In this case the statement "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts," is not true. The new Dant Crossing Amphitheater in New Haven, KY is really nice. The sound system is the best, the lighting and the seating are the best for an outdoor venue. The talent for the night was a great lineup with Jamie O'Neal, Carolyn Dawn Johnson, and Michelle Wright with Rodney Good on guitar and Shannon Lawson opening. With all these great parts you would think the whole show would have been great, but it fell short. The venue needs someone who knows about sound and lights and promotion. This was missing. The sound was really distorted and the lights were set so that the most of the light was pointed in the face of the audience and not on the artist. My wife and I sat second row center and could not hear or see the act on stage. The ticket price was too high and after the add-on charges it was crazy and then you had to pay $5.00 to park in a cow pasture. There seemed to be no promotion of the show. I found out about the show at the eleventh hour by accident. I saw and heard no radio promotion and nothing in print. There was only a lonely web site for the venue that you would have to be looking for to find. The place was filled with comp tickets and people who cared nothing about music because they talked through the entire show. The price of a drink was way out of line. It all seemed to be about get the money and run. What a shame. All this money spent and so little to show for it.
