  • A Christmas Carol is a MUST!

by Rich and Tracie on 12/29/21Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

What a wonderful way to bring in the Christmas Season! We were devastated when the 2020 performance was cancelled due to COVID. This year’s performance was that much more special. Funny, heartwarming. The actors are like family. We drive from Charlotte and make a weekend around the show. Incredibly special!

Loved it, I have been going for decades! So very happy to have it back. Everyone did an amazing job! It is not Christmas until I see this show!

  • Great show!

First time seeing it at DPAC. Great experience. Fits well in this theater vs Raleigh. Just a fantastic tradition of my holiday!

  • Epstein on my mind

by The Christmas Angel on 12/23/21DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 3 out of 5

Laura looked like she was about 13 years old. Young Ebenezer looked liked he was in his mid-twenties. The was problematic in our family since we are all following the Ghislaine Maxwell/Epstein trial. Hopefully this obvious mismatch was an oversight but you folks should be mindful of the pedophilia aspect of your production.

  • A Christmas Carol

Absolutely one of the best shows ever- funny, entertaining, yet brings the true meaning of Christmas and Peace for all!

  • Beautiful show. Lovely venue.

by Stephanie on 12/22/21DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

I alternated between laughter & sentimental tears. This annual event never gets old & never disappoints. Next year, I’m buying tickets not just for us as a couple, but for my entire family. It should be a shared experience.

  • Never fails to disappoint

by Cat on 12/22/21DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

It was great to get back to dpac. And “a Christmas carol” was in rare form adapting today’s issues into the play. You’d never think the play could be a comedy and it’s a delightful surprise. My family makes it an event by enjoying brunch before the final matinee on Sunday. There was only one small issue with the tickets. I had to “pick the tickets up” at will call and then they texted them to me. We had to wait in a long line and then they just sent them? Why couldn’t they have delivered it to my phone in the first place like it’s been done in the past. Unnecessary step to me.

  • Amazing as always

by Lizzyp73 on 12/22/21DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

The best adaptation ever! Every season it changes a little with puns and jokes about what happened over that year. The feeling of nostalgia and laughter is what truly means Christmas is here!

  • Absolutely delightful!!

by Lynn on 12/22/21DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

This is the first time I've seen A Christmas Carol with Ira David Wood. What a wonderful Christmas event! It was the perfect antidote to a hectic, crazy holiday. Wonderful original songs, tap dancing and ballet, jokes, political humor, beautiful costumes, and sets. What more could you ask for? A Christmas Carol is the best Christmas program I've ever seen! It was perfect!! Thanks to Mr. Wood and the cast and crew! This musical is definitely one of the very best things in Raleigh!

by Xan on 12/21/21DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

This show was amazing! It puts you in the Christmas spirit! The venue and staff were excellent! I took my mom who is handicapped and she had too rate service!

  • It was a first viewing for my granddaughter!

by Graydog on 12/21/21DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

She was entranced from start to finish, loved the music and actually "got" the CoVid jokes and dialogue. She's a repeat fan for sure, one that will return again and again.

  • Very original but slightly long

by Lucy S on 12/21/21DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 3 out of 5

Went to see A Christmas Carol at DPAC this past weekend. It was not what I expected at all. It was very original and humorous. I thought Act 2 was a little long, however, but I did enjoy the humor throughout the entire of the performance and the COVID references were very funny. I loved that the finale focused on the true meaning of Christmas, and I thought they did a great job of integrating the most meaningful Christmas carols into the finale. I thought the vocals were great, though some words were hard to hear over the pit. I thought the pit was great!

  • Positive other than being masked

by Big Daddy on 12/21/21DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

Wonderful show. My only complaint is having to wear those mask even though we’ve been vaccinated and everyone either has been tested negative or vaccinated to enter. The humor and sarcasm makes the show.

  • Whiplash

by girlloves2read on 12/21/21DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 1 out of 5

This was an extremely disappointing event. I walked away with whiplash as the production switched back and forth from a Christmas play to standup comedy. There was no continuity of purpose and the storytelling was horrible. The pace was slow, the jokes were in poor taste, and Scrooge kept dropping his British accent in favor of a Southern accent. It is a shame, because the set, lighting, and costuming were beautiful. I would not recommend this production.

  • Great Show

by Lori D on 12/21/21DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 3 out of 5

The show is amazing. Really put me in the Christmas spirit. The acting was unreal. I gave three stars because they truly could’ve left politics out of it. No matter what side you’re on. I get adding some Covid things in there because it is a sign of our times (which was funny) but the politics of it all and the pushing of the vaccinations was a little bit much. This is coming from someone who is vaccinated.

  • Great show

Outstanding performance. We try to go every year. So glad to be back at DPAC! Love that theater.
