About

Sarah McLachlan is one of most distinctive female vocalists after breaking out in the ’90s behind singles such as “Building a Mystery” and “I Will Remember You.” With 1994’s Fumbling Towards Ecstasy, McLachlan became a star. The album peaked at number 50 on the Billboard 200 chart and number five on the Canada Top Albums/CDs chart. As of 2023, Fumbling Towards Ecstasy has been certified platinum three times in the United States. McLachlan released her debut album Touch in 1988. Her 1997 effort Surfacing debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and hosted her three highest-charting Hot 100 singles: “Building a Mystery,” at No. 13, “Adia” at No. 3 and “Angel” at No. 4. The album went on to win two Grammy Awards. Surfacing coincided with the first Lilith Fair, the wildly successful all-female touring festival co-founded and hosted by McLachlan that took place from 1997 through 1999. In 2003, Afterglow marked McLachlan’s third consecutive Top 10 album, and she maintained that streak with studio albums released through 2014’s Shine On. McLachlan has won 12 JUNO Awards and in 2017 was inducted into The Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

    Lilith

by realtorgirl on 7/3/10Sleep Country Amphitheater (Amph at Clark County) - Ridgefield

I realize it is Sarah McLachlan's show and I love her music. But her style is too mellow after upbeat, rockin' performers like Sheryl Crow and Sugarland who had the lawn crowd up and dancing. By the time Sarah came on it was kind of a let down. Had Sarah played earlier in the evening and let the high energy performances end the show, her music would have been more appreciated and the whole event would have ended on a high note. As it was, half the lawn was gone before she finished. We stayed hoping all the performers would sing together in the end, and they did, but only for one song.

Love Sarah McLaughlin would watch her for hours...

by theJwags on 7/3/10Sleep Country Amphitheater (Amph at Clark County) - Ridgefield

I loved Sarah McLaughlin and Sheryl Crow both unbelievable musician, when you can play the piano and the guitar while singing. And Sarah McLaughlin I could listen to for hours, she is my favorite and plays amazing piano. And I love that Sheryl Crow played more songs. The one thing would have been nice to know when all of the singing started before coming to the Lilith Fair, but that is a pretty minor complaint. Thanks for a great show.

No published listing of line up or times. Start time 2:30 NOT! They did not open gates until 3pm, would not let us sit in our seats even though it was raining until after 5pm and the first band on stage did not start until 5:50. Vocal sound could have been better as the band drowned out some of the vocal artist. For future: Adhere to times, publish line up and times.

    Lilith Fair was amazing!

by RobynT on 7/3/10Sleep Country Amphitheater (Amph at Clark County) - Ridgefield

Everyone sounded and looked great. So good to see Sheryl and Sara out on the road again, they are both amazing musicians. They looked like they were having fun! The rain put a damper on it a little bit though...Glad we had seats under cover!

    Awesome show!

There was music for everyone and the energy was amazing! Go if you get the chance!

The show rocked! All the acts were amazing. Only two minor complaints at all. First, I wish Erika had a longer set. What she did play was great though. Biggest complaint was the traffic nightmare leaving but that is almost impossible to avoid. Overall, a wonderful afternoon and night spent listening to lovely ladies.

I came to hear music not watch Cougar Town

by MikeRosen on 7/3/10Sleep Country Amphitheater (Amph at Clark County) - Ridgefield

Yes, the artists were extraordinary and the concept and causes Lilith Fair supports are outstanding and I would've been happy to wait in the rain for Sarah McLachlan but I was ready to leave when the audience was forced to wait for Sarah and watch "Cougar Town". Honestly I didn't watch it but I'm wondering how this fits the Lilith theme? I did note that ABC staff bribed concert goers with promised "gifts" to fill out a survey after the show. When the surveys were collected people were awarded with "light-up toys" made of plastic. Definitely not the message this concert intended. Do the artists know this is happening? Is this being done to reduce the costs of the show? Why are people being given disposable plastic ponchos? Why not hand out umbrellas that can be returned at the end of the show? All of this undermines your art and what you hope to accomplish.

    Great beyond words.

by ThompsonLane on 7/3/10Sleep Country Amphitheater (Amph at Clark County) - Ridgefield

This event was so much better than I'd imagined it would be. I was concerned about how they would manage to play so many acts in one evening but they did it with style, grace and magnificent planning. The best acts, in my opinion, were Sugarland and (of course) Sarah McLachlan. Sugarland put on such a rousing show that the crowd, which was somewhat lethargic from the long, rainy day woke up and really got into it. Sarah, the headliner, was fantastic. Her lyrics and voice are stunning and were an amazing way to cap of the night.

    Grace Potter rocks!!!

by Portland568 on 7/3/10Sleep Country Amphitheater (Amph at Clark County) - Ridgefield

First, if you take one thing away from this review, go see Grace Potter & the Nocturnals!!! The lineup additions have made this a kickass rock & roll act. Definitely a must see if you get the chance. Sheryl Crow can still rock. She was on form. The energy, power and grace she brings to the stage is stunning. Power and beauty in action. This was the first time I've ever seen Sugerland. I'd heard some of their songs on the radio before and wasn't really impressed. However, the live show is a blast. Their energy is infectious and gets you up and moving. Great fun. Sarah McLachlan was as beautiful as ever. Her voice is still stunning. Both the old and new material sounded fresh and relevant. The only downside at the event was the sound engineering during Erykah Badu's performance. I can't really review her show due to wash of mud from the lowend. The bass drum and and bass just merged into a continual lowend hum with no definition that overpowered everything else. Bummer. I think it would have been great if I could have heard it. Overall however, the show was a success. Definitely recommended.

Sarah McLachlan was spectacular last night! Not many artists can open a concert with a song like "Angel" and then go on and out perform everyone else. Out of all the performers last night, Sarah was the best. Her sound was top notch. I was disappointed with Sugarland. I love them, but I could barely hear Jennifer Nettles over the sound of her band. One of the best moments during Sugarlands' performance was when they sang "Baby Girl." The whole group was at the front of the stage in a semei circle and it was one of the few times Jennifer wasn't getting drownd out by the band. Overall, I loved Lilith Fair and I would definitely go back.

    Lilith was fantastic

by Joambe on 6/29/10McMahon Stadium - Calgary

We loved the concert. All the performers were truly amazing and totally entertained us. The weather was great which helped a lot. I'm glad we had this opportunity. The only bad thing about the whole concert was the long line up to get in when the doors opened at 2:30. Stood in line for an hour in the hot blazing sun. After that everything was very good.

    Lilith, Calgary

by lngf on 6/29/10McMahon Stadium - Calgary

Overall was very good, but felt that food service was lacking; too long of lines and not enough to choice from. Shows went well, except that Sarah's performance was cut short and she was one of the main reasons I came. We should have been notified how the stage setup was going to be and the times and lineup of performers.( prior to arriving at Calgary)

Thrilled that Lillith Fair is back!

by Grisdelda on 5/10/10DTE - Pine Knob - Clarkston

We saw Lillith Fair years ago at DTE. It was a long, almost all day concert packed with stars and some less known singer song-writers who were just great. You can't compare this with a Sarah McLachlan only concert. This is a large group of talented female musicians who have great energy and it's a very fun concert!

    Pompous and self-absorbed

by RacerChicago on 3/26/10United Center - Chicago

I had been a fairly big fan of Sarah’s music, and for a special occasion, paid huge money so my wife and I could sit in the middle of the fourth row at a one of her large arena shows about two years ago. Don’t bother… Sarah and her band came on and rushed through her songs with hardly any comments to the audience other than the obligatory “Thank you very much” and “I love you Chicago”… She never once introduced anyone in her band – who all seemed to be excellent musicians. But she did have a tender little moment where she had them all gather at her feet while she did a song at the piano – all of them looking up at her lovingly. The show was like watching MTV – huge screens and flashing lights, cameras catching and displaying her image everywhere, movies playing on the large screens, weird set pieces that were brought in and out – little vignettes which had Sarah sitting in scenery performing songs in a “theme”. The show was definitely all about Sarah and how grand she was – the diva – definitely not about the music. Sure there were a couple of times where it was just her and the piano – but these were few and far between. I’d come to hear Sarah’s music live, not see a stage show. If you liked the Lion King – you’ll love the show. If you want to hear the music – buy the CDs…

    Excellence in music

by Cellamay on 1/17/10The Civic Center - Portland

Never has there been a time when I anticiptaed a concert as much as when Sara goes on tour. Wether it was solo or with the Lilith Fair I knew there was an exceptional time ahead of me. Sara has such a large and loyal following it's as if there is a familarity in the people gathering, an electric feeling starts to stir in the air. After everyone has taken their seats and the band takes the stage whistles and claps engulf the darkness. Taking the stage a strong, rich voice comes through and I have never seen such participation so strong as at one of her shows. The music is played sometimes as it is on the lp, but Sara also has such great live remix of her most popular songs. It's a show I would highly reccomend to anyone who loves live shows and great music!
