About

Willie Nelson is one of the most successful country music singer-songwriters in history, releasing 68 studio albums and 10 live albums. He wrote his first song at the age of seven and joined his first band at ten, playing concerts as a lead singer and guitar player while still in high school. He spent the ‘50s and ‘60s writing songs for established acts such as Ray Price and Patsy Cline, as well as releasing a string of albums on Liberty and RCA beginning with his debut …And Then I Wrote in 1962. In 1973, he signed to Atlantic Records and put out Shotgun Willie, which veered into outlaw country, a stark contrast from the mainstream Nashville sound and clean-cut country artists of the era. 1975’s Red Headed Stranger and 1978’s Stardust followed on Columbia Records, both garnering commercial and critical success. The ‘80s saw the release of No. 1 albums Honeysuckle Rose, Somewhere Over The Rainbow, Always on My Mind, and The Promiseland, as well as Nelson joining Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson in the country supergroup The Highwaymen, touring and releasing three studio albums between 1985 and 1995. Nelson continues to release a new album almost every year and delight ticket buyers in live shows to this day.

    It was vintage Willie Nelson

by theranman on 7/13/09The Blue Note - Columbia

It was classic Willie Nelson. He played all the old favorites(still opens and closes with Whiskey River). And he played a lot of obscure music which I knew but didn't get alot of radio play. His shows are always non stop and the only two things that I would take issue with is that some people were having too good a time and making it uncomfortable for others around them and that the show only lasted for 1-1/2 hours where when any other time I've seen Willie which is probably 15 other times his shows usually go for 2-1/2 to 3 hours. His lead guitarist Jody Payne wasn't with them that evening so I don't know if that had anything to do with it. Overall, if you like Willie Nelson the show was absolutely outstanding.

    Amazing show!

by clipship on 7/13/09Vogue Theatre - Indianapolis

Willie was awesome and still an entertainer. Of course, he is still an old pervert (in the best sense of the word) because he aimed his bandannas at the pretty little girls near the front.

First time I had seen him. I know he is no spring chicken but he just seemed to be going through the motions.

Up close and personal with Willie Nelson!

by Bevie on 7/12/09The Blue Note - Columbia

By standing in line for only an hour, my group was able to get in early enough to get very close to the stage. It was great to see Willie, wrinkles, gray hair and all, up close and personal. Willie is a showman and made the audience feel that he saw and appreciated each and every one of them. To make a longtime fan feel as if Willie blew a kiss straight to you is a wonderful feeling. My best concert experience ever.

    Willie Wasn't On It

by PipelineJoe on 7/12/09Vogue Theatre - Indianapolis

Being twenty feet from Willie on stage was wonderful. He gave a good but not inspired performance. He seemed somewhat tired but did play well to the audience. "Blue Eyes Smiling in the Rain" was missing (one of my favorites) and some of the other favorites were shortened versions. Overall, I would go back to see Willie anywhere, but I think this was somewhat of an "off" night for him.

    Willie's still got it!

by lilp on 7/12/09Vogue Theatre - Indianapolis

Willie may have mellowed slightly, he's still wild! The show was an hour and half long. Shorter than I expected, but he's 76, he managed to play most ever song you would expect. he rocked out on guitar from beginning to end. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

    Willie was the Best

by Wblovebug on 7/12/09The Blue Note - Columbia

I just recently watched Willie's concert in Columbia, Mo. The concert was put on by a local club called the Blue Note right in the middle of the street. I have loved Willie my entire life so I was stoked to be able to be in the second row even though the tickets were all general admission. The concert was tuly fabulous. Willie played for hours and not one minute of the concert was less than exciting. Honestly, he was better at this concert than one I had seen him at ten years ago..

    Willie Nelson- an icon

by anonymouse on 7/11/09Covelli Centre (formerly Chevrolet Centre) - Youngstown

Willie was wonderful. We don't go to concerts but this was a must see for us. After all how long can he last? We enjoyed the venue and the choice of music and the overall energy of the event. Only downside was the rude woman behind us talking on her cell phone during most of the concert even after we asked to not too.

    Amazing Willie

by Mutly on 7/11/09Covelli Centre (formerly Chevrolet Centre) - Youngstown

I caught WIllie in Youngstown at the Covelli Center. It was my first time seeing Willie and it was absolutely incredible. His voice was pristine. It was the first show since the passing of Willie's stage manager of 34 years, Poodie Locke. I think he gave 200% in honor of him. Willie stated on his website that he swore he saw Poodie wearing his angel wings at the end of the show.

    disappointing

by johnnysebring on 7/11/09Covelli Centre (formerly Chevrolet Centre) - Youngstown

I wanted to see Willie because he's such a legend in country music. I know he's getting older, but I was dissappointed in the songs....he no longer has the voice range: unable to hit higher octaves, all the songs sounded the same......

    musician's musician

by 1950 on 7/11/09Covelli Centre (formerly Chevrolet Centre) - Youngstown

What a pleasure to watch and listen to such a wonderful artist. Little is written or discussed about what a fabulous guitar player Willie is. HIs gracefull imaginative playing mermerized me. Oh don't get me wrong, he sang, rocked and twinkled with his usual enchanting charm. He gives the audience a great show and great music. What struck me this night, like never before, is what a great player he is and has become. His music is not any one genre, he is country surely, but blues, jazz, soul is right there with it. I am going to see him again tonight as he preforms with two other "stars". No doubt about it though Willie will be the best "player' on stage. He is pure musical pleasure.
