Whoopi Goldberg on Tour

For all her achievements in theater, movies and television, Whoopi Goldberg has never lost her reverence for the connections she forges with audiences at her reliably outrageous stand-up performances.

Her appearance in November, 2019 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City marked another milestone for a performer who first came to wider attention with Whoopi Goldberg, the one-woman stage show she brought to Broadway with the help of director Mike Nichols in 1984. The acclaim for her skills drew the notice of Steven Spielberg, who cast her in the lead role of The Color Purple. Goldberg's Academy Award nomination led to her successful run in a huge variety of dramas and comedies, including such smash hits as Ghost in 1990 and Sister Act two years later.

Her forays into television include her Emmy-winning run as executive producer and resident "center square" personality on her revival of the game show Hollywood Squares. Never afraid to share her views, Goldberg continues to elicit laughs and provoke thoughts as the moderator of ABC's The View.

In March of 2019, she appeared at New York's Beacon Theatre as cohost for Love Rocks NYC, the star-studded annual benefit for the nonprofit organization God's Love We Deliver.

Whoopi Goldberg Background

Born and raised in New York, Whoopi Goldberg caught the performing bug at an early age. Her first audiences were the relatives who gave Goldberg her distinctive nickname, comparing the aspiring comedian to a whoopee cushion.

Her years studying comedy and theater in California and New York led to the development of the characters who filled her first stage hit, which was named The Spook Show before she and director Mike Nichols brought it to Broadway as Whoopi Goldberg in 1984. In 1985, she earned an Academy Award nomination for her first major screen role, in Steven Spielberg's The Color Purple. That launched a movie career that has included such beloved films as Ghost, Sister Act and The Lion King.

Among her television credits are her groundbreaking talk show The Whoopi Goldberg Show and the Emmy-nominated NBC sitcom Whoopi. Her Emmy-winning revival of Hollywood Squares ran from 1998 to 2004. In 2007, she joined Barbara Walters on ABC's The View as the show's new moderator.

One of America's most decorated performers, Goldberg is among the few to win an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony. Her other honors include two Golden Globes, a Drama Desk Award, two American Comedy Awards, the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor and a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame.

Awesome! Just a little too short for the money paid.

  • Fantastic Show

Whoopi was brilliant, compassionate, sensitive, funny, and unforgettable. It was great being in the same room as her. I could well have done with less use of the "f"word - but overall her stories were relevant and down to earth. This was the first comic standup show I have attended as tickets are a financial luxury. I have no regrets on this splurge. Having the privildge of meeting Whoopi will be one of my favourite stories to share for years to come. The question and answer session had the potential to be a great addition to the show, but some of the questions were so weird, that even Whoopi wondered was was going down.

Whoopi has 'had her day'....It is now time for her to hang up her hat, or put away her glasses or something! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME!

  • definately forgetable!

the show was horrible. Whoopi started off with the same exact material as last years show. She was not very funny....It seemed like she constantly "forgot" what she was going to do next. Still trying to forget that I ever spent money on these tickets.

  • I love Whooppi BUT..........

by Tickie on 10/12/10Tropicana Showroom - Atlantic CityRating: 2 out of 5

Whoopi said right from the start that if anyone came expecting a version of THE VIEW, they were NOT going to be happy. And some people , five older couples that I saw and a mother and son (What was SHE thinking?) left. I have been a fan of Whoopi's sine the first of her HBO shows and her years of Comic Relief, so I know her language and subject matter can get as she says, CHOICE. Fine I expected that but I also expected some clever life observations and stories from her. But what we got was very little clever and mostly drugs and sex talk from a woman who had to check her notes in order to do the show. And most of the drugs and sex talk was not even funny!! And that we DO expect from her. To be fair, she did mention that this was the first show she has done since her mother died. Maybe she wasn't ready. But if she felt that way, she should have canceled rather than disappoint her fans in this way. I'd rather have not gone and gotten my money back, rather than see this major fail. But the worst part was the audience after the show. She called for questions and what we got, for an excruciating 30 minutes, was people standing up and introducing themselves, and their group and their hometowns and pledging their undying love for Whoopi, just as if they really were on THE VIEW!! Oh please, we didn't care! The rest of the audience wanted people to ask questions she could be funny about and the only one who did that was someone who asked her about the Salahi couple who were so obnoxious to her on and after THE VIEW. THAT was something that she could, and did, get funny about. Not the 4 billionth request for an autograph, that wasted time after she had already said she could NOT give autographs. All in all, I still love Whoopi, but I know she can do better, I wish I had seen better.

  • Whoopie was Unprepared

by mantle on 10/12/10Tropicana Showroom - Atlantic CityRating: 1 out of 5

I was expecting a whole lot more from her. Like stand up comedy! I watch the view every day just for her, she is highly intellegent, her movies always memorable, comic relief unforgettable. This was a disaster. . She had a written script that without it she was lost. Her language was over the top and un-called for.

  • Whoopi is as real as anyone can get.

    by Jerzygirl35 on 10/12/10Tropicana Showroom - Atlantic CityRating: 5 out of 5

It is amazing how when someone like whoopi can bring out what we all are and the things that we all do,can be funny. i will be a fan for life. I really do love what she does and that she stands up to her beliefs.

I watch the View every day just to see Whoopi. She is so funny, she makes the show for me. If she is out one day, I don't enjoy the show as much, if I watch it at all. I like her because she is such a straight shooter. She is so honest and that is how I am, but she does it a lot better than I do or maybe I should say gets away with it a lot more because she's Whoopi. I also loved her in "the Ghost". I have the DVD and watch it over and over. I liked her in "Jumping Jack Flash" too.

  • Whoopi Goldberg Tropicana - Too Short

    by Busted123 on 10/12/10Tropicana Showroom - Atlantic CityRating: 3 out of 5

Most of the tickets to the show were complimentary. My wife and I spent full price to see the show. The show started 30 minutes late because the Tropicana staff could not seat the audience in time. Whoopi can on about 9:20 and ended the show at 10:30. During the time she was on was enjoyable but to spend close to $200 for tickets, a 60 minute show was not worth it.

  • Whoopi is awsome

by galebon on 10/11/10Tropicana Showroom - Atlantic CityRating: 4 out of 5

Loved Whoopi, she was great with the audience, quick wit. I did not like question and answer, i really don't want to see a bunch of drunks ramble on and say nothing. I have also seen Wanda and Kathy Griffin and it seems there is too much talk about woman aging problems, funny but just for a few minutes and move on. I understand her Mother just passed away so i'm sure she was not as energetic as usual. But she is still one of the funniest woman in comedy love her political thoughts. Would love to see her go back to the character comedy that she did years ago on broadway. The Tropicana did a bad job getting people into the theatre on time, people in line 45 minutes to an hour. I do not know if I would pay to see a show at Trop in the future.

  • A bad view of Whoopi

by Wevan on 10/11/10Tropicana Showroom - Atlantic CityRating: 1 out of 5

To start, I really like Whoopi Goldberg as an actress and a personality, so I thought this show would be fantastic, but it wasn't. She was unprepared. There was only about 20 minutes of routine in a show that lasted over an hour. She spent most of that time dropping the f-bomb, not as part of her act, but to buy time while she tried to remember where she was in her so-called act. As if this wasn't bad enough, she had a question and answer session at the end that was a love-fest for Whoopi, but not very funny for the audience. This was a sold out show and I think you need to give back to the people who are your fans by giving a quality act. If you think all this is an exaggeration, she had notes on stage to refer to and kept forgetting where she was in her stories. I don't want to pay for a ticket to a professional who acts like an amateur.

  • whoopi was whoopi

by ghij on 10/11/10Tropicana Showroom - Atlantic CityRating: 3 out of 5

I liked the show, because I like whoopi. But she didn't seem too prepared , with anything new, and her Q & A at the end was nothing but a time filler.

  • Whoopi still has it but didn't prepare well

by unusualart on 10/11/10Tropicana Showroom - Atlantic CityRating: 3 out of 5

Whoopi is very funny. The show was good but she got dragged off course by someone screaming out a political view right at the beginning. She went on for 15 minutes about politics. Luckily, she got back on course or we probably would have left. She also didn't prepare well. She was reading notes throughout the show and she wasn't shy about it. I also don't recommend the Q&A at the end. Everybody stands up and tells her how great she is for 5 minutes before asking a question. The Q&A takes away from the whole show.

It was great!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whoopi is the best. The down to earth person in her comes out even in the show. When she thought someone was taping the show the serious side of Whoopi came out so fast. I just wish the show was a little longer.

  • Whoopi

by Jolyow on 10/11/10Tropicana Showroom - Atlantic CityRating: 4 out of 5

Star quality of Whoopi was ever present at her show this past Saturday night. She really knows how to connect to the audience. Prior to the show, she was in the casino slot area having fun with guests. During her show, she was very interactive with the audience and it felt very intimate. The audience loved her so much they were yelling comments and telling her how much they loved her. Everyone wanted a piece of Whoopi that night and she gave us a great time!

  • Work it out Girl!

She came with energy and family. You Go Girl! It was like a conversation between friends. Hope Whoopi does another concert in AC soon.

  • Awesome

She was very entertaining... When she came out dancing and got the audience jumping along with her, it had the audience amped. She was very funny and I was extremely happy to have the opportunity to see her in person. I am a very big fan of hers and grew up watching her movies. I truly loved her show...

  • Dont Go.

by SurfSthrn on 9/18/10IP Casino - BiloxiRating: 2 out of 5

Either Whoopi has lost her sense of humor or I have. Being a huge fan I was not expecting this Whoopi. Overall she seemed not very happy to be there. There were a couple of funny moments but in the end it wasnt worth going to. There was a guy taking her picture behind me and I thought she was going to go after him. So beware fans Whoopi wants to be a "comedienne" not a model.
