About

Marcus King faces heartache, addiction, and mental health head-on in his music. Pain quakes below the vibrato of his voice, and his delivery weighs heavy with booze-drenched regrets and mistakes in lonely hotels. The GRAMMY® nominated fourth generation musician from Greenville, SC, started playing guitar at 8-years-old following in the footsteps of his guitarist Father and Grandpa. Logging thousands of miles on the road as "The Marcus King Band," he established himself with unparalleled performance prowess. During 2020, he linked up with Dan Auerbach and cut his solo debut El Dorado, garnering a GRAMMY® Award nomination for "Best Americana Album." Between headlining venues, he performed alongside Chris Stapleton, Greta Van Fleet, and Nathanial Rateliff in addition to gracing the bills of Stagecoach and more. He has launched various mental health initiatives, including a guitar auction collaboration with MusiCares. Now, his 2024 album Mood Swings feels like the moment of baptism when water washes away a life's worth of sins and degradation and all that's left is a revived, yet still real-as-hell primal scream. It's as if King strained raw soul straight from his gut up through that broken heart and on to the record under the watchful eye of Rick Rubin. Emphasizing his vocals front-and-center more than ever before, the trusty guitar he's so often associated with plays the sideman this time around (though there's no shortage of impressive shredding). For as dark as everything seemed, you can't help but feel a sense of hope in the power of Marcus's voice.

This show was excellent. Seen MKB 5 times and cannot wait for them to come back to New England to see them again. The casino ballroom venue was terrific as well. Excellent concert experience and well worth the money.

    Hard Working Rising Star

    by TRP on 8/11/23

I first learned of Marcus when one of his songs popped up on my Pandora playlist. He struck a cord with me and I started seeking out more of his art. My first show was at Great Scott’s in Boston (2016). Young and eager. Couple years later I drove all the way up to Bangor Maine just to see him open for Chris Stapleton. Then saw him again in DC. He has been working really hard to expose as many people to his art as possible. The performance at the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom was out of this world. He played roughly 2 hours and covered across his catalog. Mark my words it will not be long and he will be known in every household.

Marcus & the Boys are amazing!

    by Bear on 8/11/23

Marcus and his band are absolutely top notch musicians and performers! This was my second time seeing him and I just love him! I do wish he had moved a couple feet in front of the organ because we were in the ADA seating and could mostly only see his head. The best part is watching him play, but he was amazing.

    Great show!!! Horrible venue acoustics.

    by JB on 8/11/23

Hampton Casino Ballroom is not set up properly for sound. I will avoid this venue and would rather drive an hour to Portland or Boston.

    Torn Up

    by Jamson77 on 8/11/23

Had never seen Marcus King live but was familiar with him from you Tube vids so I knew what to expect somewhat. It took a couple of songs to dial in the sound but once they did ....look out! Marcus is a monster guitar player and a powerful singer in the blues / soul style..he can belt'em out. Great originals and covers. Notably Little Feats Spanish Moon and Allmans Whipping Post which was huge. Loved the show and will see him if he comes round my neck of the woods.

    Great Artist - Terrible Sound

    by MAT on 8/11/23

Terrible sound at this venue ruined our experience. We could not understand a single word from this great player. In addition the sound was muddles with little to no differentiation between instruments. I contacted the venue and they say the artists provide their own sound management.

    BMO Stage Summerfest

by Hoagie on 6/28/23BMO Pavilion - Milwaukee

Other than coming out 10 minutes late the show was terrific!! Marcus rocked the house! He stepped in last minute to cover a cancellation. He deserved a bigger crowd but last minute notice hurt.

    Great talent, but terrible acoustics

    by Lashelle on 6/27/23

Gilloz theatre in Springfield, Mo on June 20th. Maggie Rose was the opening act. Somewhere in there is a beautiful voice...every song was over amplfied. There were a couple moments that she softened her voice and sounded like Bonnie Rait. Marcus's band members were very talented especially the drummer. Their sound engineer must have hearing loss. We were in the balcony in a theatre that holds 1 000 seats. No a bad seat in the house and very intimate. We were blasted out of our seats and left after about 30 minutes. Our ears were ringing. We love Marcus Kings music and were looking so forward to his concert. If it was at an outdoor venue or a larger indoor venue, it would have been better. We hope to see him in the future and have a better music experience.

    Disappointed

by Nes on 6/26/23BMO Pavilion - Milwaukee

Was very disappointed in this concert. It was more of a jam session which was not communicated on website. We spent money to watch Marcus jam but I could have seen it for free standing in the back at summer fest.

    Soulful experience!

by Chris Wojo on 6/25/23BMO Pavilion - Milwaukee

Marcus King is such an amazing talent and a really nice guy! The sound was good, the venue was amazing, and the addition of this show was amazing! I’m not that big of a country fan so I was very happy that I didn’t have to pay the premium price of the headliner he was opening for at another stage. Again, such a soulful and spiritual experience from an out of this world talent.

    Marcus king

by Rw on 6/13/23Packard Music Hall - Warren

The concert was great. The experience with Ticketmaster was not. Having to get an an account & then it telling me we each had to have our own ticket, no screenshots. It was a hassle, created anxiety for me & then when I got to the door my screen wouldn’t open & I had to go outside to get it to work. Unacceptable.
