About
The Spinners on Tour
The Spinners are considered by many to be the best R&B group of the early 1970s, embodying the smooth, seductive sounds of Philadelphia soul with their lush instrumental arrangements and gorgeous vocal harmonies. With an enduring career spanning six decades, the band actually got their start in Detroit, signing with Motown in the 1960s.
With immense popularity that spans the globe, the band boasts a wide-ranging catalog of classic hits, including "I'll Be Around," "The Rubberband Man," "Then Came You," and "Could It Be I'm Falling In Love." With 18 platinum and gold albums, millions of albums sold and six Grammy nominations under their belts, there's no denying the universal and enduring appeal of The Spinners' music.
In 2021, The Spinners released their first original studio album since the 1980s, appropriately titled 'Round the Block and Back Again, featuring all the elements of the band's classic sound. Be sure to catch these legends performing live when they come to a city near you.
The Spinners Live in Concert
Originally called The Domingoes, The Spinners first came together in 1954 when they were high school students in the Detroit suburb of Ferndale. The quintet's original lineup featured Billy Henderson, Pervis Jackson, James Edwards, Henry Fambrough, and C.P. Spencer, who was replaced in 1956 by George Dixon.
The band attracted the attention of producer Harvey Fuqua in the early '60s, and they released the first single "That's What Girls Are Made For" under the name The Spinners in 1961, which immediately became a Top 10 R&B hit.
The Spinners' big break came in 1970 with a crossover hit co-written by Stevie Wonder called "It's a Shame." The Spinners ended up signing with Atlantic Records in 1972 where producer Thom Bell helped them define their warm, smooth, Philadelphia soul sound that became so popular around the world.
With several lineup changes over the years and the passing of original members Billy Henderson and Pervis Jackson in 2007 and 2008, Henry Fambrough is the only surviving original member of The Spinners as of 2022 and led the group to release 2021's studio album 'Round the Block and Back Again.
