About

WISHFUL DRINKING, Carrie Fisher's autobiographical solo show, follows Fisher's life. Born to celebrity parents, Fisher lands among the stars when she's picked to play a princess in a little movie called ‘Star Wars.' But her story isn't all sweetness and light sabers. As a single mom, she also battles addiction, depression, mental institutions, and that awful hyperspace hairdo. It's an incredible tale-from having her father leave her mother for Elizabeth Taylor to marrying and divorcing singer/songwriter Paul Simon, from having the father of her baby leave her for a man to waking up one morning and finding a friend dead beside her in bed. Don't miss this opportunity to see Carrie Fisher's hit Broadway show.

    Carrie Fisher - Wishful Drinking

by twohattr1 on 2/10/12Hippodrome at France-Merrick Performing Arts Center - Baltimore

Carrie Fisher was wonderful. She was humorous and her delivery was great. She has great timing. She does realize that they way you take the sting out of some of life's cruelties is to own them, look at them with a positive attitude and do something about it. Her recovery shows. I would go again to see it, even knowing it would be the same content.

    Meh

by OneToughCookie on 2/9/12Hippodrome at France-Merrick Performing Arts Center - Baltimore

Content wasn't really that interesting, and "performance" was underwhelming. Even though it is all about her, it's still supposed to be an engaging theatrical event, but mostly it was not. Quite a few people left at intermission. Not good value for the money.

Carrie Fischer is incredibly funny when sharing her life story. You can see how humor has helped in her recovery and she's inspirational to those with drug and alcohol issues. Although at times it was like watching a car crash, you just couldn't look away but were afraid of what comes next. Overall, I enjoyed her performance. Would have liked to have the volume turned up a bit.

    A genuinely funny memoir

by CNel on 2/7/12Hippodrome at France-Merrick Performing Arts Center - Baltimore

Carrie has lived quite a life and this is quite a funny show. She is so good that you see the world, at least for two hours, through her eyes. If you're lucky, you'll get a Princess Leia wig put on your head! People in Baltimore: You have only one more week to see this show. Get your tickets now!

    She rules.

by Smbika on 2/7/12Hippodrome at France-Merrick Performing Arts Center - Baltimore

I loved it. Plain and simple - wry, witty, sarcastic, sardonic, mirthful, playful, introspective and wholly unapologetic. Need I add clever and engaging? Ms. Fisher is a brilliant storyteller and a wonderful comedian (NOT comedienne - I hate the gender specific words for people like Actor/Actress, Waiter/Waitress...still exceptions like "Dominatrix" are acceptable)... Her audience participation method was spot on and very comfortable to watch...no one was embarrassed (needlessly) and everyone seemed to love their part... All in all - a winner!

Entertaining, esp if you're a Dem

by Reddington on 2/6/12Hippodrome at France-Merrick Performing Arts Center - Baltimore

I would have gone with 4 stars except for Geo Bush and Republican jokes. Typical Hollywood mean-spirited liberal. A bipartisan approach would have been a lot smarter. Entertaining in a really canned way. Still good and we did laugh. What was tacky was Ms Fisher singing to a recording and not live music. Even a piano acccompanyment would have been an improvement. She only sang twice at the start and at the end. . The first half was better than the second which sometimes seemed like self-indulgent public therapy. Again, however, I could have gone with 4 stars for about 80% of it. If you're over 55, you'll like it better than if you're under.

    Carrie was alot of fun!

by pianoperson on 2/2/12Hippodrome at France-Merrick Performing Arts Center - Baltimore

My friends and I really enjoyed Carrie Fisher. she was open and honest about her difficulties without being maudlin. She discussed everything with humor. By the end of the evening, you felt as if you were her good friend. This is not a show I would have taken my husband to see. I think this is a show women would enjoy the most- like getting together with a girlfriend. I recommend it to women especially over the age of 50 who know who Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds are!

    Carrie Fisher is for Real!

by Tillymae on 10/27/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

Having read the book previously, I thought I knew what to expect at the show. However, the delivery by Ms. Fisher was honest, direct and though-provoking. We loved it! It also helps that I enjoy the 'golden era' of Hollywood (when her parents were vastly popular) and could easily identify with her comments and references to that time.

Carrie Fisher moved me to tears...of laughter!

by MagisterJW on 10/23/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

Even though I had already seen this show on HBO I couldn't miss the opportunity to see Carrie Fisher live. I was not disappointed. There's something about being there. Carrie had more energy than I remember from the broadcast. She was smoking away on her Electric Cigarette, looking svelte, prowling the stage and working the crowd like the pro she is. And seriously, as a Star Wars fan (but not a geek) since I was twelve, I actually got choked up as she finished the show quoting her famous holo message from the original film. I did not expect that! Go see her if you get the chance. She'll remind you of all the good feelings you have for this remarkable woman and icon.

    Gut Wrenching Humor!

by Abogada on 10/20/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

Carrie Fisher is brave and brilliant! She puts everything out on the stage and does so with a lot of humor and honesty. I enjoyed it tremendously - and while the second half was a bit less light hearted, it was all entertainingly done!

    Wishful Drinking hilarious

by Zaphod42 on 10/19/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

I'd read the book, so I knew Fisher had a great way of coming to grips with her life. She didn't disappoint in person. My wife and I were thoroughly entertained, laughed through most of it, and found Fisher charming and engaging. We met her after the show, and she was very approachable and accomodating. Highly recommend this show.

Carrie Fisher was delightfully funny & honest!!!

by AuntieLee on 10/18/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

What a trek down memory lane to see the history of Carrie Fisher on stage as only she can deliver. Ms. Fisher's performance was delightfully funny, poignant, and at times brutally honest about her trek through this life. The audience participation was wholly unexpected and provided many impromptu laughs that could not have been staged better! Ms. Fisher was warm, personable and showed that even after all she's been through, she has the fortiitude to maintain her equilibrium and show her depth of character beyond the silver screen and her portrayal of Princess Leia in Star Wars. We had a terrific time!

Carrie Fisher's one-woman show, Wishful Drinking, is an honest, funny, incisive, and touching dialog with the audience. Part autobiography, part stand-up, and totally entertaining. See it if you have the chance; you won't be disappointed.
