First, Ticketmaster got it right. Having my tickets in my phone made it so easy to enter. But actually getting great seats did not work out ideally. The presale opened at noon on some random day in November I think. Anyhow, I was working that day and they sold out before I could get online :-( As it turns out, they were ok seats, in Sec ORTERR, Row X, Seat 35 - 36. Next time I will be sure to be online when the presale opens though!
Forward to concert night, parking was a little rough. We had to hoof it a few blocks, but it wasn't too bad. Luckily we arrived early enough. The crew at the Fox were great. They came up to us to help us find our way to our seats, and were generally all very nice and helpful people.
This was not a 'rock' concert with electric guitar, bass, drums, etc. The stage sported just a piano, cello, a couple guitars, and mandolin, true to the 'intimate evening' theme. There were also several guitars to the side, which Brian the stage helper guy shuttled back and forth during the show, for which Sarah and the audience repeatedly called out thank you's.
Sarah really put herself out there and was very open about what was behind some of the songs and her inner feelings and openness, and how it didn't always play out too well for her. Hmm, welcome to the club? The music was typical Sarah McLachlan very personal, slow, sometimes sad, always cathartic. She played her preferred version of sweet surrender, sans the upbeat tempo required to make it to the top of the billboard.
Sarah was accompanied by the uber talented Vanessa Freebairn-Smith on backing vocals, acoustic guitar, percussion, and cello (my fave). I have never enjoyed live music more than this. They could have topped it by playing Last Dance, but sadly they did not. Overall, it was a great venue, great concert, and a great night.
