About

Disney’s ALADDIN is a dazzling and extravagant showcase of special effects — including a flying magic carpet during “A Whole New World” — as well as glittering-gold costumes and art deco-style sets that mirror the grandeur of a Busby Berkeley musical. One of Broadway’s most popular musical comedies, the show opened at the legendary New Amsterdam Theatre on March 20, 2014, and has since broken numerous house records (grossing over $500 million on Broadway). Eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken composed the show’s music. The lyrics are by two-time Oscar winner Howard Ashman (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid), as well as three-time Tony Award and three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice and six-time Tony Award nominee Chad Beguelin. The book is by Beguelin and direction/choreography is by two-time Tony Award-winner Casey Nicholaw.

A very nice show for all ages ! It has all the film songs and a new ones , as " Proud of your boy". The cast is also brilliant, all the actors are perfect in their own roles . Fab jokes and special effects as the costumes. The music was pretty great either :)

  • Aladdin was Excellent!

by BaltimoreMomof3 on 4/17/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Aladdin was an amazing show from start to finish. The performers were wonderful especially the Genie. The costumes were beautiful. The New Amsterdam Theater is a beautiful theater. This was the first Broadway show my 4 1/2 year has been to. He was on the edge of his seat the entire show. The rest of our party included children ages 7, 9 and 17 who all loved the show as well as all of the adults.

  • Fantastic show for children and adults

by TheBlasevick on 4/16/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

From the set to casting to singing and dancing, this play has one showstopper after another. It was hard for me to imagine how someone could possibly compare to Robin Williams' performance in the movie, but James Monroe Iglehart stole the show! So much fun.

  • Was ok

by cutepreppyguy on 4/16/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 2 out of 5

Thought coming from Disney this musical would be amazing such as Mary Poppins, Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, but seems like Disney didn't hit the mark this time. The sets in some scenes are a bit sparse and not elaborate enough, especially the parade scene. The songs are a bit underwhelming and singing could use some work, Aladdin has a great voice though, sounds very similar to the movie. The only show stopping moment was "Friend Like Me." "A Whole New World" with the flying carpet was cool, but something is missing...the characters don't seem to really connect and being on the carpet was a little too long... got a little boring. Overall, a good attempt, but wouldn't be something I would see again or really promote. Save your cash for a better show.

  • Can't get the experience out of my head!

by ChrisNY on 4/16/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Almost from the moment we arrived we were thrilled with our experience. I had ordered VIP tickets, which gave us a free drink and a souvenir photo along with immediate service for whatever we needed. The show was spectacular! The costumes amazing! When you read the playbill they tell you more than 1000 Swarovski crystals are sewn into the costumes for the biggest numbers. They imported fabric from something on the order of ten different countries. The actors couldn't have been better, with Aladdin himself being perfect for the role. Genie was hilarious. Jafar was the actor who did the original voice in the Aladdin movie. And we were just amazed... The set design, the special effects, the ensemble acts, the singing, the score from Alan Menken; it was one of the most memorable experiences I've ever had on Broadway. Bravo, Disney. Bravo, cast and crew!

The show was beautiful and funny. The actors, the play, the songs, the costumes, the stage decorations and setting were amazing.

  • Plenty of Disney magic

by Anonymous on 4/16/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

My grandsons, 5 and 9, loved it, especially the "magic"...sparkles in the air, flying carpet, quick costume changes, etc. the genie had a huge claque the day we saw it , with shrieks of delight erupting at his very first entrance. He was very good but that was a bit much. An enjoyable show which might move faster in the first third, but that's just me.

  • Almost perfect

by Saluta on 4/16/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

The first half of the show was a bit slow. In the opening number, there should have been more fanfare for Aladdin and Jasmine. Also, I didn't think there was much chemistry between Aladdin and Jasmine. Jasmine could have been more likable...cute and sassy instead of headstrong. The genie was great, but at times his super being appeared too winded. Dance numbers were fantastic! I did not like jafar's sidekick...too much screaming! A lot of the jokes were dated but in general the audience seemed entertained.

  • Great Fun----Aladdin!!!

  • Aladdin

by orsr on 4/16/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

I did not know what to expect, a play going from a cartoon to a live performance. I thought it was one of the best plays I have seen. All the performers especially the Genie were excellent singers and dancers. I am 64 but felt like a kid watching this play. There were many children there but it is also for adults too. I highly recommend Aladdin.

  • A Whole New World

by Anonymous on 4/16/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

One of the greatest musicals EVER. Additionally, this play is the only time I have seen a standing ovation twice during a production. The show is fabulous and utterly hilarious; "Friend Like Me" steals the show completely.

  • Genie was Awesome

by Theatretech on 4/16/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

The Genie character made the show - very talented.

  • Musical with pizzazz

by tennisnana on 4/16/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

I have seen 4 Disney Broadway Shows. Aladdin's plot line was the weakest of the 4, with the flashy musical numbers being the focal point. The music, choreography, singing are all worthy of Broadway. The genie is the star of the show, never disappointing in his presentation. The 13 year old with me said it was the best thing we did on her 3 day birthday trip to Manhattan.

  • best disney show yet, except for mary poppins

by pavlov47 on 4/16/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Have seen all the Disney shows. With possible exception of Mary Poppins, this is best in terms of story, talent, music, dancing. Granbdkids loved it

  • Wonderful what a choice for my daughter's 1st show

by librarychick on 4/16/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

I was looking for a show to take my 4 yrs old too and Disney was my first choice so we were thrilled when we heard Aladdin was coming soon. The minute tickets went on sale we purchased them and the show lived upto our hope and exceeded them. I wish the genie was blue but his show stopper was amazing and he was sweating so much the blue would've been gone lol. The show was wonderful and so many one liners for adults. A definite must see!

  • Aladdin - More Disney Magic

by WhaleWatcher on 4/16/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Most everyone has seen the cartoon movie, and many wondered how it would play out on stage. Well, that is where Disney's magic came in. The set flooring allowed for moments where you thought the genie was appearing out of nowhere. The music we all know was performed wonderfully, and the added new songs were very strong and fit in nicely to the original score. The actors were top notch with beautiful voices. This is a show for all ages and you will not be disappointed. Enjoy the magic!

  • Amazing Aladdin

What an amazing show got both kids and adults! We all enjoyed it so much. It was funny and clever. The Genie stole the show. So much fun. Definitely go see it.
