Whoopi Goldberg on Tour

For all her achievements in theater, movies and television, Whoopi Goldberg has never lost her reverence for the connections she forges with audiences at her reliably outrageous stand-up performances.

Her appearance in November, 2019 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City marked another milestone for a performer who first came to wider attention with Whoopi Goldberg, the one-woman stage show she brought to Broadway with the help of director Mike Nichols in 1984. The acclaim for her skills drew the notice of Steven Spielberg, who cast her in the lead role of The Color Purple. Goldberg's Academy Award nomination led to her successful run in a huge variety of dramas and comedies, including such smash hits as Ghost in 1990 and Sister Act two years later.

Her forays into television include her Emmy-winning run as executive producer and resident "center square" personality on her revival of the game show Hollywood Squares. Never afraid to share her views, Goldberg continues to elicit laughs and provoke thoughts as the moderator of ABC's The View.

In March of 2019, she appeared at New York's Beacon Theatre as cohost for Love Rocks NYC, the star-studded annual benefit for the nonprofit organization God's Love We Deliver.

Whoopi Goldberg Background

Born and raised in New York, Whoopi Goldberg caught the performing bug at an early age. Her first audiences were the relatives who gave Goldberg her distinctive nickname, comparing the aspiring comedian to a whoopee cushion.

Her years studying comedy and theater in California and New York led to the development of the characters who filled her first stage hit, which was named The Spook Show before she and director Mike Nichols brought it to Broadway as Whoopi Goldberg in 1984. In 1985, she earned an Academy Award nomination for her first major screen role, in Steven Spielberg's The Color Purple. That launched a movie career that has included such beloved films as Ghost, Sister Act and The Lion King.

Among her television credits are her groundbreaking talk show The Whoopi Goldberg Show and the Emmy-nominated NBC sitcom Whoopi. Her Emmy-winning revival of Hollywood Squares ran from 1998 to 2004. In 2007, she joined Barbara Walters on ABC's The View as the show's new moderator.

One of America's most decorated performers, Goldberg is among the few to win an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony. Her other honors include two Golden Globes, a Drama Desk Award, two American Comedy Awards, the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor and a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame.

  • Whoopi was on point!!!!

This was my first time seeing Whoopi in person and I was really blown away. She is just as funny in person as she is on television. I love her on The View and after seeing her Stand Up I love her even more. I liked her professionalism in the way she handled the audience when she allowed them to ask questions that became mostly comments and not questions. Everyone if you ever get a chance to see her don't hesistate to do it you will not be disappointed. Get your laugh on with Whoopi.

the tickets were 55$ plus fees, for that we had an hour and maybe 10 min for Ms. Goldberg. after that we were treated to questions from various drunk, high or equally unintertaining individuals at the mic. That is not at all what I expected but one lives and learns. I would not see her or recommend this to anyone else. :(((

  • Goldberg ends flat

by DMJPYBCFC on 4/20/15Sound Board at MotorCity Casino Hotel - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

First half of the show was excellent; she was very funny. But the second half of audience supposedly asking questions was a total bore and waste of time (many people left) as all questioners seemed to want to do was talk about themselves. Doesnt she have enough material for a complete show?

  • One half was great!

by BretJ on 4/20/15Sound Board at MotorCity Casino Hotel - DetroitRating: 3 out of 5

The first half, when Whoopi actually spoke, it was great. But then she opened it up fo questions and all we heard was "We love Whoopi", :we loved Color Purple", we love you on view, you make the show". Very few people asked any questions, but those that actually did, Whoopi had some great comebacks. That half was painful to sit through. We sat though it thinking perhaps it will get better, but it didn't. Skip the Q&A Whoopi, it doesn't work well. So the star rating is 5 for the first half and 1 for the second, so an average of 3. Definitely for adults only, do not bring the kids.

  • Disappointed

by estonsgirl56 on 4/20/15Sound Board at MotorCity Casino Hotel - DetroitRating: 2 out of 5

I still love Whoopi but I was disappointed overall with her show. The material she used was funny, but not new, and then she let the audience ask her questions for about 45 minutes! Not what I paid to hear! Of course people got up and rambled on, telling their life stories before getting to a question. And then their questions were so unoriginal and old. Felt like she knows she is famous enough to draw a crowd and then just talked about getting old, asked audience for questions, and then done.

  • 1st Half Great

by 78373 on 3/28/15L'Auberge Casino Resort Lake Charles - Lake CharlesRating: 4 out of 5

The first half of the show as some of the funniest jokes/stories/monologue I've ever heard. I laughed until tears were shed. I only wished I had left at that point. Whoopi shifted gears and invited the audience to ask her questions. This at times descended into anarchy. Most of the participation consisted of people asking to shake hands or for pictures. The few serious questions were hardly worth the wait. Why did I stay? I was waiting for one more gem. I would gladly go again. I would now know when to leave.

  • Great show

by Amigobrd on 3/25/15L'Auberge Casino Resort Lake Charles - Lake CharlesRating: 5 out of 5

She was great, I was so excited to see her because I watch her on the View all the time. Was really impressed with her ending, allowing anybody who wanted to shake her hand or offer comments to come and do so... was really impressed with this part of her show.

  • Masterful comedian

by Riere on 3/24/15L'Auberge Casino Resort Lake Charles - Lake CharlesRating: 5 out of 5

Whoopi is masterful at controlling a crowd. She senses her audience, communicates what her intent is, deals with hecklers and those who have obviously had TOO MUCH to drink. That is what I like about her. Her routine was based on her current life prospective. Too funny. I've grown up with her and recently found out that I am a few years OLDER than she! LOL. Wish she were a friend.

Have never seen Whoopi live before and I found her show to be excellent. Her insights were very apt and precise, her storytelling first-rate! Had a wonderful time.

  • Whoop! Whoop!

by KaeSavGa on 10/14/14The Grand Theater at Foxwoods Resort Casino - MashantucketRating: 4 out of 5

Got rerouted to other seats because show was undersold, but not complaining. Seats were not any better or any worse. Whoopi was Whoopi v.2014. I fell in love with Whoopi v.198*, and love her older comedy and movies. Current audience seemed to want "The View" version of Whoopi. Just geting to see Whoopi -in whatever format- was a great birthday present to me from me! :)

  • Whoopi Rocks!
