Winnipeg Jets History

The Winnipeg Jets were founded in 1997 as the Thrashers, and began play in the 1999–2000 NHL season, spending 11 seasons in Atlanta and making the playoffs once in 2006-2007. In 2011, the franchise was sold to True North Sports and Entertainment, which relocated the team to Winnipeg and adopted the name of the city's original franchise in the World Hockey Association, the Jets.

Major league hockey dates back to 1972 in Winnipeg, which was home to one of the founding franchises of the WHA and one of four (along with Quebec, Hartford and Edmonton) to join the NHL when the leagues merged in 1979. The original Jets moved to Phoenix in 1996 and became the Phoenix Coyotes (then the Arizona Coyotes, who were in play from 1994 to 2024). In the 14 seasons that the Jets have been in Winnipeg, they’ve made eight playoff appearances, including a run to the Western Conference Finals in 2018.

In 2016, the team established the Winnipeg Jets Hall of Fame, with the "Hot Line" trio of Anders Hedberg, Bobby Hull and Ulf Nilsson as the inaugural inductees. Recent inductees include Teemu Selänne and Teppo Numminen.

  • Jets vs colorado

by John on 12/3/22Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

The experience was good no issues or concerns. Only thing I would like to recommend is that when I purchase a ticket I would like to actually pick my seat as well as the row. I don’t like being randomly assigned to a seat in a row.

  • Great night

by Kjscott on 12/2/22Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

Was a great game . Jets kicked Colorado’s butts and true north provided great entertainment

  • Teemu &Teppo Tribute

by Ewok Journey on 11/21/22Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

Awesome! Special Tribute for Teemu and Teppo was certainly a memory that I will remember for their contribution to our team and city. Crowd applause and energy throughout the proceedings and game was infectious.

  • Game was fantastic!

by Matchamomma on 11/20/22Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

The on ice product is great! However the pre game & intermission atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired. Having to yell over your DJ in the atrium to try & converse with my husband is ridiculous. You have to scream at the bartenders to place your orders. Absolutely terrible!!!

  • HOF Night of Nights

by Jet Fan Forever on 11/20/22Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

We were very pleased to be able to attend the HOF induction night for Teemu and Teppo. Teemu for sure is very loved by all in this city. He is a kind individual and any time you run into him he always makes time for his fans. Thanks to True North for continuing this wonderful tradition in honoring these players and bringing back wonderful memories for many fans. The game was secondary here but we were very excited with the KFC hat trick and another win for the Jets.

  • Great event

Was awesome to see 2 more players enter the Jets hall of fame . Teemu and Teppo are classic.

It was so much fun. I had a good time watching my favourite players and happy that our Filipino community were recognized and were able to help to the success of the event

  • We had a great time.

by Fils on 11/11/22Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

Filipino Heritage Night was a huge winner, from the game itself, to the excitement in the building, to the brilliant light show in ethnic Filipino colours and patterns, to the wonderful choir singing. Great show by True North

  • Ticket purchase, and redemption electronically perfect

by Cricklewood on 11/8/22Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

  • Absolutely wonderful!

The game was a fantastic experience & time flew by! Can’t wait to go again!

  • Too Much Rap Music

by PJ on 10/19/22Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 3 out of 5

Great pregame live music in hall ways, best ever singing of National Anthems, good game, positive fan base and fan support but too much rap music during game. You are not recruiting new fans by pushing too much rap music on your mixed aged fan base. Better get to know your loyal supporters or you may lose more of them. The product on the ice is very good.

  • Decent

by Frenchie on 10/17/22Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 3 out of 5

You gotta fix the seats! Way to small for people’s butts. I’m practically married to stranger beside me as we touched more in 3 hours than anyone else I ever have.

  • Great Home Opener

    by Superjen01 on 10/17/22Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

Seats were great, atmosphere was electrifying and the players looked amazing. Concession prices a bit steep, but it’s part of the experience I suppose!

  • Home opener is always a great time!

by Darrow on 10/17/22Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

Great seats, food and drink. Go Jets Go! Alcohol is way too expensive here but it’s always a great time

  • Way too loud

by Ola on 10/8/22Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 3 out of 5

If you enjoy hockey it must mean you enjoy hard techno music at 100 db volume I thought i was going to a hockey game not a techno music concert

  • It was a great experience!

by Melanie on 10/4/22Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

Great parking inside (a bit pricey but was willing to pay for convenience). Enjoyed supper at Boston Pizza and then proceeded to smooth/seamless entry into bldg and our seats. Enjoyed the game!

  • LOUD MUSIC

by Markeye on 5/5/22Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

The game was great BUT the music was so LOUD I couldn't talk to my brother that sat beside him.

  • Trouble with tickets

by Joe on 5/2/22Canada Life Centre - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

I was emailed the tickets and forwarded it to my wife so that she could access it at the game but when we got there she didn't have the right password. We eventually got in and it was before the start of the game. The people there helped a lot.
