About

Disney’s ALADDIN is a dazzling and extravagant showcase of special effects — including a flying magic carpet during “A Whole New World” — as well as glittering-gold costumes and art deco-style sets that mirror the grandeur of a Busby Berkeley musical. One of Broadway’s most popular musical comedies, the show opened at the legendary New Amsterdam Theatre on March 20, 2014, and has since broken numerous house records (grossing over $500 million on Broadway). Eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken composed the show’s music. The lyrics are by two-time Oscar winner Howard Ashman (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid), as well as three-time Tony Award and three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice and six-time Tony Award nominee Chad Beguelin. The book is by Beguelin and direction/choreography is by two-time Tony Award-winner Casey Nicholaw.

  • Aladdin was incredible!

by smilie6 on 4/20/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

It was such a magical show. The singing, dancing and special effects were truly amazing. I have never enjoyed watching a production as much as this one. Although it was different from the movie version, I enjoyed it just as much. The main characters were perfectly cast. The ensemble also had many very strong actors. I loved the smooth movement of the magic carpet. It made it seems so realistic. The beautiful voices of the ensemble blended with the main characters expertly. What a fabulous show. I would see it several more times just to make sure I see all it offers to the audience. It is one show you should not miss. A show for all ages. I absolutely loved it!

  • Maybe they they should rethink

Aladdin lacks strong artistic content. Campy does not replace artistic content. The louder you tell a joke does not make it better. Do not just add songs make it good, add reality.

Aladdin was amazing. The show was visually stunning with great dancing, beautiful sets and wonderful costumes. The singing was terrific! The Genie totally stole the show- great voice and over-the-top funny! I totally recommend this show for all ages.

  • Aladdin was amazingly witty & entertaining for all

by pc67 on 4/20/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Choreography, costumes and cast were AWESOME! My children and neices "Night out" was terrific to this show, thank you for making it so memorable! Clapping and singing most of the time and still wondering how "The magic carpet" was pulled off seamlessly! All 6 of us were in awe!

  • Disney never disappoints!

Not only did my two granddaughters, ages 9 and 4, love the show, my daughter and I also thought it was amazing.

Shmaltzy, forced humor. No subtle wit as in original film. Genie was fantastic. Cave of wonders scene fun. Too few chorus to truly fill big scenes without rotating same crew with costume changes

Excellent - in every way. It was entertaining from the opening curtain until the curtain call. Genie made the show. All performers were excellent. And it definitely had the Disney magic working throughout!

We have seen all of the Disney on Broadway shows and I rank this one among our favorites. The scenery was magnificent - sparkles everywhere and the actors nailed their roles.

  • Good for families but room for improvement .

by Rsksinger on 4/19/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkRating: 3 out of 5

Show was good . Genie was amazing and he had great energy and was extremely talented. Aladdin was fantastic too , he has the most beautiful voice and he was a wonderful actor. Jasmine although beautiful was a good singer , but not as strong as Aladdin and Genie. We were all hoping that the magic carpet would have flown over the audience, and capture the moment. We also hoped that the characters would have used the aisles, when Prince Ali was being introduced that would have been neat , if he could have come down the aisles, with his entourage of people. It is however, a wonderful show to take families. It was done very well and it is not scary for the younger children. Jafer and Iago were perfect and funny. Overall I would recommend this show .
