Vancouver Canucks History

The Vancouver Canucks started play in 1970, entering the league along with the Buffalo Sabres. Vancouver has been to the Stanley Cup Final on three occasions, though they lost to the New York Islanders in 1982, the New York Rangers in 1994 and the Boston Bruins in 2011.

Despite humble beginnings, the Canucks continued to develop. With the arrival of three key players — Captain Trevor Linden, netminder Kirk McLean, and "the Russian Rocket" Pavel Bure, the Canucks had a winning Playoff run season — making it to the 1994 finals.

The Canucks continued to acquire superstars like Alexander Mogilny and Markus Näslund, and while the following years meant a series of losses, it allowed for the team to draft Henrik and Daniel Sedin, who would go on to lead the Canucks to Presidents' Trophies in back-to-back seasons in 2010-11 and 2011-12, as well as their finals appearance in 2011.

Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena

The Vancouver Canucks play their home games at the 475,000-square foot Rogers Arena, which also played host to the 2010 Winter Olympic Games where Sidney Crosby scored the “Golden Goal.” A staple of downtown Vancouver, the Canucks played their first game at the arena on October 9, 1995. Other notable events that have taken place at the arena include the 1998 NHL All-Star Game, 2019 NHL Entry Draft, and in October 2002 when Queen Elizabeth II dropped the ceremonial first puck during an NHL exhibition game between the Canucks and San Jose Sharks. Additionally, the arena played host to Games 1, 2, 5, and 7 of the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals.

    AMAZING Experience!

by ALJC on 10/4/23Rogers Arena - Vancouver

We got lower bow tickets to watch a pre-season game with our kids. This was my son's (8) 3rd game and my daughter (5) first game. They had an amazing time. Mobile tickets are easy to use, the entrance for the event was very streamlined. A bit of a line up to buy food, but nothing more than expected. The kids had a good time at the guest centre and at the kids area too. All employees with whom we have interacted were friendly and helpful. Thank you for the amazing experience!

Great venue to watch a hockey game.

by GrayStation on 4/12/23Rogers Arena - Vancouver

Great venue. Easy entry and exit to the facility. The before game and in-game promotions with video and graphics was great. The venue also provides a great selection of food and drinks. I'd return for sure. And the game was a blast!

Always fun, but a little loud

by CanadianKangaroo on 3/26/23Rogers Arena - Vancouver

I always have a good time at sporting events, and I think the Canucks have done better at entertainment value and engaging the kids and younger age. However I feel like the music and sound system volume has gone way up from previous years, and you can’t talk to the people beside you without yelling at them now when music is playing

    Canucks v Nashville 3-6-23

by Paul on 3/15/23Rogers Arena - Vancouver

First time in Rogers Arena in 13 years. Enjoyed the improvements. The Canucks won, but note that many feel they should be tanking to improve draft position. My issue… as a bigger guy, I felt compelled to buy a club seat. I’ve paid more elsewhere (to my surprise), but those seats would be wide enough without the drink holders. I’d prefer Ticketmaster AND the team website have better information on width of seats and whether (using American terms) ADA seats is an option for me.

    ON POINT

by GILLY on 3/7/23Rogers Arena - Vancouver

It started out fairly even Canucks close to the bottom Leafs close to the top. Canucks out hit them throughout and seemed to cover defensively very well blocking and moving leafs to the side Demko played very well and Joshua as well hard hitting. The 2 shorthanded goals in second period just flattened the Leafs .Overall an outstanding game for Canucks now if they can keep the momentum going forward and not trade off everyone they could be a force to reckon with next year.

The game was fun. Crazy P grew on me. The arena was a little old, but it was nice. Can't go wrong going to a hockey game.

They should tank the rest of the season and hope fot top dra

by Rsha on 1/21/23Rogers Arena - Vancouver

They should tank the rest of the season and hope for first choice in the draft. Boudreau is a good coach but has been saddled with 30 years of poor drafting and poor management.

    A great evening

by Rozzy on 1/21/23Rogers Arena - Vancouver

5 of us came to watch a match we knew was in favour of the opposing team (yes our team was outplayed and lost); nevertheless, we had a really good evening...why? The before and during optics were very, very good, and each intermission had some good entertainment. The memorial to Gina Odjick and all the little things that were done in his memory were respectful, AND we got to see Steve Stamkos get his 500th career goal. We even saw someone win a car by shooting the puck through the 5 hole (it's only ever happened twice!). Even though the last two things could not have been pre planned, they contributed to a very entertaining evening.

    Groundhog Day all over again

by bd on 1/21/23Rogers Arena - Vancouver

For all the hype and show biz shine it’s still the same old bottom feeding hockey we’ve seen for a decade. Three GMs, four coaches, numerous players, one owner and the same old results. Please Ryan Reynolds, buy the Canucks.

Boys In-Law night at the hockey game!

by Craiger on 12/30/22Rogers Arena - Vancouver

'Nucks beat Sharks, so its all good right?! Good pre-game instructions prior to the game with two of us old-timers having mobility issues. Section 108 in Club Section was very close to the elevator which is right at Gate 16 which is 100 yards from good parking in lot 138 if you are early. Though we beat everyone to the restaurant area it still takes the noodle kitchen too long to get an order out, some weird Nanny state hard liquor laws, great in seat service. (tight squeeze for big people) I would recommend ear buds for any serious fan, most conversations, which never stop, are about everything but hockey. Still an 8 out of 10 experience!

Rogers Arena is an excellent venue and an enjoyable experience. $23.00 for a beer is beyond expensive though
