  • A Christmas Carol was exceptional

by Goober14 on 12/16/11Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first production of any type and to be honest I was amazed. I thought "oh no my wife is dragging me to a play. Boring!" But to my amazement I was honestly entertained and captivated by the production and the meaning of the story. Thank you to my dear sweet wife for giving me a wonderful Christmas present.

A Christmas Carol was an amazing night of laughter, jaw dropping beauty, touching sentiment, and current humorous quips. The singing was something so beautiful it was mind boggling to think that it was original, created by Raleigh's Scrooge. I am so glad we went! WOW !!!

FINALLY, after having lived in the Raleigh area a long time, we went to see "a Christmas Carol! My whole family LOVED it. We'll go back again next year.

We thought it was great. We would see it every year if it wasn't 75 miles away. The cast is very talented and we enjoyed every moment

  • Energetic and Hilarious "A Christmas Carol"

by AnnPark on 12/16/11Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

My daughter and I have been going to see "A Christmas Carol" for about a decade, and have loved each year's show. This year by far, is our favorite. Ira David Wood III, despite serious health issues, has a new and higher spring in his step that has also energized the entire production. My daughter and I laughed tons during the entire show. Lots of new jokes, and slight modifications in the set/presentation (the Crachit's came out of their house to "an extreme makeover" (can't remember the line exactly). The most touching part was when an enlightened Scrooge (IDWIII) said to the Lamplighter (IDWIV), "about last year...." The most hilarious scene being when IDWIII is on the ground on his back and his son comes back and asks, "Are you really OK Dad?" Not only was Scrooge slimmer, but Jacob Marley had significantly trimmed down as well, especially obvious in his face. Glad to see the cast is taking care of themselves! We can't wait to go next year!

  • Another great year for A Christmas Carol!!!!!

by WakeCountyGirl on 12/14/11Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

Once again, Ira David Wood has managed to make me laugh and cry at the same time. For the last 15 years, our family have attended the Sunday matinee of A Christmas Carol. At that time, we had one child but have since had another child. This tradition is a wonderful family activity that we all look forward to attending. David Ira Wood are both incredible actors. I look forward to watching this play for years to come

  • The start of a Christmas tradition for my family!!

by sureimnotsure on 12/14/11Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

I got these tickets for my mother and brother, who love 'A Christmas Carol' in any form and kept saying how much they wanted to see Ira David Wood. I was pretty ho hum about the whole thing ... how many times do I have to see the same play with different actors? I was PLEASANTLY surprised, however, at how much I enjoyed it! Ira David Wood and cast are fantastic! The show was witty, current, and an all around great time. You can really tell the actors are having fun, and that attitude spreads throughout the theater. There are a few slow scenes, but they're necessary for the story line. I would HIGHLY recommend this play to anyone, even the Scrooges in your life! Tickets are somewhat pricey, but worth it, as I'll be making an effort to go next year, and they year after, and the year after that ....

  • Local Raleigh "Christmas Carol" - Fun and Entertai

by OldJSR on 12/13/11Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

Ira David Wood has done it again! The adaptation of the Christmas Carol to a blend of Charles Dickens and Raleigh humor brings chuckles and an occasional sentimental tear. Although colored with some local NC and Raleigh humor, the production is quite delightful and would be entertaining even to those not familiar with some of the specific Raleigh area spoofs.

  • Brilliant !

Once again a great show. More energy than past years but noticed a lot of cast changes. Still love it even after going year after year. A couple of new tricks up their sleeves this year. I swear I thought the Target lady was the actual lady out of the commercial.

  • Entertaining

Although I grew up in the Triangle, this is my first time seeing this play. It was campy, over the top and threw in a lot of pop culture and local events. Very entertaining and amusing. I laughed out loud quite a few times. It was wonderful to see David Ira Wood in this role. The joy he gets from being on the stage is obvious.

With characters having strong southern actors, it was hard to get into the theme of the night.

  • A Christmas Carol - always a holiday favorite

by doglovingirl on 12/13/11Progress Energy Center Raleigh Memorial Auditorium - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

What would Christmas in Raleigh be without Ira David Wood III's A Christmas Carol? I'm so glad he came through his surgery and is back in his usual rare form as Scrooge. His son did a pretty darn good job last year, substituting for him, and was a wonderful lamplighter this year --- someday, he'll be as good as his dad. Ira David Wood III is Raleigh's treasure and A Christmas Carol is his gift to all of us at this time of year. I laugh and cry and laugh some more and walk out always feeling like it's finally "Christmas time". I have a family tradition of taking someone each year who has not seen the show before, and most of these folks, come back again. This was the 15th year I have seen this show - and I hope to see it again for another 15 years. God bless Ira David Wood III and all his family and the company of A Christmas Carol for giving us this wonderful Christmas present each year.

I think the show gets better every year. Ira David Wood is absolutely brilliant and I love all the local comedy thrown in
