  • Extraordinary vocals and sound mix!

by DPAC Regular on 12/20/21DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

Of the 26 plus years I have seen Theatre In The Park’s, A Christmas Carol; this year’s cast gave us the very best vocalists and balance of vocal parts that I ever recall. The quality of vocal pitch and mix with the orchestra was superb!!! It was the first year that I felt as though the cast was ALL equally strong and the show stood tall as “one show”. Nothing local about this production! We all know that Ira David Wood, whether III or IV, is the star of the show, however; this particular combination of cast supported Scrooge like never before in my opinion. Bravo! Bravo! I will begin saving now for our December 2022 tickets. Our 5 grandchildren voted unanimously for an ENCORE next year.

  • Not the classic

by Kel on 12/20/21DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 1 out of 5

Although the performers did very well, we did not enjoy this rendition of A Christmas Carol where it brought in topics of trump and vaccines into the classic tale. We also didn’t like the Elvis impersonation at the end. Ghost of Christmas present was incredible. We will not be back unless it’s the original classic .

  • Terrific show!

by Evie on 12/20/21DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

Thoroughly fun musical, replete with political & social jabs! Hilarious!

  • Awesome! Entertaining, outstanding cast!

by Peaches on 12/20/21DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first time attending The Christmas Carol. So glad I attended. Although it was more than the story, but added relevant issues today along with the true reason for the season. Those in attendance with me also thoroughly enjoyed the show and always DPAC is a "class" act!

  • Best Christmas Present

by BJ on 12/20/21DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

“A Christmas Carol” always puts me in the Christmas mood. It is thoroughly enjoyable. The acting is superb, DPAC offers excellent accommodations, and there is nothing more you could ask for! Next year be sure to see it!

  • 12/18 Show DPAC

    by P. H. on 12/19/21Rating: 5 out of 5

My wife and I first time seeing Ira David Wood III’s production of A Christmas Carol. We thoroughly enjoyed it. If you are sensitive to political and COVID jabs throughout the script, you are going to leave with hurt feelings. We thought it was great, entertaining and had us laughing throughout the production. Will definitely see this next year. I hope Mr. Wood’s son can deliver a great performance when he takes over as Scrooge. He has big shoes to fill.

  • Delightful Holiday favorite with a funny twist

by Fred P on 12/19/21DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

It is not the traditional rendition of this holiday favorite, but it is absolutely a blast. My family and I enjoyed it tremendously. I purchased the tickets as part of a Christmas present to my wife. I didn’t read the description at all and assumed it would be the usual. We were all pleased it was not. Great cast. Great fun.

  • Fabulous Show!

by MEREDITH on 12/19/21DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

This is my third time seeing this show over 20 years but first time bringing my teen children. We all loved it! Beautiful set and costumes, such amazing talent and so many laughs. Fabulous show!

  • It's was not as good as usual.. too much covid reference

by Repeat Visitor on 12/19/21DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 4 out of 5

I love this play, and see it every couple of years...and have for many, many years. I was excited to see it again this year.. especially with my dad passing this year, needed a little Christmas spirit. But I felt like the Christmas spirit was really taken out of it with Christmas future being all about Covid and the vaccine! ..Don't get me wrong, the covid jokes throughout the play were fine and funny.. but I think Christmas future being totally about Covid and the vaccine was a little too much and really took away from the play! Hopefully it will be back to Christmas spirit next year.

  • Jumping through hoops

by Lake Lady on 12/19/21DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 3 out of 5

The play was great but… I ordered tickets in September with no “rules “ stated. Then the end of November comes an email with all these rules, I.e., have to download the DPAC app because will only accept electronic tickets, have to show shot card or proof of negative Covid test. Proof of test results was very specific as to what would be acceptable. My husband is allergic to the vaccine and carries medical documentation that he is on a CDC approved alternative protocol which DPAC wouldn’t accept. We had to pay $140 for a documented test because he had no symptoms. Since the rules changed after we bought the tickets, we should have been given a full refund. What had started out as a nice Christmas evening out with friends became an unpleasant hoop jumping endeavor.

  • Awesome as always!!!

by Patti on 12/19/21DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

What a great evening!!! The cast was fabulous, as always. The young man who played Tiny Tim was soooo talented!!!! This year we splurged on front row seats. Best. Decision. Ever!!!

  • Outstanding Show

by Jane on 12/18/21DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

This was one of the best shows I have seen. The acting was phenomenal!! The updated COVID jokes were hilarious. Wonderful costumes and music. I'm so glad I went!

  • Christmas miss

    by J. S. on 12/18/21DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 1 out of 5

If you are hoping to go to the theater to escape the daily COVID numbers this is not the show. Immature jokes made this show frustrating and miss the mark for us. The long pauses to get the audience to respond to those jokes were torturous. Spending the entire first act on reasons to not like the lead character was unnecessarily long.

  • A favorite Christmas tradition!

by MKP on 12/18/21DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

I fell in love with A Christmas Carol about 8 years ago and it always gets me in the Christmas spirit every year! This was the first time I’ve seen the son play lead. His performance grew on me as the night went, but I still LOVE Ira David Wood 3’s timing and facial expressions. For me, he will always be Scrooge! I must admit I missed him! The play felt slightly rushed this year, but it was still very good.

  • I love this play! It's really a great performance!

by Kelly on 12/15/21Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

I haven't seen this performance in several years and decided to take my teenage nephew this year. We weren't disappointed! It is such fun and magical performance! I can't imagine watching this show without Ira David Wood. It such a great tradition!

  • Enchanting, but DEC could’ve been more on point

by Leilani on 12/15/21Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - RaleighRating: 4 out of 5

The show, like every year, was amazing. Amazing actors, amazing audience, great jokes- my aunt and I thoroughly enjoyed watching the show. It reminded us of how enjoyable Christmas was before the pandemic & how unified we felt. However, the staff for Duke Energy Center was not helpful at all. I pre-purchased seats, and although I couldn’t afford handicapped seats, I made sure to buy seats close to the exit so my aunt wouldn’t have to walk. The lady ushered us ALL the way down the stairs to another man who told us to go ALL the way back up the stairs to ask another man where to go. Finally, we found our seats- only to find that someone was sitting in them. At this point, my aunt had sat down in a different, empty section- she couldn’t walk anymore. The show had already started and it was too dark to navigate. The original lady I asked had an attitude as I told her that our seats were occupied, so I just sat in the empty section. The seats were farther than what I had paid for and the staff was incredibly rude and unprofessional. Next year I’ll be seeing A Christmas Carol in Durham- never going to Duke Energy Center after this fiasco.

  • Excellent holiday show!

by Shannon D. on 12/15/21Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

We have a wonderful time, as always. This show changes slightly each year and you rrally jusy cannot grt enough of Scrooge. The story is timeless and the comedy is very relevant. We will return again in 2022.

  • Always Amazing

I have been seeing A Christmas Carol since the late 70s. It still is so wonderful and gets me in the Christmas spirit every year. Now sharing with my grandson.

  • We have the Christmas Spirit

by Mike on 12/15/21Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

It was great to have Christmas Carol back on stage live. The production was as great as it has been, We have been attending over 25 years and it has been great every time. Yes, the virtual performance last year was different, but we still finished with the Christmas spirit. Keep up the great work!! Merry Christmas.
