About

Willie Nelson is one of the most successful country music singer-songwriters in history, releasing 68 studio albums and 10 live albums. He wrote his first song at the age of seven and joined his first band at ten, playing concerts as a lead singer and guitar player while still in high school. He spent the ‘50s and ‘60s writing songs for established acts such as Ray Price and Patsy Cline, as well as releasing a string of albums on Liberty and RCA beginning with his debut …And Then I Wrote in 1962. In 1973, he signed to Atlantic Records and put out Shotgun Willie, which veered into outlaw country, a stark contrast from the mainstream Nashville sound and clean-cut country artists of the era. 1975’s Red Headed Stranger and 1978’s Stardust followed on Columbia Records, both garnering commercial and critical success. The ‘80s saw the release of No. 1 albums Honeysuckle Rose, Somewhere Over The Rainbow, Always on My Mind, and The Promiseland, as well as Nelson joining Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson in the country supergroup The Highwaymen, touring and releasing three studio albums between 1985 and 1995. Nelson continues to release a new album almost every year and delight ticket buyers in live shows to this day.

    WILLIE STILL ROCKS!

by ODABEATLES on 7/14/09Horseshoe Southern Indiana - Elizabeth

Having been a Willie Nelson fan for a long time I was very excited to see him in person for the first time at Horseshoe Casino. He was as good as I hoped. He doesn't have the voice for singing that he did when he was younger but the true fans that were there understand that he is 74 years old and is still amazing! The crowd showed their love for him. And if his voice is weaker you cannot say the same for his guitar playing! He can rock an acoustic guitar like no one else. Loved it!! If you get a chance to go see this living legend you will definitely get your money's worth.

    Damn Good Show

by outlaw3c on 7/14/09Horseshoe Southern Indiana - Elizabeth

76 years old and the man still puts on one of the best shows!!! he came out started playing and kept on playing without a break for alittle over a hour and a half. horseshoe casino has a great venue and the crowd is not to rowdy, the beers are a good price @ $6 for a 16 oz. beer, normally you cant even find 12 oz. for that. They have hotdog and hamburger vendors out there.... then afterwards you can walk to the casino which is a great time in itself. A summer show @ horseshoe casino in Indiana i would give it 5 stars, and highly recommend it!!!

Willie Nelson was exactly what we expected!

by Mightywriter on 7/14/09Horseshoe Southern Indiana - Elizabeth

Willie's concert was an hour and a half of one hit after another without much fuss in the middle. He walked out on stage without an introduction, picked up his guitar, waved at the crowd, and started singing. He wore old, dirty clothes, and the rest of his band looked like they just came off of the farm as well. He was not shaven in any way, and he looked like he had just had a nap. With all this said, he was exactly what we expected-the same Willie his fans have come to love and enjoy, with a voice to match. It was a beautiful evening; everything was well-organized, and the stage was big and well-lit. All in all, I would recommend the summer concert series at Horseshoe to anyone. A fun time was had by all, and everyone would have stayed another hour to hear even more of his greatest hits.

My father and I drove from Eastlake to Youngstown to see Willie Nelson. It was worth the drive. The audience was very interactive and the band was great.

    Willie Does Youngstown

by Canfieldcowboy on 7/13/09Covelli Centre (formerly Chevrolet Centre) - Youngstown

The Willie Nelson show was an event to remember. While I personally do not own any of his music, he is a true American Icon and the show was excellent. For a man in his senventies to play for a solid two hours was incredbile. He also went out of his way to pose for a good photo shot anytime he noticed a fan approach the stage with a camera. Well done Willie!

Willie is "Always on my Mind"

    by love09 on 7/13/09Vogue Theatre - Indianapolis

Willie at the Vogue in Indy...was a great show. Willie preformed a variety of favorites. We loved that the show was a Non-Smoking venue. The one downfall was the first come first serve seating or standing in our case, espically for someone my size of 5'4"! Overall, a good experience.

Willie - an angel flying too close to the ground!

by HarleyMomma on 7/13/09The Blue Note - Columbia

This was the 4th time that I've seen Willie - and he just keeps getting better! I have to admit that I was hesitant about the street concert venue, but it was a perfect fit for him and his 'homestyle' brand of music. Columbia was a small town that offered hotel, restaraunts, bars, etc., all within walking distance of the concert - yes, even for us older people! It was a wonderful time. I can't wait to see Willie again ... and again!
