  • This was horrible

by skyeNC on 12/10/11Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - RaleighRating: 1 out of 5

This was the poorest excuse of a play I've ever seen. The title is confusing, and should be changed. Charles Dickens would roll over in his grave to see how his classic book has been turned into a live version of "family guy." What do people see in this? The main character "Scrooge" kept going in and out of character, making bad jokes about various politicians. If I had of known what this play was about, I would have saved my money and stayed home. My bad for not looking at reviews and researching before I bought great seats!

  • Fantastic Production

by Torto on 12/10/11Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

What an amazing and entertaining play. Cleverly funny and original NY production quality show with an equally impressive cast. I was wowed beyond expectation, even having read previous reviews.

  • It is BROADWAY MATERIAL.

    by Tria62 on 12/9/11Progress Energy Center - RaleighRating: 4 out of 5

The story and cast make this unforgettable. Although the dialogue may change from year to year and the humor keeps it from getting stale.....the cast has taken all of it to the next level. They enjoy what they are doing and it shows.......they make this truly a grand way to start the season. The tickets are pricey, but it is still a wonderful afternoon or evening for family or with friends.

I have never seen this before. I am so sorry I have missed seeing it over the years as this was one of the best plays I have ever seen.

  • A Christmas Carol

by cetteamie on 12/18/10Progress Energy Center - RaleighRating: 1 out of 5

We made the awful mistake of actually thinking that this was going to be a traditional take on Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol." OH we were so wrong. We took our children to this production thinking it would be a great family event, WRONG! It turned out to be a "comic"/musical farce that was so over the top and ridiculous, that we were tempted to walk out before the 1st act was even over. We did indeed leave 45 minutes early. On top of the constant jokes intended to go over the heads over younger audience members (viagra jokes not excluded), much of the antics were not even remotely related to anything having to do with what was going on in the play. The fact that this has such good reviews completely perplexes me and sadly shows the level of intellect that our society has sunken to. The promoters have been extremely deceptive in the marketing of this and it should be openly advertised as a "comedy farce" and not as simply "A Christmas Carol" which seems to be a pretty straight forward description. Don't waste your money as we did, please!!

  • Loved it!!!!

by Lynne8 on 12/18/10Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

I go to to see the Christmas Scrooge by David Ira Wood III every year. This year David Ira Wood IV stood in for his father as Scrooge and did a fantastic job. David IV did not miss a line and did his father proud. I love the colorful costumes the talent is always awesome of singing and dancing. It is GREAT this play includes prayer and recognizes the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus. The comedy and policitcal satire really makes the show pop!! Of course I absolutely love ELVIS. The orchestra is lively and is right on the beat with sound effects in the story. The magic act is entertaining and I love the magic words which make the dollar disappear! I love this play and it always gets me in the MERRY CHRISTMAS mood.

  • A Christmas Carol was a Blast

by lcfzr2 on 12/17/10Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

Really missed our original scrooge but Ira Wood Jr. did an outstanding job filling in. Everything was as colorful as always, the singing and dancing outstanding. I recommend this show to anyone. We even were treated to a new few jokes during the show which seems to be David Ira Woods trademark. I went to this show for the first time 13 years ago being drug all the way saying a musical, awww come on. I have since been every year and has become a tradition in our family. Cannot wait to take my little one once he reaches the age he will actually sit still.

  • Christmas Carol

Wonderful production of the Christmas Carol. We truly couldn't see how Ira David Wood IV could pull off his dad's role of 35 year, however he did a fantastic job! He was amazing! The choreography was more detailed this year with more cast members on the stage, which made for a beautiful production. Bravo to everyone, particularly Ira, for making a magical night!

My mom, sisters, two nieces, and I went to the show for the very first time. We have all agreed that this will be a new family tradition for each and every Christmas season. We even plan to get the guys to go next time!

  • Ira IV or Ira III - only the makeup artist knew!

by TeamIRAIV on 12/16/10Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

Theatre in the Park's A Christmas Carol was presented for the 36th year this holiday season and for the first time in 36 years the role of Ebenezer Scrooge was played by someone other than Ira David Wood III. The role was played by Ira David Wood IV, who appeared to easily step into the role of his father after IDW III had emergency heart surgery. But only someone with amazing talent could step into the shoes of a Raleigh icon and do so without fear or intimidation, and Ira David Wood IV demonstrated that he has that amazing talent. The show was beautifully performed and fully appreciated by the audience who were thrilled to see IDW III stroll across the stage in one scene. How proud IDW III must be to know his show could go on and that his loyal fans supported his son who never once let them down. We will welcome back IDW III in 2011, but we are also confident in knowing that if for some reason he cannot perform, his legacy will continue.

  • A Christmas Carol was hilarious!

by raleighevent on 12/16/10Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

Since moving to this area 7 years ago, we have made this a family holiday tradition. My daughters were disappointed to hear that David Woods III would not be 'Scrooge'. But the show must go on. After the performance they talked about how impressed they were with David Woods IV performance. We were glad to see DW III was doing so well. We really enjoyed the show, the costumes, the performers, the energy and commeraderie were exceptional as always. This is a fantastic production, and I am so glad that it receives the recognition it deserves.

This was our second year to attend A Christmas Carol... at first we were disappointed that Ira David Wood III would not be able to perform, but we were not disappointed at all with Ira David Wood IV, Well done!

  • Christmas Carol

by Carno on 12/15/10Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - RaleighRating: 4 out of 5

Enjoyed the performance very much. Ira David IV filled his Dad's shoes quite nicely. A couple of off key moments but most of the time one forgot it wasn't IDW III up on the stage. Well done!
