About

Willie Nelson is one of the most successful country music singer-songwriters in history, releasing 68 studio albums and 10 live albums. He wrote his first song at the age of seven and joined his first band at ten, playing concerts as a lead singer and guitar player while still in high school. He spent the ‘50s and ‘60s writing songs for established acts such as Ray Price and Patsy Cline, as well as releasing a string of albums on Liberty and RCA beginning with his debut …And Then I Wrote in 1962. In 1973, he signed to Atlantic Records and put out Shotgun Willie, which veered into outlaw country, a stark contrast from the mainstream Nashville sound and clean-cut country artists of the era. 1975’s Red Headed Stranger and 1978’s Stardust followed on Columbia Records, both garnering commercial and critical success. The ‘80s saw the release of No. 1 albums Honeysuckle Rose, Somewhere Over The Rainbow, Always on My Mind, and The Promiseland, as well as Nelson joining Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson in the country supergroup The Highwaymen, touring and releasing three studio albums between 1985 and 1995. Nelson continues to release a new album almost every year and delight ticket buyers in live shows to this day.

  • It was a Perfect Night!

by Florida flew to Michigan on 9/18/24Pine Knob Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 5 out of 5

I flew to Michigan specifically to see this concert. John Mellencamp was a treat. He sang his well known songs and got the crowd pumped and in the mood for the fun. The venue is an absolute delight! I have always loved how quaint and accommodating Pine Knob Amphitheater is to visit. The food is great, the atmosphere is calming and the staff are extremely nice. When Willie Nelson came out the crowd went wild. He is a National Treasure. He was entertaining, sweet and gracious to his fans. You can tell he loves what he does and appreciates those who come to sing along with him. OVERALL it was a Fantastic Experience for both me and my mom. Well Done ... We'll be back!! - Melissa

  • Not the best

by The professor on 9/18/24Pine Knob Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 3 out of 5

Mellencamp’s voice was shot .. Dylan was very uneven couldn’t articulate well. Willie was sick but at least could sing. Not worth what it cost,

  • Love Music

by Roch on 9/18/24Pine Knob Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 4 out of 5

I was pleasantly surprised on the new look. It has been awhile since I attended a concert here. The bathroom lady was awesome and moved the high lines so fast. She needs a raise. Lots of help which was nice! All the groups were good except Bob Dylan too long to get out there and couldn’t understand what he was singing plus I don’t like his new direction. Willie kicked butt. His voice has so much clarity. The other performers were also very good!

  • Epic!!

by TMK on 9/18/24Pine Knob Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 5 out of 5

Absolutely Amazing!! We were celebrating my sister's 60th birthday and she has always wanted to see Willie Nelson. He did not disappoint. I was in awe. I couldn't believe he was actually there in front of us singing. I've listened to his songs my whole life. Thank you Willie, Love you and your music.

  • Great night

by Angie on 9/18/24Pine Knob Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 5 out of 5

It was a great concert from everyone, Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, John Mellencamp and the opening act Southern Ave. 3 people that were on my husband’s and mine’s bucket lists!! First time at Pine Knob and really enjoyed the experience.

  • Show was a little too long

by Marco on 9/18/24Pine Knob Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 4 out of 5

We arrived at 3:15 after warnings about traffic. We planned to have some food and drinks before the show. But we did not have to be there early. The opening act started about 5:20 and they were good, high energy. Then the usual wait while the stage was reset for each act. Mellencamp was good. Tight set and band. Dylan was a disappointment. Not what I expected . Sentiment shared by many around us. Several of the songs he played that were his were unrecognizable until several sentences in, due to mumbled vocals. And for some reason there were no closeups on the 2 screens. So we could not see him. Then the usual time to set Willie’s set. I think he started about 9:50. He was great. They did did do closeups so it was great to see him and his guitar playing. Unfortunately about 10:30 people started to leave. I think it was just too long overall. Could have shortened it by leaving out the opening act.

  • Great line up, just the wrong order of performances.

by Happycamper on 9/18/24Pine Knob Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 4 out of 5

The show started up with so much enthusiasm from Southern Avenue and John Mellencamp, but then hit a lull with Bob Dylan. Then by the time Willie came on, we were so happy to see and listen to him Jam ! He plays that ol' guitar like a teenager. He sounded great too. We just wish he didn't come on so late... On a beautiful summer day, I would have loved the show to have started earlier, like 3pm-9pm. My opinion would be to have Bob Dylan open, then as the line up continues, it gets more and more pumped up as we await Willie to play! I noticed a lot of elder folks leaving during Dylan's performance. If it started earlier, with Dylan at the beginning, I'd say that would have been the perfect show. Thank you.

  • It was rough

by MissKEA on 9/18/24Pine Knob Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 2 out of 5

Sadly, John Mellencamp sounded very horse! I have seen him before just a year ago and he sounded terrific. Cannot understand one word that Bob Dylan sang. Willie Nelson actually sounded the best and could really still play his guitar but he too seemed to struggle. At 72, 83 and 91 maybe they should just retire and enjoy themselves.

  • Excellent!

by Pat on 9/18/24Pine Knob Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 5 out of 5

All 4 performances were great! I was a little confused with the first band. Did not know them. I don't know if I was the only one who didn't get the memo that Robert Plant and Alison Krauss wouldn't be playing. Instead, it was a band from Memphis (?). They were very, very good. Willie was a little weak in the beginning but as the set went on, true excellence. Can't believe we were lucky enough to see him!

  • Willie was awesome

by Peewee on 9/18/24Pine Knob Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 5 out of 5

Seen Willie in the 80’s and of course older now but he is still great!!!! Sang, played the guitar n interacted with crowd. Loved him❤️❤️

  • Where’s the camera person?

by Lynn on 9/18/24Pine Knob Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 3 out of 5

Opening act was AMAZING! Southern Avenue really brought the goods to Pine Knob. We had lawn tickets because we really like the whole vibe there and there was plenty of great camera work and close-ups on all the monitors. Then came Mellencamp and Dylan. The camera never moved. It was locked onto the stage and it NEVER moved. All we could see were little tiny people. We left before Willie came out because I can listen to his work anywhere and anytime I want. I CAME TO SEE THE ARTISTS and never really saw them. C’mon, Pine Knob…give the lawn people a better view of what they paid for. We feel cheated.

  • Great time!

by Jay on 9/18/24Pine Knob Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 5 out of 5

I had a great time listening to excellent music in a terrific environment. The musicians performed wonderfully, and we enjoyed all of them. John Mellencamp is one of my all-time favorites, and Willie Nelson's singing and playing was amazing at the age of 90. We had a great time.

  • Worst concert

by Thewhitewitchone on 9/18/24Pine Knob Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 2 out of 5

I love Mellencamp, but I felt he did not put his all into this performance at all. It was also too short. Bob Dylan is not my cup of tea and he was on the stage way too long. We only stayed for two of Willie Nelson‘s songs, but they were both horrible. Sound quality was awful. You could hardly hear him sing, and he just looked feeble. This is up there with one of the worst concerts I’ve ever been to

  • Willie Nelson Family

by Lucky on 9/18/24Pine Knob Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 4 out of 5

This was my second experience seeing Willie and it just gets better everytime

  • Not great

by Concerter on 9/18/24Pine Knob Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 2 out of 5

Mellencamp was a good performance. Bob Dylan was horrible. Reading words from a notebook. Music so loud you could hardly hear him mumble. Time to retire Bob. Sorry to be so harsh but we ended up leaving early being very disappointed.

  • Great time! Very impressed with Willie Nelson

by Blazenlade on 9/18/24Pine Knob Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 5 out of 5

We were very impressed with Willie Nelson, him being 91 years old and still being able to pick guitar is wonderful. The other bands were great also. Glad we went had a great time.

  • A wonderful night of music!

by JN on 9/18/24Pine Knob Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 5 out of 5

All the bands were great. The staff was amazing and the venue was clean and comfortable.

  • Willie was great Bob was not

by Donald on 9/18/24Pine Knob Music Theatre - ClarkstonRating: 4 out of 5

Was very impressed with Willies performance. He played and sounded GREAT and played all the songs we wanted to hear! I was disappointed in Bob Dylan. He did not play well and played WAY TO LONG. I've always been a huge fan of his but left very disappointed. John Mellencamp put on a great show but Jack & Diane was almost unrecognizable. Wasn't even in the same cadence?!? Had never heard of Southern Avenue before and was VERY impressed. A very unique mix of blues and pop. They are definitely going places.

  • Age is just a Number!!!
