About

With their 40th anniversary at hand in 2013, legendary country band Alabama embarked on their first tour in more than a decade and released an officially endorsed tribute album titled "Alabama and Friends." The album features current country stars covering some of Alabama's country-rock classics -- including Kenny Chesney on "Lady Down on Love," Jason Aldean on "Tennessee River," Luke Bryan on "Love in the First Degree," and the Eli Young Band on "The Closer You Get" -- along with two new Alabama songs. It was a fitting tribute for the most successful band in country music history,  which logged 34 singles that topped Billboard's country singles chart between 1980 and 2011 and has sold more than 75 million albums. The band's core remains the same as when it was founded in 1969, when they were known as Wildcountry: Randy Owen (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), his cousin Teddy Gentry (bass), and another cousin, Jeff Cook (lead guitar, keyboards, fiddle). By 1973, the trio had decided to pursue music full time and they signed their first record deal -- and changed their name to The Alabama Band at the label's request -- in 1977.  By the '80s, the band had hit its stride, moving huge numbers of concert tickets and filling their trophy cases with multiple Grammy, CMA and ACM awards.

    Alabama - Finally

by TSol on 5/15/24The Wharf Amphitheater - Orange Beach

Honestly, my favorite country band ever. I have other favorites but this one was my first. I've missed out on multiple opportunities to see this great band over the years (military, civilian, regular life). However, I was down in Mississippi for work and saw they were going to be in concert, I had the chance, the money and the time - I took advantage of all of it. You can tell they have been and were ful of energy and my biggest regret is not seeing them earlier (i'm sure it would've been wild). This experience was still nonetheless fantastic, I got to see them in a great venue on a great night with a great crowd. THANK YOU - ALABAMA!!!

    Sadly, A Let Down

by AlabamaFan on 5/14/24The Wharf Amphitheater - Orange Beach

I'm a lifelong fan of the band Alabama. I know all the songs, grew up listening to the music, visited the Fort Payne museum back in the day, etc. etc. Like all of us, Randy Owen is showing the signs of age. His voice has weakened. He just doesn't have the strength any more to project Alabama's hit songs in the way they were originally recorded. The show suffers accordingly. He attempts to rest his voice by including long stretches of audience sing-a-longs, but the overall show's energy is lacking. At the show at The Wharf, they didn't even sing "Roll On,"although this tour is the "Roll On"2 tour. If you love the band, by all means go see them and celebrate them once more. Just don't expect Randy and Teddy to be bouncing around the stage and belting the hits like they did in the 80s and 90s.

    Great concert overall, but…..

by Frayedknot on 5/14/24The Wharf Amphitheater - Orange Beach

Concert was great (my 9th Alabama concert!). Sound was horrible in the beginning. Mic feedback, low volume… Sound engineers got on it quickly and fixed the problems after the 1st 2 or 3 songs of the set. Never experienced this before at the Wharf. Seems like this should have been taken care of in soundcheck. And, yes, I have a little experience in this. Worked setup as a college student in 86-87 for a BonJovi concert and several others, as well. Issues were resolved and concert went on without a hitch. Thanks for the opportunity to provide feedback!

Genuine country music. Worth every cent!

by Miranda on 5/14/24The Wharf Amphitheater - Orange Beach

The best band ever. Beats anything “called country” for today’s standard. Worth every cent and more. Good, clean fun.

    Alabama-as !great as ever

by Judy on 5/14/24The Wharf Amphitheater - Orange Beach

I did miss Jeff Cook at the beginning of the concert, but the new fiddle player and guitarist quickly took away some of that. The show was awesome! Randy may move a little slower but he still has that voice and the harmonization was as great as ever! Loved every minute and they put on a great show!

Glad I was able to see them

by Alabama Fan on 5/14/24The Wharf Amphitheater - Orange Beach

I’m sorry, and I don’t mean to be rude but I definitely think it’s time for the band to retire unfortunately. I hope I’m still moving around at 74 but the sound just wasn’t there, understandable of course. In the end I’m still glad I was able to see them live, I just wish It had been 10 years or more ago.

    Longtime Alabama fan

by Marla on 5/14/24The Wharf Amphitheater - Orange Beach

I love Alabama and have been to more than 30 of their concerts over the past 41 years. However, as much as I love their music it’s time for them to retire. Their live performances are nowhere near what they used to be. Maybe it was just an off night but it seemed that they weren’t physically able to give the performance their all. A lot of people were leaving early unsatisfied with the performance. Being a diehard fan, I stayed until the end knowing that it’s the last time I’ll pay to attend one of their concerts.
