About

WICKED, the Broadway sensation, looks at what happened in the Land of Oz…but from a different angle.  Long before Dorothy arrives, there is another girl, born with emerald-green skin—smart, fiery, misunderstood, and possessing an extraordinary talent. When she meets a bubbly blonde who is exceptionally popular, their initial rivalry turns into the unlikeliest of friendships…until the world decides to call one “good,” and the other one “wicked.”

With a thrilling score that includes the hits “Defying Gravity,” “Popular” and “For Good,” WICKED has been hailed by The New York Times as “the defining musical of the decade.” Time Magazine cheers, “if every musical had the brain, the heart, and the courage of WICKED, Broadway really would be a magical place.”

From the first electrifying note to the final breathtaking moment, WICKED—the untold true story of the Witches of Oz—transfixes audiences with its wildly inventive story. It will send your spirits soaring to heights you’ll never forget.

  • Great Show - Venue Needs Some Help

by TJ on 5/29/24DeVos Performance Hall - Grand RapidsRating: 4 out of 5

Wicked was amazing! I saw this show at DeVos Place in Grand Rapids, MI Why do they have to supply such noisy snacks at a show that should have a quiet audience? All I heard was candy wrappers opening and water bottles crinkling. Also, a five minute warning announced in and out of the lobby areas for when intermission is almost over would help. Once the second act started there were a lot of people opening the side doors to get back in and light and commotion was very distracting. Then between scenes when everyone was rushing to sit back down it was noisy and hard to hear and see the beginning of the second scene. If there was a warning, people could have time to get back to their seats before the show restarts. Show? Amazing! Venue? Needs help.

  • Review from Music Professional

by Vyse on 5/28/24DeVos Performance Hall - Grand RapidsRating: 3 out of 5

This is a very tough review. I want to start by stating that overall I still really enjoyed the performance. Also, I would have left a 3.7 review if the same were possible, so I do not believe it was as low as a 3. Two main Issues: 1) Balance was a constant struggle. Mid-low voices were often overshadowed. The words sung at low volume levels sometimes would be covered up by the pit. The balance of the pit was a huge concern - it just wasn't there most of the night. Another issue with this is so many electronic instruments made it tough to balance. Flute/Piccolo intonation at times was a glaring issue. 2) Using electronic instruments in place of brass instruments was a huge disappointment. It just simply wasn't as powerful and left goosebumps on the table. This was a big disappointment and one of the things that really made this the least memorable performance. Elphaba was phenominal, though.

  • Awesome Evening

Wicked is a great story- the music & dancing was beautiful! I’ve seen it before but it was like I hadn’t seen it before 😃. I’m sure that’s an age thing! The sets, costumes, orchestra & actors were amazing! Great job!!! It was a wonderful evening.

Great production. Loved it‼️🌪️ Superb singing and acting.

  • Sound Issues

by JCB on 5/28/24DeVos Performance Hall - Grand RapidsRating: 2 out of 5

The sound was horrible. The music was louder than the performance and we could not understand a word they were saying other than when the music was not being played. We were highly disappointed in the entire ordeal.

  • Honest Gushing Review!

by MusicTheatre1 on 5/28/24DeVos Performance Hall - Grand RapidsRating: 5 out of 5

What an incredible show! I was originally concerned because Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel have such beautiful and distinctive voices. But this show did *not* disappoint! Lauren Samuels was so incredible! Dead on, powerful, beautiful! And Austen Danielle Bohmer may not sound exactly like @KChenoweth (only one woman does), she actually sounds a bit more like Amy Adams, and it just works! Excellent singing and acting, both. The dancers and flying monkeys! WOW! such great athleticism and grace! Stellar job! Such a great show *and* production! Thank you. (Devos Hall was a great place for it as well, even if I did get a little lost getting to my seats. That was more my fault than the venue)

  • One of the absolute best musicals around!

by Amazing from start to finish! on 5/28/24DeVos Performance Hall - Grand RapidsRating: 5 out of 5

Saw Wicked once in high-school about 16 years ago. I thought then that this was one of the best musicals. This new cast is phenomenal and solidifies my original thought.

  • Amazing

by Clare on 5/28/24DeVos Performance Hall - Grand RapidsRating: 5 out of 5

Absolutely amazing storytelling, characters, comedy, and drama. The songs were catchy, the characters stayed true to the feel of the original Oz story (love that they used silver shoes like in the book, too). Definitely would watch again.

Our family had always heard good things about Wicked, but it wasn't until we saw it in person that we knew it was more than good, it was AMAZING! The special effects, music, vocals, costumes, everything just blew our minds! We absolutely loved it and are still talking about it! Go see this show!

  • Fun show

by Alarickp on 5/27/24DeVos Performance Hall - Grand RapidsRating: 4 out of 5

The show was good, had some comedy, drama, and suspense. Some great performances. The sound when the full cast was singing became distorted and difficult to understand. Overall very good show though.
