About

With their 40th anniversary at hand in 2013, legendary country band Alabama embarked on their first tour in more than a decade and released an officially endorsed tribute album titled "Alabama and Friends." The album features current country stars covering some of Alabama's country-rock classics -- including Kenny Chesney on "Lady Down on Love," Jason Aldean on "Tennessee River," Luke Bryan on "Love in the First Degree," and the Eli Young Band on "The Closer You Get" -- along with two new Alabama songs. It was a fitting tribute for the most successful band in country music history,  which logged 34 singles that topped Billboard's country singles chart between 1980 and 2011 and has sold more than 75 million albums. The band's core remains the same as when it was founded in 1969, when they were known as Wildcountry: Randy Owen (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), his cousin Teddy Gentry (bass), and another cousin, Jeff Cook (lead guitar, keyboards, fiddle). By 1973, the trio had decided to pursue music full time and they signed their first record deal -- and changed their name to The Alabama Band at the label's request -- in 1977.  By the '80s, the band had hit its stride, moving huge numbers of concert tickets and filling their trophy cases with multiple Grammy, CMA and ACM awards.

    Once in a lifetime experience

by LindaM on 5/3/24GIANT Center - Hershey

Fantastic concert - starting with Lee Greenwood better than ever - ending with Stars and Stripes and the Eagle Flies followed by God Bless the USA:) Followed by a very entertaining Alabama. Randy Owen and crew do not disappoint. Loved the flashback photos and videos along with the very enthusiastic audience participation. A special shout out to the bands and crews for very creative presentations. Megan and her fiddle were unbelievably great, too. So glad we got to see all of them and Hershey Giant Stadium is always a great place to visit.

They still are the real deal— born entertainers who had everybody stompin’ and clappin’ —-fantastic fiddler made Orange Blossom Special look easy— great night that went way too fast—!

    Return to Alabama

by TB on 4/30/24GIANT Center - Hershey

All in all I felt was a good show mixing some new people taking the spot light. The fact that Randy is now 74 ,I tried to think of any other performers at that age who are still out there couldn’t think of one. For me it was very personal and emotional because my late wife and I have seen now 89 or 90 concerts by Alabama and I felt as though she was with me Thank you!

    Not that great :(

Nobody was really hyped up - and really a 'roll on tour' without singing 'roll on'? Not very impressed.

    Very good, wanted more

by Jmicro on 4/30/24GIANT Center - Hershey

Tickets were pricey as expected, but extra $35 for parking is outrageous. And standing in a ridiculously long line to go through security only 1 hour before showtime was unexpected. Barely had time to get a snack or a T-shirt or CD before the show. Lee Greenwood was a fantastic opening act, lots of energy, great voice and very entertaining. Alabama played lots of the hits, although the energy of the old days was clearly missing. Randy Owen was great but really showed his age. Teddy Gentry was great, voice was still strong, the band, especially the fiddle player was fantastic, especially on the Orange Blossom Special. She stole the show all night. Glad they came to town, reminiscing all night about the old days of their heyday. Great songwriting.

Wonderful seeing 2 acts that we always loved.

They weren’t as energetic as I had seen them several years ago but the music was great as always. We were glad we could see Lee Greenwood and Alabama on the same concert date. Always love listening to them!

    Great show

by jpont on 4/30/24GIANT Center - Hershey

Alabama was good. Getting older, but still good. The young lady on the fiddle was absolutely terrific ad was the keyboard player. The biggest hit of the night was Lee Greenwood. He was absolutely terrific and he's 81 years old. I'd recommend this show to anyone who is a true American and a real country music fan. See them while you can.
