  • Christmas Carol was fantastic!

by SandraE on 12/15/10Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed this year's performance. When we first heard that Ira David Wood III wasn't going to be in the play, we were a bit concerned. But nothing to worry about. The son did a fabulous job. We took friends with us who recently moved from New York and used to attending Broadway shows. They were very impressed. A must for a yearly tradition for any family. Thanks for blessing us again!

  • TIP: A Christmas Carol - Disappointing

by rbenbar on 12/15/10Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - RaleighRating: 2 out of 5

I lived in Raleigh until 1969-95. I attended this production almost every year. This is my first since 1994 and I brought my entire family of 8 people this year from over 150 miles away. I was very disappointed in the production and especially the acoustics. We have seats in Section U (upper right). We could see the stage perfectly but could understand almost nothing. But because 4 of us were familiar with the production and could sing every song from memory we were fine. The other 4 )2 of my grandsons) could not understand any words. The actors spoke to rapidly and the sound system was very poor from where we sat. At $49+ per ticket, my Christmas present to my family was very disappointing.

  • Xmas Carol for the young

by KELITA on 12/15/10Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

Fabulous! My grandchildren, 6 & 7 loved it! They were not restless or bored and they want to see it again next year. I've seen it 4 or 5 times and would go again. Full of good acting, singing and wonderful Xmas spirit. Kudos and thanks to both Ira Davids and Rachel Wood!

  • Ira David Wood IV did the III PROUD!

by merathon on 12/15/10Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

A Christmas Carol was AMAZING! I saw the production 3 years ago when Ira David Wood III acted as Scrooge and was amazed by his performance. I didn't think it could possibly be as good a show without him, but I was wrong! His son did a wonderful job as Scrooge, very talented actor, singer, dancer!! He sounded just like his dad! The rest of the cast was fantastic as well...extremely entertaining for people of ALL ages! I can't wait to go again next year! :)

IRA DAVID WOOD IV WAS AWESOME, JUST AS GOOD AS HIS DAD. THIS SHOW IS WONDERFUL EACH AND EVERY YEAR AND REALLY GETS YOU INTO THE XMAS SPIRIT!

Once again, Theater in the Park out did themselves! Our family has been attending this play off and on for thirty years, and we were not disappointed!! Ira David Wood IV's performance was outstanding - he stepped into his father's shoes and they fit!!! His energy, his gestures - even his voice were almost indistinguishable from his dad's. This year we included our 5 and 7 year old granddaughters, and they were entranced throughout the entire play!! Kudos and Merry Christmas!!

I am hooked on going to see the play every year. I have been a big fan of both Ira and David Wood. Ira was wonderful as Scrooge, as with all his various part in the play in the past. The show was terrific as always. The show can't help but put you in the best Christmas spirit.

David Ira Wood, IV was spectactular in the role made famous by his father. Always a great, heart-warming show and this year was no different. A Raleigh tradition that gets better every year!

  • A Christmas Carol

by Elizelle on 12/14/10Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

Ira David Wood IV was brilliant as Scrooge. We missed Ira David Wood III, but he can feel good knowing he has such a talented son who can step in at the last minute and do such an amazing job. We will definitely be back again next year to see what the Raleigh Woods have in store. : ) E

  • A Christmas Carol - We go every year!

by Stellaaa on 12/14/10Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - RaleighRating: 4 out of 5

So, this was our 8th year going to this show. We truly love it every year. However, this was the first year would say it was 'good', not 'great'. This is because my husband and I did not think they incorporated enough current events jokes into the play. This is the main reason we go every year - the current events jokes are so great every year. They have us doubled over in our seats at times. But this year they really missed the mark. I hope they do a better job next year.

It was a great show. This is my first time seeing it, will definitely go back.

  • Christmas Carol was forgettable

by ZAK2 on 12/14/10Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - RaleighRating: 2 out of 5

I saw this play years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it, however, this time around was a huge disappointment. The first half didn't seem to connect well with the 2nd half. In fact later we couldn'teven remember what happened in the 1st half of the program. Also, the volume was turned up WAY too loud...everyone around was complaining about it. The humorous sections weren't all that amusing. We regretted making the effort to drive 60 miles on a bad weather day to see this program.

  • A Chistmas Carol was exceptional!!!

A Christmas Carol has become a yearly tradition for me and my husband. When we heard about IDW III surgery we wondered if the "show would go on" and it did, thanks to the exceptional job of IDW IV!!!!!!!!!!! We were not disappointed at all......Great show as usual!!!

  • A Great Tradition

by RileyGunter on 12/13/10Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

For 7+ years this awesome production came to Columbia, SC. My children were 6 -12. We made it the beginning of our Christmas. It stopped, they grew up, but for this past Sat. evening, time went back. My son, now 23 years old and I attended in Raleigh and it was like we had never missed it! Ira IV was totally awesome, so glad Dad will be back next year. This is MY family's Chrisrmas!

We traveled from Charlotte for the second year in a row and weren't disappointed. Ira David Wood IIV gave an unforgetable performance. I know his family is proud. Best wishes and a speedy recovery to Ira David Wood III.

  • Smart Alek Version!!!!

by JVSSSSS on 12/13/10Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - RaleighRating: 2 out of 5

BLUF, don't see this version of "A Christmas Carol" if you are looking to see a more traditional version. This version was like an overlong "Saturday Night Live" skit, with Scroog playing the role of a smart ass. The first half was nearly unbearable unless you like wise cracks and "asides". Lots of references to You Tube, Airport TSA, and Facebook, even though it still takes place in 1800's England. The second half was better, but they still cared more about being funny than telling the story. It would have been nice if they had warned people. Still, it was good light hearted entertainment, but I'm not sure I would have paid 89 bucks, plus fees, if I had known what I was going to get!

  • Unforgettable Production!!

by worldwidetravelinggirl on 12/13/10Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

I had never been to see "Theatre in The Park's: A Christmas Carol", and I am so sad that I had waited this long. Comedy, magic and an amazing performance. I now understand why it has an almost "cult" following. Patrons return year after year to hear the updated jokes and the exciting performance of Ebeneezer Scrooge and the entire cast. Definitely a Christmas tradition to start in my family, and hopefully yours too!!

  • Christmas Carol was a farce

by momtotwoboys on 12/13/10Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - RaleighRating: 1 out of 5

I was so disappointed with A Christmas Carol! I treated my sister, niece and mother to the play and it was a total waste of money. It should have been advertised as a Saturday Night Live version of the story. I was expecting the traditional Christmas Carol and it was a comedic version instead. Do not waste your money!

  • Laura was beautiful

by PamelaSC on 12/13/10Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

The enitre show was totally amazing. This was our first time but will definately go again next year. The cast was out of this world. Forgot I was in Raleigh and not on Broadway. Scrooge was spectacular. We especially enjoyed the ballet scene with Laura and young Scrooge. Laura is a beautiful girl and obviously has had tremendous training for her young age. She performed with such grace and control.
