About

Disney’s ALADDIN is a dazzling and extravagant showcase of special effects — including a flying magic carpet during “A Whole New World” — as well as glittering-gold costumes and art deco-style sets that mirror the grandeur of a Busby Berkeley musical. One of Broadway’s most popular musical comedies, the show opened at the legendary New Amsterdam Theatre on March 20, 2014, and has since broken numerous house records (grossing over $500 million on Broadway). Eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken composed the show’s music. The lyrics are by two-time Oscar winner Howard Ashman (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid), as well as three-time Tony Award and three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice and six-time Tony Award nominee Chad Beguelin. The book is by Beguelin and direction/choreography is by two-time Tony Award-winner Casey Nicholaw.

  • Fun Show

by momfromjtown on 4/16/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

Very enjoyable show. The costumes and choreography were great. There is a lot of broad humor and references to other Disney movies and a show on ABC. The adults enjoyed it as much as the kids.

  • Aladdin--still a classic!

by allysonwonderlandmua on 4/15/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Aladdin was always my favorite Disney movie growing up! The whole cast was fab and the costumes----WOW!!! HOW BEAUTIFUL! Everything glittered! I wish it was in my closet! The Genie stole the show! It was just amazing! Proud of Your Boy was perfect and it was soooo great to see Jonathan Freeman as Jafar (he did the voice in the movie!). Sad that his makeup took so long to take off that we couldn't meet him at the stage door after the show :( But we did see Jasmine, Iago Aladdin and the Genie. SO AMAZING! I Wish I could see it again, and I REALLY hope they put this out on DVD to purchase!

This musical is everything a musical should be. Whoever is responsible for casting the 2 Villains is a genius. Not to mention the rest of the cast!!!!! We enjoyed every moment……one show stopper better than the next. We will be going to see this one again!!!! Broadway doesn't get any better than this!!!!!

Disney has done it again! Aladdin ranks with the greats animated movies bought to life on Broadway.

  • Brilliant!

by NatalieM84 on 4/15/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

This was our first visit to Broadway and we were not disappointed! We had great seats on the front row of the mezzanine and the view was fantastic. The constumes were out of this world and the special effects were unbelievable! The cast are fantastic - particularly the Genie. Disney have kept as close to the original story as possible and the changes really worked (i.e. the introduction of Aladdin's friends/comrades).

  • Aladdin was awesome!

by BroadwayBabe826 on 4/15/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

The scenery and costumes were just beautiful, more than what I expected. The actor who played Aladdin was phenomenal, as was the guy who played the Genie. The actress who played Jasmine was a little underwhelming - she didn't act very well, she screeched instead of sang, it was a bit distracting.

  • by Anonymous on 4/15/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

The show, sets, costumes, and actors were amazing. The comedy from Genie kept the show fresh and moving. Subtle differences from the movie but the plot was the same nonetheless. The magic carpet ride is right up there with the boat ride from Phantom. Must see.

  • What an Amazing Show!

by FANSOVER50 on 4/15/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

I took my daughter who is a grown adult (28) who was a huge Aladdin fan when she was a child! It surely did not disappoint! Better than I had anticipated. Take Aladdin and a version of the Persian Rockettes, solid vocals, the wonderful tunes of the show and poof! You get a wonderful show that will delight school age children and grownups (children still at heart) for an evening of pure delight. The staging was wonderful, the cave set amazing and the recreation of the sidekicks for Aladdin and Jasmin (3 friends instead of an animal friend) was perfect! The actors were all wonderful! It was a special treat to see the original Jabar (movie voice) perform the role on Broadway! Needless to say, the genie (sorry Aladdin) stole the show but what an entertainer he is! Not a small feat at all with all the dancing and singing for such a big fellow who yet is so light on his feet! Wonderful, wonderful show!
