Whoopi Goldberg on Tour
For all her achievements in theater, movies and television, Whoopi Goldberg has never lost her reverence for the connections she forges with audiences at her reliably outrageous stand-up performances.
Her appearance in November, 2019 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City marked another milestone for a performer who first came to wider attention with Whoopi Goldberg, the one-woman stage show she brought to Broadway with the help of director Mike Nichols in 1984. The acclaim for her skills drew the notice of Steven Spielberg, who cast her in the lead role of The Color Purple. Goldberg's Academy Award nomination led to her successful run in a huge variety of dramas and comedies, including such smash hits as Ghost in 1990 and Sister Act two years later.
Her forays into television include her Emmy-winning run as executive producer and resident "center square" personality on her revival of the game show Hollywood Squares. Never afraid to share her views, Goldberg continues to elicit laughs and provoke thoughts as the moderator of ABC's The View.
In March of 2019, she appeared at New York's Beacon Theatre as cohost for Love Rocks NYC, the star-studded annual benefit for the nonprofit organization God's Love We Deliver.
Whoopi Goldberg Background
Born and raised in New York, Whoopi Goldberg caught the performing bug at an early age. Her first audiences were the relatives who gave Goldberg her distinctive nickname, comparing the aspiring comedian to a whoopee cushion.
Her years studying comedy and theater in California and New York led to the development of the characters who filled her first stage hit, which was named The Spook Show before she and director Mike Nichols brought it to Broadway as Whoopi Goldberg in 1984. In 1985, she earned an Academy Award nomination for her first major screen role, in Steven Spielberg's The Color Purple. That launched a movie career that has included such beloved films as Ghost, Sister Act and The Lion King.
Among her television credits are her groundbreaking talk show The Whoopi Goldberg Show and the Emmy-nominated NBC sitcom Whoopi. Her Emmy-winning revival of Hollywood Squares ran from 1998 to 2004. In 2007, she joined Barbara Walters on ABC's The View as the show's new moderator.
One of America's most decorated performers, Goldberg is among the few to win an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony. Her other honors include two Golden Globes, a Drama Desk Award, two American Comedy Awards, the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor and a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame.
Her material was good. It seemed like she just got started and then she took about a dozen questions and it was over.
Whoopi had some terrific monologue and facial expressions. Her skits added to the humour. But one needs to be a little thick-skinned to get through the colourful metaphors.
Whoopi put on a great show. She didn't talk politics, which was my one concern in seeing her live. She was funny, forthright, and made me laugh until my sides ached! Thanks, Whoopi!
Wow!!! This was the first event/show I have ever had the chance to go to.......and all I can say is WOW!!! Whoopi is so down to earth and such an amazingly real person! She is absolutely hilarious!!! I loved that I spent my birthday in her audience!!!! Maybe next time I'll figure out how to meet her.......hehehehe Thank you!!!!!
act was too short room was too big (5K) main floor seating is too large, too flat
What a great one woman show! Whoopi was entertaining and down to earth. Really enjoyed the evening and hope that she returns to Windsor, Ontario.
No music, no special lights, no props. Just Whoopi, like a real conversation with a friend. I especially appricated the story about Mason. Wish I had the guts to do that to my daughter-in-law...but I wouldn't see my grandson until he's grown. Thanks for the joyful evening! Just wasn't long enough.
Good show, although I like her better on The View where she has to be careful in what she says. That keeps one on edge wondering what she's going to let slip....
The show was great! Whoopi was hysterically funny! It was wonderful to have a good laugh when everything in the news tends to be so serious.
Our seats were awesome. We were on the third row. My daughter and I go to a lot of concerts. These were the best seats we ever had. Whoopi was at the top of her game. She was very topical and informed. She was hysterically funny without being mean spirited or petty. She definitely told it like it is.
Whoopi Goldbergs show was funny from the start to finish. I hurt when the show was over from laughing so much. And most of the stuff she says is really the truth.
Great presentation with informal chatty atmosphere. Good portrait of the Lady.
I love her style of comedy. She is great and would go and see her again. The theatre was full and everyone around me enjoyed it by the way we were all laughing and clapping. Please have her back soon, she is hilarious.
whoopi put on a preformance for an hour and a half! my wife and i totaly enjojed her performance! we never stopped laughing the entire show!our seats were in the balcony and the view was excellent!
this was a very funny and great way and a new light to see whoppi. it is totaly different then raw. i loved this show. it was great. if anyoen who gets a chance to see her anywhere then please do it. was the best money ive spent in a while
I laughed long and hard. It was a great end to a stressful week. The great thing about it was the quality of the comedy. It was "think funny" not just nonsense. I remember her from the good old days in San Diego before she was famous. She only gets better.
Whoopi was good but she repeated alot of the same material as before in Biloxi. Her act was not as well polished as before when she used the theme that you can "Choose to be Happy". The politics at the beginning were not as funny because it was as if she is trying to convince you of something but once i got passed that I enjoyed her show and i think she is the funniest. Just expected more since I have seen her before live and on TV live.
I wanted to see Whoopi in person, but didn't know what to expect. She used a lot of curse words and joked about several subjects considered taboo like a woman's period, farts, menopause, incontinence pads, pubic hair, etc. I think many audience members were uncomfortable about these topics. She also joked about more traditional things such as children, grandchildren, race, politics and President Obama, drugs, alcohol, etc. During the show she spoke directly to several audience members who were walking around the theater. That was fun. At the end she took comments and questions from the audience. Studio A at the IP Casino in Biloxi is very nice and seats about 1400 people. The seats were comfortable and staggered, stadium style and we sat on the first floor in the "orchestra" area off to the right side. There are 2 big screens on the left and right sides of the stage. My husband's view was blocked by the person sitting in front right of him, so he had to look at the screen, which he didn't like. My view was good, but I did use binoculars. However, basically we both liked the show.
The show was great - we're still laughing two days later. We do not recommend this venue.
My husband and I both enjoyed Whoopee's show very much. She kept us laughing.
