Good music, disappointing sound
by Nonomori on 1/1/24House of Blues Cleveland - ClevelandI enjoyed the music, especially Madeline Finn as the opening act, but the sound for the Myron Elkins band detracted from the experience. I will never understand why it is considered appropriate to play music at ear-threatening volumes in a live venue, and the standing-room-only nature of the venue made it easy to confirm that the volume was indeed too loud no matter where I positioned myself. This is not just a health-safety complaint: I know of no music genre in which the sound of a saxophone amplified to distortion is considered preferable. The balance was also a bit off, in my opinion, which was a little frustrating. I don't get out much to hear live music, so perhaps that's why I was surprised to discover that I was not allowed to bring a collapsible umbrella or a ball-point pen into the venue. A small matter, but peculiar.
