  • So glad that we didn't miss All is Calm!

    by Allars1 on 12/12/15Fox Cities PAC - AppletonRating: 5 out of 5

The a capella singing was incredible and perfect. We really enjoyed the WWI era songs and the many traditional Christmas songs. This huge theater was packed through the first 3 floors, with overflow on the fourth balcony. For us history buffs, the icing on the cake was a Q&A with four performers after the show. They shared the history of the actual truces (7) of 1914 and explained that all the dialogue in the play is taken from actual letters and records. We are still talking about the experience with our friends.

  • Only wish there had been soundtrack

by scubabuf on 12/12/15Fox Cities PAC - AppletonRating: 5 out of 5

Gorgeous show--beautiful at Christmastime with an important message. The cast understood the material at a very deep level, and honored the narratives featured. The strength of harmony, with 12 gorgeous voices, was so powerful. And the author's song choice--songs of the day--was genius. I'm running out of creative adjectives and adverbs to use to describe this show, so I'll just say this: don't miss it.

  • all is calm was awesome

I was totally impressed by the audience turnout--that's not directly a reflection of the show, I suppose, but it showed the interest the show generated. I already owned a cd of the show, but seeing it in person added a huge impact to the message.

  • Incredible harmony, with insightful history.

by GeorgiaBeau on 12/12/15Fox Cities PAC - AppletonRating: 4 out of 5

Beautiful harmony from start to finish! The voices on stage were wonderful and they were accomplished in so many languages. Aside from the beautiful singing, the history aspect was very nicely incorporated into the show. The marquee, with the language crawl was very helpful! A wonderful evening!

This is a moving, beautiful performance. What they do in a little over an hour with no back up band is amazing. Their voices are unforgettable. I am buying the CD which I almost never do.

Contus pure vocal sound makes this poignant story a truly unique experience. This is a story that every family needs to see at Christmas time. Bravo, Peter Rothstein, for your creation of this production!

  • A very powerful experience!

by Pearlsweet on 12/28/14Pantages Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Engaged and deeply touched, I found myself in tears throughout the last half of the performance. The intensity of this theatrical performance came from the story and the telling of it through song and artistic narrative.

  • Moving and beatiful... but will it be the same?

by BuckeyeMN on 12/25/14Pantages Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 4 out of 5

I wondered how this story could be told in a theatrical/musical context. I was impressed. It was a beautifully written and performed telling of the story of the Christmas Truce. Knowing how the story ended (that they started shooting at each other again the next day) made it particularly moving. The literature/history buff in me was happy to see selections by Owen and Sassoon. My only reservation -- and the reason I gave it four stars instead of five -- was because this is the last year Cantus will be performing the music. A musical group like that is hard to find -- like an orchestra, each voice is tuned to provide something the others don't. I find it hard to believe that the show will be the same once their involvement ends.

  • Sad to see this end, apparently...

by FuzzBusted on 12/25/14Pantages Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 4 out of 5

Just like last year; this was a very crisp production. It is a nice retelling (between the musical itself and the exhibits outside) of parts of the history of WW 1.

  • All is calm was mezmerizing.

    by kgm69 on 12/24/14Pantages Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

The theater just hummed with their singing. What a sensational group of men. Such a story to be told at this time of year and with such breathtaking tone

  • So glad we went to this performance!

by Keeksie on 12/24/14Pantages Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

How could we not have heard about this event from anyone before?! It was amazingly, artistically performed. What a unique way to communicate this historic event to the public. The vocals of Cantus were outstanding! Absolutely wonderful!

  • Even better the second time..

by Pooles on 12/24/14Pantages Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

This was a repeat for us. We attended All is Calm last year as well. It is a highlight of our Christmas season to hear this wonderful story retold. The music is the best we will hear this season. It is refreshing to hear real singing in a world where increasingly we hear only pop music that is too loud, too repititious and too shallow and devoid of the harmonies and musicianship that used to be so much more common place. What will we do next year if this is the last year?

This was an uplifting performance of a historic event of the triumph of the human spirit. What a wonderful way to celebrate this holiday season and to look forwrd to anew year with new hope.

  • All is calm was first class

by PricessCleo on 12/24/14Pantages Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

This production of all is Calm with Cantus was an excellent presentation. The sparse staging, incredible singing, and actors reciting the actually words of the soldiers present that day was a great mix. This was a 90 minute treat combining song, humor, poignancy and a lasting good feeling.

  • All Is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914

    by KNS6 on 12/24/14Pantages Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

This was my second time seeing this play. Last year was it was a gift to me, this year I took a friend as a gift. I hope to continue the tradition of the gift year after year. It is a beautiful reminder of what Christmas is truly all about.

The singing talent of these men was wonderful! Made me want to listen to them much longer. The three men who were the actors were passionate in their characters. Wonderful experience!

  • Simple yet outstanding

by geebub on 12/23/14Pantages Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

The show stood on its own merits, with few props, some simple lighting and a few fake snowflakes. Wonderful voices with some very poignant silences.

  • A Christmas Concert with history and meaning

    by Espresso2go on 12/23/14Pantages Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Setting is Christmas 100 years ago early in World War I. A touching story told with sparse dialogue and set. Beautifully sung Christmas Carols acapella. Stark contrast between war and peace.

  • All Is Calm was excellent

A great way to kick off Christmas week. The use of correspondence to introduce the music put the portrayed event in perspective.
