About

Disney’s ALADDIN is a dazzling and extravagant showcase of special effects — including a flying magic carpet during “A Whole New World” — as well as glittering-gold costumes and art deco-style sets that mirror the grandeur of a Busby Berkeley musical. One of Broadway’s most popular musical comedies, the show opened at the legendary New Amsterdam Theatre on March 20, 2014, and has since broken numerous house records (grossing over $500 million on Broadway). Eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken composed the show’s music. The lyrics are by two-time Oscar winner Howard Ashman (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid), as well as three-time Tony Award and three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice and six-time Tony Award nominee Chad Beguelin. The book is by Beguelin and direction/choreography is by two-time Tony Award-winner Casey Nicholaw.

I traveled with my 3 daughters and we all loved this play! They were so excited and all the participants were so professional and really good. It was our first broadway play and it def peaked our interest to see more! This is a total must see!

everyone knows the story, etc., and the show would've been great enough without adding the corny jokes about current topics (ex: nobody got time for that, seriously??)

  • Aladdin will have you flying high on Magic!

by Gwenevere on 4/11/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

First, I am a long lover of all classic Disney. With that in mind, I took my 21 yr. old daughter to see Aladdin, and although she felt the jokes were "corny" (a required attitude of ex-Disney children until they have their own), I LOVED the jokes...especially the Genie...who may not be Robin Williams....but has huge talent in itty bitty space. 7 minutes of Cave of Wonder number, with segments of every Menken-Ashman classic Disney show, was a big "in joke" surprise. Best compliment....would easily go back to see it again. Advise: don't sit in orchestra for this one....gobo lights lit up the floor with designs. What magic! Saw prototype show at Disneyland, and this is better with less giant animals like Lion King.

Great for adults not for young children-was disappointed- wanted to take my 4 yr old granddaughter dressed like jasmine but not for her age group - thought would be like lion king with lots of visuals-mature jokes- Jabar is too dark and scary for children - he also is in too many scenes with his ugly face and over emphasized dark costume - very talented ensemble dancers were the best! Sets were boring

  • Stupendous!

by Smeerkin on 4/11/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

I really was not sure how this Disney movie would translate to the stage but was so pleasantly surprised at how absolutely fantastic it was! It was TREMENDOUS! It was riveting, engaging, an absolute hoot and the Genie was by far, a phenomenal performer. It sounds so cliche but it truly is fun "for the whole family". Treat yourself and you will not be disappointed. Thank you for a wonderful memory!

  • Aladdin was unforgettae

by JoRosen on 4/11/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

The show was amazing from start to finish. The person who played Aladdin was spot on just like the movie. The genie was amazing and funny. Can't wait to see the show again.

Terrific and I would recommend this show to everyone! so entertaining!

  • Poor dialogue and corny jokes

by Twoyearoldtwins on 4/11/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 3 out of 5

Although the costumes and scenery were fantastic and the magic carpet scene was magical, the writing of the dialogue was very disappointing. The jokes were not clever and not funny. The actor playing Genie was very talented...it was quite unfortunate that he had to recite such corny lines. I think the show might be good for children of about 7 or 8, but it is too scary for me to bring my almost 4 year olds...

  • Aladdin is not to be missed!

by Photogrfn on 4/11/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Saw the show mid-week and knew it would be similiar to the movie but were pleasantly surprised by the stage show. Bright, fast-paced, and super energetic, this cast did not disappoint. James M Iglehart brought a Tony-worthy performance as the Genie - he was hysterical! Loved the whole cast and kudos to the costume and set designers for using nearly every color and fabric imaginable to make this production dazzling. Highly reccomend this for adults and children alike!! Only disappointment was the theater seats - location was great but the seats are tiny if you are taller than 6 feet, be aware that it will be like sitting in the middle seat on an airplane.

  • Aladdin knocked my socks off!

The production was fun, great synergy amongst the cast, and surprised me beyond my expectations! The costumes were incredibly beautiful. Genie gave a spectacular performance and I would definitely see this again.

by JDNorth on 4/9/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

For a new Broadshow, Aladdin was beautifully done. They maintained the classic Disney movie feel while adding jokes that fit the setting. The acting and singing was spectacular and I would see it again!

  • Simply Magical!

by AudraFan on 4/9/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Disney is the master at making shows that are as appealing to adults as they are to children. This stage adaptation is superb; the sets and costumes are gorgeous, the songs, both the familiar and the new, are lively and engaging. The energy level emoted by the cast reaches out and grabs audience members. Overall, this was 2.5 hours of absolute pleasure.
