About

Disney’s ALADDIN is a dazzling and extravagant showcase of special effects — including a flying magic carpet during “A Whole New World” — as well as glittering-gold costumes and art deco-style sets that mirror the grandeur of a Busby Berkeley musical. One of Broadway’s most popular musical comedies, the show opened at the legendary New Amsterdam Theatre on March 20, 2014, and has since broken numerous house records (grossing over $500 million on Broadway). Eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken composed the show’s music. The lyrics are by two-time Oscar winner Howard Ashman (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid), as well as three-time Tony Award and three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice and six-time Tony Award nominee Chad Beguelin. The book is by Beguelin and direction/choreography is by two-time Tony Award-winner Casey Nicholaw.

Aladdin was a brilliant show! The Genie was hilarious, the special effects awesome and the addition of Aladdin's 3 friends as sidekicks was excellent. It was so much fun I felt like a kid again watching it.

These is the glitz n glamor of broadway n then there is how Disney does broadway!!! And just like how disney does anything else they knock this one right out of the park!!!! From the set, special effects, down to the costumes, these amazing sights made the music n story even come more alive. Laughter was the other important key!!! It was not a show only for children but adults too!!! It left people of all ages laughing!

by wallynn on 4/13/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Started off a little slow thought it was going to be low budget but was I ever wrong , it was entertaining lively and funny. The sets were amazing and colorful. Genie was perfect with just the right amount of humor to please adults and character enough to please children.

Play was great, songs were well done. Cast was amazing they were spot on. Very funny. It was age appropriate for everyone. We loved the actor who played the Genie, he was very good, had a strong voice and witty. Jabar's sidekick Iago was also great and memorable with his lines and the way he followed Jabar around the stage.

MY hat goes to the casting director for the casting of the Aladdin and the Genie. Every aspect of the play was magical for young and old alike.

  • Sadly...I didn't love it

by playright on 4/12/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 3 out of 5

It is a good show filled with hard working entertainers and amazing sets. Yet, I felt it should have been renamed 'The Genie of Agrabah'. Both Aladdin's and Jasmine's roles were secondhand to the Robin Williams-esque performance by the genie. I never felt the romance between the two lead characters and I felt the genie was trying too hard for a mystical being. Jafar and Iago were outstanding and I found myself looking forward to their return to the stage and not caring whether Aladdin and Jasmine ever got together. I expected more from Disney...more substance...

  • Magical !!!!

by Yawp on 4/12/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

i was around New York and thought I couldn't miss seeing à Broadway show. i had a good feeling about aladdin, but was expecting a bit kitsch kind of a show. But when I entered the theatre, only by itself it was worth the show, what an amazing place ! Then the show went along and I was amazed ! It was funny, entertaining, magical and I was caught the Disney magic. Well, even if you are sceptical as I was, go for it, you'll be amazed.

  • Aladdin is amazing!

Great show...I loved it! The costumes, choreography, performances, everything makes the show unbelievable. And the Genie is the best part, he is so funny...great performance. One thing that really surprise me was how they did the magic carpet ride during "A whole new world", just perfect!

Good play. They didn't follow the story line as close as I would have liked but still a lot of fun. Some of the original songs were weak as well.
