About
Whoopi Goldberg on Tour
For all her achievements in theater, movies and television, Whoopi Goldberg has never lost her reverence for the connections she forges with audiences at her reliably outrageous stand-up performances.
Her appearance in November, 2019 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City marked another milestone for a performer who first came to wider attention with Whoopi Goldberg, the one-woman stage show she brought to Broadway with the help of director Mike Nichols in 1984. The acclaim for her skills drew the notice of Steven Spielberg, who cast her in the lead role of The Color Purple. Goldberg's Academy Award nomination led to her successful run in a huge variety of dramas and comedies, including such smash hits as Ghost in 1990 and Sister Act two years later.
Her forays into television include her Emmy-winning run as executive producer and resident "center square" personality on her revival of the game show Hollywood Squares. Never afraid to share her views, Goldberg continues to elicit laughs and provoke thoughts as the moderator of ABC's The View.
In March of 2019, she appeared at New York's Beacon Theatre as cohost for Love Rocks NYC, the star-studded annual benefit for the nonprofit organization God's Love We Deliver.
Whoopi Goldberg Background
Born and raised in New York, Whoopi Goldberg caught the performing bug at an early age. Her first audiences were the relatives who gave Goldberg her distinctive nickname, comparing the aspiring comedian to a whoopee cushion.
Her years studying comedy and theater in California and New York led to the development of the characters who filled her first stage hit, which was named The Spook Show before she and director Mike Nichols brought it to Broadway as Whoopi Goldberg in 1984. In 1985, she earned an Academy Award nomination for her first major screen role, in Steven Spielberg's The Color Purple. That launched a movie career that has included such beloved films as Ghost, Sister Act and The Lion King.
Among her television credits are her groundbreaking talk show The Whoopi Goldberg Show and the Emmy-nominated NBC sitcom Whoopi. Her Emmy-winning revival of Hollywood Squares ran from 1998 to 2004. In 2007, she joined Barbara Walters on ABC's The View as the show's new moderator.
One of America's most decorated performers, Goldberg is among the few to win an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony. Her other honors include two Golden Globes, a Drama Desk Award, two American Comedy Awards, the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor and a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame.

Whoopi is a hoot!
by BronxGal57 on 1/15/12Hard Rock Live - HollywoodRating: 4 out of 5As usual Whoopi tells it like it is. This show is not for "innocent ears" or the easily offended. Like she warns, "this is NOT the f***ing View!". My only complaint was that she did not always repeat the audience question during the Q & A segment of the show. Otherwise a fun night with the Queen of Comedy!
Whoopi at Hard Rock live
by Ankafanforever on 1/15/12Hard Rock Live - HollywoodRating: 2 out of 5Whoopi is one of a kind and she had me in hysterics. There were 2 technical problems that detracted from the show. Those of us seated in the back could not see her well enough to see her facial expressions and body language. That is a good part of her act. Where was the big screen monitor that the singers use??? The second problem came in the question and answer part of the show. The questioners did not have a microphone so no one could hear them. Whoopi tried to repeat the questions but most of the people just made comments or told her stories. At that point many members of the audience got up and left. I was disappointed that I could not see or hear her better. Unless there is a change I would not recommend the show in this venue.
whoopi
by rothblatt on 1/15/12Hard Rock Live - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5fantastic show..no set routine, but just life stories. Laughed and laughed as a lot of the material brought back memories......Don't miss her show
Whooping was great
by Redmarlin on 1/15/12Hard Rock Live - HollywoodRating: 4 out of 5Although the language was a little heavy, we knew that could happen going in and she does it to emphasize her points. She covers current and personal topics in a funny and well presented manner. Only disappointment was the question and answer session at end was properly executed. No microphones were set up for audience questions which made it difficult to hear. In addition, some of the audience was rude by talking/telling over Whooping and the questioners. This seemed to irritate Whoopie and less questions were able to be asked.
Hard Rock Live
by Kenmoore33 on 1/15/12Hard Rock Live - HollywoodRating: 3 out of 5Whoopi Goldberg was great however Hard rock could have had a better set up... could not see Whoopi Goldberg most events i have gone to would always have the Jumbo screen to see the performer
Wooppss
by IK22SS on 1/15/12Hard Rock Live - HollywoodRating: 3 out of 5Whoopie opened to a standing ovation and I was happy and excited to be on my feet for her! Her stand up routine was very good and fairly funny...I won't go beyond and say excellent. Toward the end of her routine, we felt as though she ran out of material and had to do more time on stage; so she opens up with questions from the audience....This was the destruction of her act! Her responses to as many as 20 people were short and curt with absolutely no comedy attached.....Boring!....Left us with, "What just happened?"
Whoopi
by swoopea on 1/15/12Hard Rock Live - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5Her material, although I heard some of it before, her presentation of it was effective which kept it fresh. She is honest, she is who she is and makes no apology. Stand up is hard to do and you can not please everyone. I will always support her... If you have young children please don't bring them to stand up performances and than walk out it is rude..
Venue
by Speckler on 1/15/12Hard Rock Live - HollywoodRating: 1 out of 5Love Whoopi! However disappointed same jokes pretty much as she does on the View except adult version. Last 15 minutes questions from the audience which could not be heard ,no mics. People were leaving before she left the stage cause you couldn't hear what was going on. No real routine planned same ole stuff
Very Disappointed
by unbreakable38645 on 1/15/12Hard Rock Live - HollywoodRating: 1 out of 5I was very disappointed. I was expecting a stand up comedy similar to her old HBO special. This was like an evening with Whoppie; listening to her stories (some were funny) and then she took questions from the audience for like a half hour. I wish I had read a review so I could have saved my money. Sorry Whoppie: I still love you but I would not go see you again.
Wonderful Whoopi Experience
by watchbaby on 1/15/12Hard Rock Live - HollywoodRating: 4 out of 5Whoopi is always great. Only critisism I have is the question and answer session at the end. Questioners should have had a mic. We could not hear the questions, so Whoopies answer had no meaning. And she did not repeat the questions.
Whoopi was not enjoyable
by lalolo on 1/15/12Hard Rock Live - HollywoodRating: 1 out of 5I, and the 3 other people who were with me, all felt the same. It was a very poorly put together show. First of all there were no T.V. monitors, so we might as well have been listening to the radio. I saw Howie Mandel in the same venue and there were Monitors on both sides of him. During her question and answering portion there were no microphones. That would have been o.k. it she at least repeated the questions asked her.. I was not the first by far to leave the show before it was over. Believe it or not, I really like Whoopi but her show was extremely disappointing
Whoppie Goldberg
by katlovr on 1/15/12Hard Rock Live - HollywoodRating: 3 out of 5i was very disappointed....being i watch her on the View almost everyday...her act wasnt that much different then what she says on the shows except that at here she could curse....i would see her again...i think....but not at the Hard Rock Live....i just dont think that its a good venue for comdey...concerts maybe. so over all i was disappointed....but yes she is still Whoppie and and her comdey was spot on and funny....just wish is was different material....but Whoppie will always be the best in my eyes...next time if i get to see her again it wont be at the Hard Rock Live
brief!!!
by miruffer on 1/15/12Hard Rock Live - HollywoodRating: 3 out of 5The forty five minutes at most that may have been considered her act was not disappointing but the rest of the HOUR was a waste of time. All in all, not much for the money.
Too short and ended badly
by FormerWhoopiFan on 1/15/12Hard Rock Live - HollywoodRating: 1 out of 5I took my wife to the show and we were pretty excited to see her classic characters from her broadway show. She didn't do one. She did a stand up act for about 40 minutes and concluded the show with questions from the audience. No one could here any of the question and every one asked were stupid as far as she was concerned. Everyone was blurting out questions and when she was done she said thank you and left the stage. We didn't even applaud and she never came back out. I was truly disappointed especially for the price of the tickets and the fact that she didn't even perform for an entire hour. Take my advice, save your money for a better show.
Whoopi was wonderful....
by Melodious33 on 1/15/12Hard Rock Live - HollywoodRating: 4 out of 5Fresh and funny, Whoopi had us laughing all through the performance. Reliving our puberty an d how different things were then. Although the younger generation laughed whole-heartily, the menopausal generation were in tears. Whoopi spared no one, including the men describing correct protocol when at a urinal. All in all, the show was fabulous. She ended with questions from the audience which I personally did not care for. The energy died down during this portion trying to hear the questions and dealing with constant interruptions. Maybe an alternative would be to give (or email) question cards to ticket holders and have a collection box before entering the seating area. Staff could review the questions handing Whoopi the best 10-15 to answer. Whoopi was great and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon... Woo Hoo Whoopi!
Below the line
by karlosososo on 1/15/12Hard Rock Live - HollywoodRating: 2 out of 5First of all, I love Whoopi I grew up with her or more precisely her movies. Her show was more about bodyparts and their deterioration, kinda boring and a little vulgar. Technical I missed a video close up on her so that everbody could see her and also enjoy her acting. From where I was sitting, and thats the same for a majority of the audience, she was the size of an ant. For her Q&A nobody could understand the questions by the audience that was probably most awful section. The sound wasn't good either, for such a big theater they should have the experience to use it right but they had acoustic feedbacks and it wasn't loud enough. And the worse was people coming an hour late and making others standup so that they could find their seats, the theater should be closed after the show starts! Thats totally unrespectful towards the act! Allover it was a very remote experience...
Whoopi
by Qchunk on 1/15/12Hard Rock Live - HollywoodRating: 4 out of 5If you are going to have people ask questions in the audiance, make sure there are mics in all of the sections to be passed around.
