Whoopi Goldberg on Tour
For all her achievements in theater, movies and television, Whoopi Goldberg has never lost her reverence for the connections she forges with audiences at her reliably outrageous stand-up performances.
Her appearance in November, 2019 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City marked another milestone for a performer who first came to wider attention with Whoopi Goldberg, the one-woman stage show she brought to Broadway with the help of director Mike Nichols in 1984. The acclaim for her skills drew the notice of Steven Spielberg, who cast her in the lead role of The Color Purple. Goldberg's Academy Award nomination led to her successful run in a huge variety of dramas and comedies, including such smash hits as Ghost in 1990 and Sister Act two years later.
Her forays into television include her Emmy-winning run as executive producer and resident "center square" personality on her revival of the game show Hollywood Squares. Never afraid to share her views, Goldberg continues to elicit laughs and provoke thoughts as the moderator of ABC's The View.
In March of 2019, she appeared at New York's Beacon Theatre as cohost for Love Rocks NYC, the star-studded annual benefit for the nonprofit organization God's Love We Deliver.
Whoopi Goldberg Background
Born and raised in New York, Whoopi Goldberg caught the performing bug at an early age. Her first audiences were the relatives who gave Goldberg her distinctive nickname, comparing the aspiring comedian to a whoopee cushion.
Her years studying comedy and theater in California and New York led to the development of the characters who filled her first stage hit, which was named The Spook Show before she and director Mike Nichols brought it to Broadway as Whoopi Goldberg in 1984. In 1985, she earned an Academy Award nomination for her first major screen role, in Steven Spielberg's The Color Purple. That launched a movie career that has included such beloved films as Ghost, Sister Act and The Lion King.
Among her television credits are her groundbreaking talk show The Whoopi Goldberg Show and the Emmy-nominated NBC sitcom Whoopi. Her Emmy-winning revival of Hollywood Squares ran from 1998 to 2004. In 2007, she joined Barbara Walters on ABC's The View as the show's new moderator.
One of America's most decorated performers, Goldberg is among the few to win an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony. Her other honors include two Golden Globes, a Drama Desk Award, two American Comedy Awards, the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor and a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame.
She is incredible. I hope she comes back to Biloxi.
I thought Ms. Goldberg was simply hilarious, she made everyday events funny, yet thought provoking, and bringing main stream media into the focus. I was hoping she would be on stage a little longer, I did arrive a few minutes late, but caught most of the act. I really enjoyed the Q & A session, even though I didn't get to ask my question which is "When is Whoopi favorite things" going to air on "The View" so I can plan my trip. She was so real and down to earth, people related to everything she was saying. I want to go to another show. She has to do another one, I wish I could have met her, she is fascinating. I really really hope she comes again to the coast or New Orleans, La. It was a pleasure to go somewhere with my friends, and really enjoy a good show. I thought it was just amazing!!! And being a woman relating to issues concerning women, was cool!! Whoopi is cool!!!
Going into it I really didn't know what to expect. I wanted the opportunity to see Whoopi in person and that is what I got. I felt like I had gotten a uncut version of the show The View. She basically discussed her views on a few topics...and she was all over the place. She came with no planned material. I may have laughed twice. She was on stage 1 hour and 15 minutes and we paid $63!! No intermission just talked and tried to be funny about her body functions. Very disappointed. Be I can say that I saw Whoopi in person.
Great, loved every minute, funny, entertaining, audience participation, she was aware of every thing going on in the audience, would love to see her again.
Whoopie's performance was funny, informative, and truthful. She is a natural storyteller. She speaks to all audiences no matter what age, race or political perference. She should be the "Speaker Of The House."
i laughed some but didnt think the high price was worth hearing the f word a hundred times and hearing that hey its ok to commit adultery re tiger woods as his wife may not be giving it at home. also immature jokes about farts, urination and of course putting down republicans. also could not even take a picture for fear of camera being taken
I do not go to many live events anymore, but I wanted to be in the same room as Whoopi because the dynamics and energy are different at a live event. I'm glad I went. Whoopi did not disappoint at all. Her personality filled the room. You could feel her vibe and, of course, she was very funny. I enjoyed hearing her views and stories. The only part of the night I didn't care for was the Q&A. It seemed like people were trying to get her to make negative remarks about other women on The View. I'm glad she showed them that just because they may have disagreements over their respective views, does not mean they have to dislike each other. But, then, I wouldn't have expected anything else from Whoopi. Bravo!
I enjoyed the show. It was very entertaining. I laughed so hard I cried. So glad I went
Last night I got to see Whoopi Goldberg in Studio A of the IP Casino and Spa. She was Fresh, her performance is with current politics and she's VERY interactive with her audience. I got to ask her a few questions and she was gracious with her answers. Great show, I'd like to see her again !
This was the first time I'd seen her in person I was very pleased with the show!
The Whoop is hilarious. Her monologue is quite different from the norm of comedians! But she is who she is and explains to you that you are free to leave if you don't care for her use of foul language. But, I think in most instances it made for good comic relief!! Awesome job, Whoop!!! And thanks for coming to Biloxi!!!!!
This was my first "professional" stand up comedy show, so I have nothing to base my comments on other than I was disappointed that the show only lasted about an hour. Whoopi Goldberg is a phenominal talent and "person", I have incredible respect for her. She was Very Funny, she handled the many crowd interuptions with grace and humor.
Whoopi made for a great New Year's Eve!! Highly recommend her show.
I felt like her whole show was nothing but a lecture. It was extremely boring and she wasn't funny at all. I expected some foul language so that wasn't the problem but it was just the constant lecturing. I am just sorry that I had to pay almost $90 with fees and all to be bored to death.
Whoopi's show started out great. She was very funny, but the last 20 minutes of the show totally fizzled out. She didn't seem very prepared for the performance and reviewed her notes a couple of times. I hated the way she ended the show with questions from the audience. I didn't pay to hear unfunny questions. I paid money to see Whoopi perform and make us laugh.
Totally enjoyed her "over fifty" jokes as I can so relate. So she says the F word once in awhile and apparently doesn't like Dick Cheney -- that only makes her more appealing!!
The tickets were a gift. But the person that attended the show, can not stop talking about it. And laughing about it. And keep telling me to bad you weren't there. Next time, I will be there, and they can get their own tickets.
I thought she was pretty funny....I knew she would offer political views and she didnt disappoint. there were a few times where i was really laughing hard.....as she spoke to menopause and other life events. all in all a good night of entertainment
She was up front with her use of the f word. I have watched her many times on the view and know she has a choice of many more words. She insults herself and women of today by not using them.
Perhaps my expectations were too high. I've always wanted to see Whoopi preform live. Now I have. Would I go again. No, and it had nothing to do with the language. It's more about the percentage of being preached to versus laugh outloud comedy. I'm glad I went, I just wouldn't go again.
