About

KIMBRA IN CONCERT:

Aussie songstress Kimbra first rose to fame thanks to her collaboration on Gotye's "Somebody That I Used To Know", but lately it's her solo act that's earning attention. Her perfect mix of soulful pop, jazz, and dance music gets concertgoers tearing up the floor all night. Known for her eccentric stagewear, powerful vocal range, and expert use of looping effects, Kimbra never fails to wow with her infectious energy and phenomenal performances of originals such as "Settle Down" and "Plain Gold Ring".

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Kimbra got her start in music at the age of 12 when she learned to play guitar and sang in her school choir. Influenced by Michael Jackson, Imogen Heap, and Stevie Wonder, Kimbra began experimenting with different genres and eventually arrived at her soul-tinged dance-pop sound. After winning a video contest in 2008, she attracted attention from label exec Mark Richardson who saw her immense talent and signed her later that year. She released her debut single "Settle Down" two years later, which landed a Top 40 spot on the New Zealand charts and put her on the map as a hot artist on the rise. She collaborated with Gotye on his 2011 single "Somebody That I Used To Know" -- a worldwide smash hit that topped the charts in 26 countries,  earned the duo two Grammy Awards, and launched the pair to stardom overnight. Since then she's released her 2011 critically acclaimed full-length Vows and toured alongside Foster the People and the Kooks. On tour Kimbra sings tracks from her 2014 album The Golden Echo among older fan favorites and delivers one exciting performance after another.

Kimbra, put on one of the best shows I have seen n years. Her band was very good. I love the CD, but hearing her live made me wish I could remaster the CD to pick up some the frequencies lost on the CD. The live performance was so much better than the recording. Kimbra's passion and enthusiasm through the entire show is infectious . The joy she emits can't help but make you smile. She is an amazing performer.

She ran the stage like a contorting marathoner, and her voice was pitch perfect the whole time. Want to see her again right now! The venue was gorgeous.

Kimbra was absolutely amazing. She had high energy and great stage presence. Her voice is incredible and she looks like she truly enjoys performing. I would love to see her again. Tore it up!!!

by Eclecticcaligirl on 10/6/12The Fonda Theatre - Hollywood

The Stepkids opening the show was fantastic. Their performance alone was worth the price of the ticket! And then... Little Miss Kimbra came on and worked the hell out of the stage and her costume. I mean wow! I thought I loved her before, but seeing her live completely solidified it. Also I have to point out Kimbras guitarist, idk his name but he's the Latino guy that was killing it! I highly recommend this performance. (obviously)

    Kimbra

I caught the opening act, The Stepkids and I thought they were a great warmup to Kimbra's set, so if you usually forgo the opening act (as I usually do) change it up just this once, they have a great jam band set up and the lightshow they use is super trippy with their funk/rock feel from the 60s/70s. That being said, Kimbra was amazing, her band was just as great as she was, they are a talented group altogether and gel very well together. The live versions of all her songs were even faster paced and more energetic than those recorded on the album, and made for a fun night and a lot of dancing, she is spectacular, and looped live for several numbers (Settle Down, Something in the Way You Are, Cameo Lover, Plain Gold Ring) and that was by far the highlight of my night, she is a master of her voice and the stage, and her grin and laugh is infectious. All in all I would definitely see her again if offered, the live experience offered her music a new and interesting dimension to her already layered musical talent. I would also recommend her to anyone that likes a fun, danceable and fast paced concert experience, Kimbra is on the rise and I am so excited to see her live again and hear new material.

Probably one of the most amazing performances ever

by MichaelLee on 10/6/12The Fonda Theatre - Hollywood

I recently saw Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson all in a week, and honestly Kimbra blew all of them right out of the water. Literally speechless, very powerful and epic.

This by far was one of my favorite shows I've been to so far. Kimbra is absolutely incredible and so entertaining to watch. She is extremely talented and very unique, and I think she is at the top in music right now. The show overall was so fun and one of the most memorable shows ever! She did so great. This was my third or fourth show at the Fonda and I love it there as well.

    Kimbra the Amazing

by MHBN on 10/6/12The Fonda Theatre - Hollywood

Kimbra had such high energy throughout the show! What really pushed her over the edge for me was when she pulled out her inhaler and said "Who has asthma? It sucks doesn't it!"

    Too much too little

by Paradisco on 10/4/12Fonda Theater - Hollywood

This was the first time I left a show early out of disappointment. Kimbra came out on stage in a dress that looked like a preschool arts and craft project. It had shoulder pads made of a wig cut into two, a big skirt with green metallic leaves on them, and her hair was teased to make a fluffy helmet. I couldn't even look at her and had to focus on the beautiful tapestry behind her. The first two songs you couldn't hear her vocals because the band was too loud. Maybe I had too high of expectations, but she met them when performing Plain Gold Ring. But then it was back to jumping around the stage, making strange faces, and wasting her beautiful voice for a quirky gimmick. I left a few songs later. I wanted to hear my favorite song settle down, but I was afraid of what I would hear or see.

    Exciting and unique

by Anonymous on 6/28/12Rumsey Playfield - New York City

I saw Kimbra open for Foster the People in May. She put on a great show and had the outfit and spunk to match. Incredibly talented and just such a unique artist.

    Good performer

by Anonymous on 6/24/12Target Center - Minneapolis

Saw her open for Foster the People. Amazing singer, such a big voice for a little person. But after the show she refused to stop and talk to fans, sign autographs or take pictures. While Foster gladly did all the above. She wouldnt even acknowledge people. Just kept her head down and walked to her bus. I still like her music, just see her in a different light...
