About

It says all you need to know about Buddy Guy that the music genre that he has come to embody, the Chicago Blues, could never hope to contain him. In the more than 55 years since the Louisiana moved to Chicago and embarked on one of the most influential careers a guitarist could ever hope for (just ask Eric Clapton), Guy is still pushing the envelope of his artistry. But what is remarkable about this Rock N' Roll Hall of Famer is that he isn't sacrificing an iota of his relevancy while doing so. Guy proves it not just in concerts that are as high energy now as they were when he was heralding a rock guitar revolution in the 1960's, but also on the charts. His 2010 musical autobiography-of-sorts Living Proof was the blues legend's highest carting record to date, while his 2013 double disk follow up Rhythm and Blues was #1 on the Blues chart and showed 77-year-old to be every bit the firecracker as guest stars Kid Rock and Arrowsmith. If his last few decades have proven anything, it's that a ticket to a Buddy Guy concert isn't simply a tour through blues history, but an opportunity to see a genre's foremost practitioner still at the top of his game, with as much to say as ever has.

    Awesome

by kh58 on 4/12/24Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre at the Count Basie Center - Red Bank

Buddy was awesome. I teared up a bit leaving thinking this is probably the last time I will get to see him. He's entertaining as well as being a great blues man.

    New to Blues

by San on 4/12/24Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre at the Count Basie Center - Red Bank

Excellent show, my first blues show. I so wish he was retiring. Great drinks and I really felt secure with the metal detectors and extra security.

    Disappointed

by Gus on 4/12/24Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre at the Count Basie Center - Red Bank

I've seen Buddy Guy several times before. I know he's older now, so I did not expect the same level of energy. He was still extremely good. His band is exceptional. However, his opening act, Bobby Rush, although he has skills with a long resume, (which he outlined several times), was on for way too long. Then he comes back out for the final 20 minutes with BG. By this point I had just about enough of him.

    Last Of A Dying Breed!

by mmgpsych on 4/12/24Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre at the Count Basie Center - Red Bank

Buddy Guy is amazing. At his age, 87 years old, to do a 90 minute set is quite something. And to boot, he hasn't lost a musical step at all. If you're a fan of traditional Blues -- think BB King, Albert King, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf et al. - - you'll enjoy the concert immensely.

    A fond farewell

by Mike on 4/9/24The Lyric - Baltimore

I didn't know Buddy is 87, soon to be 88. I thought he was somewhere around 81 years old. He seemed a little tired and confused at times, but fortunately he had Bobby Rush with him. Bobby helped him hold the show together and made it even more entertaining for us, as did Buddy's son. Altogether, it was great seeing Buddy for my first and maybe last time. The band backing him up was pretty good. I may be getting too old to go to live shows, since the bass was way too loud and boomy for me, but at least I could hear the keyboard player this time. By the way, the keyboard player did a journeyman's job in introducing the show and in talking Buddy off the stage at the end. Everything considered, it was great seeing Buddy live and I won't be forgetting how much fun my son-in-law and I had.

Awesome show...glad I got to see these two legends.

by Mikenyork on 4/8/24The Lyric - Baltimore

Not a show for everyone...but if you like interplay between two kings of the blues, this was the show for you. Yes, they did their own things, with their own bands, but the interplay between the two, when Bobby Rush came out on stage, was something you'll never see again. Each show has got to be different. I guess that's why Buddy Guy says he never rehearses...you can't rehearse if you don't know what you're going to be playing.

    Pretty good experience

by JK on 4/7/24The Lyric - Baltimore

The concert was wonderful, the venue was as beautiful, but the concessions were not great. My husband asked for a double and I a single (which they gave us) but then charged us for two doubles. Not enough of an issue to keep me from coming back, but pay attention to the written prices and what you are being charged.

    Bass guitar waaaay too loud

by Blu on 4/7/24The Lyric - Baltimore

Loved the show overall, however the bass guitar was so loud it overshadowed almost every instrument including the drums. Thank goodness I had earplugs or I’m not sure I could’ve stayed for the entire show.

    Buddy Guy— Fantastic show

by John on 4/7/24The Lyric - Baltimore

The Lyric Theatre is a great small theatre for a music event. Every seat is a good seat. Buddy Guy and Bobby Rush put on a fantastic show. One of the best events I’ve been to.

    Buddy’s last stand

by Burnzie on 4/7/24The Lyric - Baltimore

It was sad watching what was one of the greatest bluesmen ever , I’ve watched him electrify and basically blow away any guitar player in the past but on this night he was absent. Rambling, repetitive, barely finishing a song and lacking his signature guitar mastery

    Loved Seeing Two Blues Legends

    by RM2Static on 4/7/24The Lyric - Baltimore

This was a fun evening of Blues music. I loved seeing both Bobby Rush and Buddy Guy together on stage. I was shocked to see Bobby Rush come out as the opener! I never had the chance to see him before and he was incredible! It is hard to believe he is 91 years old! Buddy Guy was excellent. My only complaint was the audio within the Lyric wasn't that great and at times Buddy sounded muffled.

Eddie Gale was amazing and so was Buddy Guy! So happy we were able to see both! The seating was extremely too close to each other so very uncomfortable!
