Just got home from seeing "Christmas Carol", and too be honest....I can't really say that I loved it. Maybe, because, I am so used to shelling out money to see the touring Broadway shows, that my expectations are somewhat biased and high standard. Honestly, I can not see how "critically acclaimed" this show was on touring the UK/France, and the review that said this show could be a hit on the "West-End".......is wrong. This show has some tweeking that needs to be done, for it to be in that category. So, when all is said and done...what do we have? We have a local production, of a well-known classic. I can definitely understand the idea to incorporate modern innuendos, slang and some farce, to make the show more marketable and approachable to many different age groups. This is where the show misses the mark....it's trying to be too many things at one time. Many of the jokes seemed to be force-fed, and there were a few times, that could be described as "cringe-worthy". The songs are weak, and the second act, seemed to fly by..whereas the first act seemed to drag on. More effort should be taken by the production designers to , enhance the second act; especially the scenes with the 3 ghosts. The lamplighter/narrator, was honestly the best actor in the company, All in all, it was okay...but, I doubt I will go again.
