just one single movement. Thank you for sharing this with such passion and talent!
Moving production . Excellence in music, and excellent to remember those who served as well. The heart of Christmas.
Very seldom can it be said that the sound quality of a live performance even comes close to what can be achieved in a recording studio with all of the technology that exists today. In this case however, it would be impossible to achieve in a studio what was achieved by the Cantus choir in the Pantages Theatre. Their voices, and harmonies were exceptional. The three non-singing actors achieved that same level of brilliance. The simplicity of the stage magnified the power of this bitter sweet story. My advice to any future Directors would be to not try and make it better. That would simply be a waste of time. Just leave it alone. You can't create two versions of perfection.
Very moving performance. Cantus sounded great. The Panteges was beautiful.
A touching and humane performance impressing on the audience the absurdity of this war, and maybe all wars. Performed by an amazing group of singers that never disappoint.
Unbelievably great performance, both by Cantus and the actors. I've recommended this to everyone I know! Very moving.
We attended All is Calm with our 15 year old grandson for his December birthday. We all were delighted by this true meaning of Christmas story, The talented actors shared true to life events in the words of the soldiers present for this amazing event and Cantus' ensemble sent shivers up our spines. Exquisite performances by one and all. Will never forget this experience. The only negative was the incredibly uncomfortable balcony seats we were unfortunate enough to have reserved. I'm only 5'4" and there was NO place to put my knees as the seat in front of me was inches from mine. My poor husband and grandson, both much taller than me, were in utter pain throughout the performance, having to sit sideways to cram their knees into a minute space to the far right of their seats. We paid too much to be that uncomfortable, but assume other seats in this beautiful theater would be better. Live and learn.
I didn't know what I was going to- thought it was a Cantus concert. I was pleasantly surprised that I had gotten myself into more. Listening to Cantus is always a treat and the bonus of being told this wonderful story so well made it very special. My favorite moment was when the lights came up and we turned to leave and I realized we had been sitting in front of a very large group of school children. They were so quiet (when not clapping loudly) that we hadn't known they were there. The entire audience was so still during this performance when not applauding.
It was a great way to go back in time to see the truce of 1914. Loved the reading of the letters. The songs were amazing. When the soldier's shadows came up from the smoke I was in tears. My only complaint is I thought it was going to be more like the orginal. But still amazing.
Cantus is singing very well these days--full, vibrant, clean, musical. Reminiscent of rich male choruses of yore--and appropriately so for this piece. Well acted/declaimed by the actors. Timely/timeless message inherent in the soldiers' journals and letters home upon which the script is built. Very comfortable length. Win-win-win! Highly recommended for all.
Outstanding Performance !!! A vert talented cast !!
Phenomenal singing! Highly recommend seeing All is Calm!
Excellent show. The boys of Cantus do a remarkable job performing a beautiful piece. All Is Calm is a touching show. Certainly recommended.
This is a lovely setting to a lovely work. Excellent musicality from the performers and excellent acting from the speaking performers.
One of the most profoundly moving choral presentations I have ever attended.
Astonishing, beautiful, Magnificant, important. I saw it twice, wish I had gone to every performance. The story is historically poignant. The staging and performance of ALL US CALM is one of the reasons we cherish theater. ALL IS CALM is a rare and significant theaterical presentation. Please bring it back every year, for a longer run.
The music from All is Calm was terrific. The story was told well and I learned about the Christmas Truce in addition to being entertained.
The show was not very exhilarating. It was a wonderful story, however, it was basically an hour of choir singing. Amazing singing, none the less. Unforgettable singing. I brought a group and everyone agreed. The show was stretched.
My husband and I both loved the incredible singing of Cantus and the beautiful true story of the Christmas truce of 1914. Would love to go every year and are waiting to see how LatteDa adapts the play when Cantus moves on.
