About

Marcus King faces heartache, addiction, and mental health head-on in his music. Pain quakes below the vibrato of his voice, and his delivery weighs heavy with booze-drenched regrets and mistakes in lonely hotels. The GRAMMY® nominated fourth generation musician from Greenville, SC, started playing guitar at 8-years-old following in the footsteps of his guitarist Father and Grandpa. Logging thousands of miles on the road as "The Marcus King Band," he established himself with unparalleled performance prowess. During 2020, he linked up with Dan Auerbach and cut his solo debut El Dorado, garnering a GRAMMY® Award nomination for "Best Americana Album." Between headlining venues, he performed alongside Chris Stapleton, Greta Van Fleet, and Nathanial Rateliff in addition to gracing the bills of Stagecoach and more. He has launched various mental health initiatives, including a guitar auction collaboration with MusiCares. Now, his 2024 album Mood Swings feels like the moment of baptism when water washes away a life's worth of sins and degradation and all that's left is a revived, yet still real-as-hell primal scream. It's as if King strained raw soul straight from his gut up through that broken heart and on to the record under the watchful eye of Rick Rubin. Emphasizing his vocals front-and-center more than ever before, the trusty guitar he's so often associated with plays the sideman this time around (though there's no shortage of impressive shredding). For as dark as everything seemed, you can't help but feel a sense of hope in the power of Marcus's voice.

    Marcus Great! Wiltern Just Okay.

by Concert Goer on 5/19/24The Wiltern - Los Angeles

Thoroughly enjoyed Marcus King and the fantastic group of musicians he assembled for his show at The Wiltern. He performed a variety of his music with an emphasis on Mood Swings and really showed his talent as a guitarist, songwriter, musician and band leader. The concert started about an hour late, opened by JJ Wilde who was entertaining. While I loved my first visit to The Wiltern due to the architecture and vibe, the acoustics were very poor causing the music to sound muddy and muffled. Seats in the Loge were fantastic! Definitely want to see Marcus King perform again in the future.

This was such a fun event to attend! Our first ever time seeing Mr. Marcus King, and first event at The Van Buren. We can’t say enough on how awesome this event was! The sound was really good, the air conditioning was perfectly cool, and we will defiantly be returning for more shows in the future! If you ever have a chance to see Marcus King do it! You won’t regret it! Thank you to Marcus, band, and crew for coming to visit AZ!

    Marcus King

by Wildcats81 on 5/18/24The Van Buren - Phoenix

Love Marcus King, he never disappoints. The only issue was the mix, the instruments sounded great yet the vocals were muddled at times. Couldn't hear the background singer's at all. I saw him in Phoenix and my buddy saw him the night before in Los Angeles and said the same thing.

    Tight & Flawless!

by TC on 5/18/24The Van Buren - Phoenix

I grew up groovin on BB King in 9th Grade - and went to see him many times. Later - he was a neighbor of ours in Las Vegas! BB's Band was TIGHT! Marcus' Band was every bit as Tight! BB inspired So Many Bands & Players - as he should have. But then - Here is MK! My God - if he looked at the neck of his Guitar more than 3 times throughout the entire show - I sure didn't see it! Marcus could Sing and Play (way beyond my ability) and not even watch what his Left Hand was up to! I believe that he could play a Fretless Guitar - though I've never seen one! Don't Miss the Opportunity to see, hear & feel a Real Master at work, or at Play!! Cheers Rock On - TC

    Great venue

by MomR on 5/18/24The Van Buren - Phoenix

Great venue, VIP experience was very nice. Staff was professional, helpful and very nice. Unfortunately had to miss Marcus King because ADA was terrible. Thank goodness we got a nice VIP experience to compensate leaving early. View from ADA was perfect. But they had high top bar chairs which is terrible for leg disabled people. Probably won’t go to this venue again but if you do not have ADA needs the place was very nice and very nicely laid out.

    Marcus King Rocks

by Bing on 5/17/24The Wiltern - Los Angeles

My brother and I attended the Marcus King concert at the Wiltern Theater a couple of nights ago. After having a veggie burger across the street from the venue we were ready to enjoy the concert. I had been informed by my buddy that I was going to really enjoy the band and was anticipating greatness. What a talented band with soulful vocals and jamming musicians. My only critique is that in this day and age we the consumer of concerts should be treated to fine sound quality with no exception. We pay for this handsomely on all levels and with so many concerts these days and for the past 50 years that I've attended concerts sound quality remains an issue. It's not right! Have some pride and make that a priority for all of us.
