Sarah McLachlan is one of most distinctive female vocalists after breaking out in the ’90s behind singles such as “Building a Mystery” and “I Will Remember You.” With 1994’s Fumbling Towards Ecstasy, McLachlan became a star. The album peaked at number 50 on the Billboard 200 chart and number five on the Canada Top Albums/CDs chart. As of 2023, Fumbling Towards Ecstasy has been certified platinum three times in the United States. McLachlan released her debut album Touch in 1988. Her 1997 effort Surfacing debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and hosted her three highest-charting Hot 100 singles: “Building a Mystery,” at No. 13, “Adia” at No. 3 and “Angel” at No. 4. The album went on to win two Grammy Awards. Surfacing coincided with the first Lilith Fair, the wildly successful all-female touring festival co-founded and hosted by McLachlan that took place from 1997 through 1999. In 2003, Afterglow marked McLachlan’s third consecutive Top 10 album, and she maintained that streak with studio albums released through 2014’s Shine On. McLachlan has won 12 JUNO Awards and in 2017 was inducted into The Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

It was a paired down set with one musician accompanying her. It was great, beautiful, really one of the best five concerts I have been to. I wish she had played two specific songs, but it was the best.
Amazing in all aspects. Ms. McLachlan and he accompanist were of course specutalar as always, but the crowd, venue, support, management, etc. were superb.

Even though we had seats in row N (way up high), we could hear everything. (In fact, a couple of times the high notes were painfully loud.) The show was so much fun and Sarah played all of my favorite songs. I want to give a special shout-out to the back lot security guard. My friend left her cell phone in the theater. As she lives in Chico and had an early morning appointment back home, she could not wait until morning to track down the phone, if at all possible. We drove back to the theater, but it was closed up tight. Sarah’s bus was waiting behind the theater, so we approached to see if there was anything anyone could do. The security guard and some unknown young man went back into the theater, searched around, and found my friend’s phone. It was a definite moment for her. So thanks all around, Fox Theater in Oakland.
Absolutely lovely venue at the Encore Theater with Sara putting on a emotional, entertaining intimate show. Would highly recomend it to her fans.
The Fox theater is such an intimate and close up venue. Not a bad seat in the place. The acoustics were great and the music sounded superb. Sarah's voice is wonderful and still sounds the same as on her albums. Just a wonderful show at a wonderful venue. Sarah is the best.
Sarah is incredible. after all these years she is still as powerful as ever. Her voice is so beautiful that it brought me to tears several times. she is a songwriter, producer, musician, singer, she has it all. And again her voice and songs are so enrapturing. love fox theatre oakland but im really bummed that i didnt have the foresight to get better seats. please bring her back Fox theatre Oakland, id love to see her again!

Sarah McLachlan's voice is still as angelic as it's ever been. What a talent! She also happens to be an amazing human being, genuine and unpretentious. The show started on time. No breaks until the encore, and she came out just 30 seconds later. She is the only performer I know who doesn't take herself too seriously and doesn't keep the audience hanging. She had the cellist Vanessa Freebairn-Smith performing with her during what was basically a 2-hour acoustic set. The sound was fabulous. We had great seats in row P of the orchestra section, it was the first row of higher seats so we had an unobstructed view of the stage. The Fox is a great venue, especially for concerts like this. I will definitely be back, especially if Sarah McLachlan is singing!
Her band arrangements are amazing but I really missed the instrumentation. I’m not a fan of this trend towards “intimate evening with” / “acoustic” / “stripped down” show. Just seems like cost savings. Cut back on the flourishes maybe but do give us the BAND!
Sarah McLachlan was great, but the new seating at the Fox is horrible. We were in bar stools with no arms! So uncomfortable. The row in front of us were bar stools also, and they weren’t even staggered so we couldn’t see in front of us. We had to move our heads to the side the whole time so we could see the stage. I wish I would’ve known they changed the seating in the section so I wouldn’t have gotten tickets there. Horrible.
Amazing concert. Great singer and songwriter. Appeals to the experiences of life. So glad to have someone putting words to what we can then relate.
She was absolutely amazing such an angelic voice and the performance was just beautiful. Her acoustics were on key even after all these years she hasn’t missed a step, one of the best musicians out there and I can’t wait to see her perform live again.
Got to go by chance. This was a last minute get, and the cherry to our Vegas trip. The sound in this theatre was really good. Every song clear as could be. After this I really want to go back and see another.
Sarah was amazing! It's been about 15 years since I last saw her in concert but the intimate setting was by far the greatest. I am sure everyone in the SD Civic Theatre shed at least one tear. Thank you for an unforgettable night!
This was one of the best intimate concerts I’ve ever been to! She sounded great and her stories were wonderful! I throughly enjoyed her new songs as well as the old. I highly recommend this experience!

Sarah and the young lady who accompanied her were wonderful. An evening of her opening her heart and soul to the crowd and the crowd responding with love and appreciation. Always a great performer, this seemed more intimate and personal.
