It was decent.
by afterbite on 4/7/14The Tabernacle - AtlantaSo, essentially what you get is this: actors that voice some of the characters sitting around and chatting, the executive producer (at least at my location), some Archer cartoon action, and a surprise concert from the woman who sings for Cherlene accompanied by Drivin' N Cryin' (again, at least at my location). They come out, do a bit or two, have audience members come up to re-enact a scene, and answer questions. Maybe it's because I live in ATL, where we have Dragon*Con every year, but I was a little disappointed with what was on offer. This was pretty much your standard panel at any big Convention event, though obviously without all of the other perks/entertainment on offer at one. It was a little all over the place - too much Lucky Yates, too little Chris Parnell (with the exception of a cringe-worthy skit starring Cyril that name-checked every Atlanta institution you might expect, perhaps as if their simple mention was supposed to garner laughs), and Aisha Tyler pretty much carrying the whole thing and injecting the most life into it. H. Jon Benjamin was pretty good - at least he successfully tried fanservice more so than anyone else - but quiet for most of it. They don't really have good show stories since they record in isolation and sometimes on opposite coasts. They took maybe 6-7 questions and actually answered a couple of them. Before you know it, it was over. I did get a couple of laughs and it was neat to see the cast members, but I wouldn't say it was worth the price of admission (and certainly not admission + parking). Maybe my hopes were too high for what you can actually do in a live event focused on an animated show or maybe I've been spoiled by the better panels I've seen.
