Winnipeg Jets History

The Winnipeg Jets were founded in 1997 as the Thrashers, and began play in the 1999–2000 NHL season, spending 11 seasons in Atlanta and making the playoffs once in 2006-2007. In 2011, the franchise was sold to True North Sports and Entertainment, which relocated the team to Winnipeg and adopted the name of the city's original franchise in the World Hockey Association, the Jets.

Major league hockey dates back to 1972 in Winnipeg, which was home to one of the founding franchises of the WHA and one of four (along with Quebec, Hartford and Edmonton) to join the NHL when the leagues merged in 1979. The original Jets moved to Phoenix in 1996 and became the Phoenix Coyotes (then the Arizona Coyotes, who were in play from 1994 to 2024). In the 14 seasons that the Jets have been in Winnipeg, they’ve made eight playoff appearances, including a run to the Western Conference Finals in 2018.Β

In 2016, the team established the Winnipeg Jets Hall of Fame, with the "Hot Line" trio of Anders Hedberg, Bobby Hull and Ulf Nilsson as the inaugural inductees. Recent inductees include Teemu SelΓ€nne and Teppo Numminen.

  • Awesome environment and hockey game with our Grandson Brady

by Buddy on 3/19/23Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

Purchased three of the souvenir pucks but didn’t get a golden one . Our Grandsin is a diehard BB fan and that was he first time he saw them play.

  • Our first NHL live game

An awesome experience I like this game so much. As a newcomer it was our first live NHL game

  • A great night although room for better.

by Rex on 1/31/23Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 3 out of 5

Appreciated the pregame 6.00 beer special, although I feel that you shouldn't need to pay more than 10.00 for any premium brand draft or craft beer. Over 12.00 is way too much, and leaves a bad feeling of overpricing. I also don't participate in the 50/50 now that the options are 1 for 10.00 or 10 for 20.00. And now that they are sold to online to people not even at the game takes away from knowing that the winning ticket will be someone in attendance at the game. Often the winning ticket numbers aren't even close to the ones purchased at the game.

  • Jets vs the Flyers

by country guy on 1/31/23Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 3 out of 5

Canadalife center is a real nice venue. The Jets game is fun even though they really played terrible and couldn't score a goal. The negatives. I don't mind a venue making some profit but how is $3 for water, $8 for a medium popcorn and $13 for a can of beer not price gouging? I can buy the same beer at a restaurant for $5-6 and they're making money. People bring in kids so don't bend them over on overpriced food. I go to a game once a year and it's a real turnoff to attending honestly. For a guy living outside of Winnipeg not getting to Canadalife center and downtown in general very often a bit clearer signage to parking with maybe heading N, S, E and West would help. You leave the game in the dark so you have little to no sense of direction when leaving in a crowd of thousands. My wife and I made a wrong turn trying to get back to our car and had to navigate back against the flow. Real frustrating experience which doesn't make me want to rush back. Might be no big deal for season ticket holders who go often but for us it was not a good experience trying to navigate the maze of tunnels, stairs and walkways when you're not familiar with the area.

  • Amazing

by Kayla on 1/31/23Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

Would definitely go again, love seeing this team play even when they don’t have there best offensive game they always play aggressively.

  • Better then expected

by Rosie on 1/31/23Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

So the wife and I decided last minute to go to game, we got tickets from ticket master and booked a hotel beside the arena. The people(jets fans) were very friendly and we had no issues wearing the visitors colors. First time at the jets arena and it was very well organized and easy to get around.

  • Very entertaining loved it

  • Teeth Vibrating

by Rock on 1/9/23Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 2 out of 5

The few minutes leading up to pick drop, especially the fellow with the microphone were loud, obnoxious and irritating. I thought I was going to a hockey game, not a rave. Lose the guy with the microphone and TONE IT DOWN. A LOT. The whole pre-game experience made me reconsider going to another Jets game. Which is sad.

The secure tickets to my electronic wallet works very well and gives me peace of mind that my seats are waiting for me. And it was the best game I've ever seen. Wonderful evening

  • Almost

by Johnny K on 1/1/23Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

Unfortunately we only saw the warmups, wife was involved in an accident a few blocks from the stadium and we had to leave the game before puck drop. My wife had bought the tickets for mine (Dec 29) and grandsons birthday (Nov 26). We had travelled 6 hours from Balcarres, Saskatchewan for the game. Vehicle was totalled and our oldest daughter came from Regina the morning Dec 30 to pick us up and drive back to Sask. it has been a goal of ours to attend an NHL game per year as Grandpa, Son in law and grandson. Very appreciative of the staff and employees of Canada Life Center in assisting us with a speedy exit on our way to the accident scene. Bumps and bruises, but everyone is ok.

  • I had a great experience at the game!

by Danine on 1/1/23Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

My husband and grandkids were in box seats and I wanted to sit close. I had a single seat and the price was great. The seating area was very clean. I would have liked to sit with my family but it was still okay. I liked the indigenous land acknowledgment and as an indigenous woman felt comfortable there. We got close parking which was also nice. Plus, the jets won!
