About

KIMBRA IN CONCERT:

Aussie songstress Kimbra first rose to fame thanks to her collaboration on Gotye's "Somebody That I Used To Know", but lately it's her solo act that's earning attention. Her perfect mix of soulful pop, jazz, and dance music gets concertgoers tearing up the floor all night. Known for her eccentric stagewear, powerful vocal range, and expert use of looping effects, Kimbra never fails to wow with her infectious energy and phenomenal performances of originals such as "Settle Down" and "Plain Gold Ring".

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Kimbra got her start in music at the age of 12 when she learned to play guitar and sang in her school choir. Influenced by Michael Jackson, Imogen Heap, and Stevie Wonder, Kimbra began experimenting with different genres and eventually arrived at her soul-tinged dance-pop sound. After winning a video contest in 2008, she attracted attention from label exec Mark Richardson who saw her immense talent and signed her later that year. She released her debut single "Settle Down" two years later, which landed a Top 40 spot on the New Zealand charts and put her on the map as a hot artist on the rise. She collaborated with Gotye on his 2011 single "Somebody That I Used To Know" -- a worldwide smash hit that topped the charts in 26 countries,  earned the duo two Grammy Awards, and launched the pair to stardom overnight. Since then she's released her 2011 critically acclaimed full-length Vows and toured alongside Foster the People and the Kooks. On tour Kimbra sings tracks from her 2014 album The Golden Echo among older fan favorites and delivers one exciting performance after another.

by Mingo City on 2/15/239:30 CLUB - Washington

Kimbra's skill performing live is as sharp as it's ever been. The messages, and stories she has to convey are illuminating, and relevant. It was an extreme pleasure to be in the same room as this magnificent Talent for the evening.

    Kimbra was Great

by MarkorMike on 4/14/15The Fillmore - San Francisco

Kimbra wore two costumes. A MuMu with Art Deco style print and a Chrome piece bodice and tutu. Her beautiful skin made the revealing Chrome dress captivating. He voice was overshadowed early in the set by the Base & Drums. I think the bass notes were from a keyboard, since I didn't see anyone playing a bass guitar at the time. The fixed that by the third song an I was loving it. Kimbra has terrific stage presence and is great with the crowd. Many songs were sung by the crowd as well and I think she enjoyed that. I sang along to Settle Down and Two Way Street.

    Kimbras band was awful

by Martynts on 4/14/15The Fillmore - San Francisco

Kimbra is a great singer. The band and sound people behind her were terrible last Saturday night. They drowned out her voice, filled the music with stupid electronic noises and had the drum kit miked as if it were in a stadium. We left after 6 songs as it didn't get better. Lots of others around us left also. Very disappointing and sad to see such a great artist being ruined. Luckily the opening act Micky Ecko was superb backed by outstanding musicians who had the sound just right. What a fabulous singer he is and the drummer backing him had fabulous dynamics. The contrast between his superb show and the awful one by Kimbra only showed how bad her people were.

    Kimbra is a queen

by Anonymous on 11/16/14Brighton Music Hall - Boston

Kimbra is such an amazing performer! In such a small venue, the concert felt very intimate and all inclusive. The opener had a cool vibe but was a little stiff. Would definitely see her again.

    Inexplicably Amazing Performance

by rchllx on 11/13/14Brighton Music Hall - Boston

Wow. Just wow. I barely have words to describe how incredible Kimbra's performance was. Her band was on point, and every note that exited her mouth was pitch perfect. The show was energetic and captivating, and incredibly emotional. Her live show is even better than her recordings, and I was left speechless by the end. Definitely recommend

Kimbra: Top notch, uber-talented, and great live

by Elysia99 on 11/12/14Brighton Music Hall - Boston

An amazing artist who walks her own path, and delivers a show filled with great songs, energetic, spirited performances and a supremely talented, tight band. Kimbra was fabulous on her last tour in the US, but this show surpasses it--every song was delivered with grit and energy and spectacular musicianship. That she is not a household name is a crime, in my opinion. Then again, she is not a I-V-vi-IV pop princess--her songs are far more sophisticated, challenging and exciting than the standard fare, and her live performances deliver a fun, powerful knock-out punch. Highly--HIGHLY recommended!

Sound level so loud could not here Kimbra's vocals

by BeeLoverVT on 11/12/14Brighton Music Hall - Boston

Brighton Music Hall was Not the venue you would expect Kimbra would book. There is NO seating! The sound system was so loud the bass was giving my heart a cardio workout with every beat of the bass drum. I am not kidding. Completely drowned out Kimbra's AMAZING VOCALS.!!

    Kimbra was forgettable...

by bidonx79 on 11/10/14Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

The opener Empress Of was awesome...Kimbra was ehhh...her voice is phenomenal...stage presence was OK but her 2nd album's material is average at best...the few songs she played off her 1st album were the highlights of the night...Settle Down sounded even better live...I guess this is just personal preference about the music...she was a good performer otherwise..I wouldn't go see her again...the tickets were free to begin with so not really complaining
