About

Whoopi Goldberg on Tour

For all her achievements in theater, movies and television, Whoopi Goldberg has never lost her reverence for the connections she forges with audiences at her reliably outrageous stand-up performances.

Her appearance in November, 2019 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City marked another milestone for a performer who first came to wider attention with Whoopi Goldberg, the one-woman stage show she brought to Broadway with the help of director Mike Nichols in 1984. The acclaim for her skills drew the notice of Steven Spielberg, who cast her in the lead role of The Color Purple. Goldberg's Academy Award nomination led to her successful run in a huge variety of dramas and comedies, including such smash hits as Ghost in 1990 and Sister Act two years later.

Her forays into television include her Emmy-winning run as executive producer and resident "center square" personality on her revival of the game show Hollywood Squares. Never afraid to share her views, Goldberg continues to elicit laughs and provoke thoughts as the moderator of ABC's The View.

In March of 2019, she appeared at New York's Beacon Theatre as cohost for Love Rocks NYC, the star-studded annual benefit for the nonprofit organization God's Love We Deliver.

Whoopi Goldberg Background

Born and raised in New York, Whoopi Goldberg caught the performing bug at an early age. Her first audiences were the relatives who gave Goldberg her distinctive nickname, comparing the aspiring comedian to a whoopee cushion.

Her years studying comedy and theater in California and New York led to the development of the characters who filled her first stage hit, which was named The Spook Show before she and director Mike Nichols brought it to Broadway as Whoopi Goldberg in 1984. In 1985, she earned an Academy Award nomination for her first major screen role, in Steven Spielberg's The Color Purple. That launched a movie career that has included such beloved films as Ghost, Sister Act and The Lion King.

Among her television credits are her groundbreaking talk show The Whoopi Goldberg Show and the Emmy-nominated NBC sitcom Whoopi. Her Emmy-winning revival of Hollywood Squares ran from 1998 to 2004. In 2007, she joined Barbara Walters on ABC's The View as the show's new moderator.

One of America's most decorated performers, Goldberg is among the few to win an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony. Her other honors include two Golden Globes, a Drama Desk Award, two American Comedy Awards, the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor and a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame.

Thoroughly enjoyable! The crowd was awesome and the show exceptional! It was exciting to see Martha Reeves not one aisle away, also! You never know who's going to be in the audience with you!

  • Priceless laughter!

From the moment she took the stage there was never a dull moment. I was impressed that she did a question and answer session with the audience.

  • Whoopi Captivated Us!

This was our first time to see Whoopi up close and personal (4th row seats helped) and she absolutely blew us away with her honesty, humor, and human-ness. We have always loved her on screen, big and little, and this performance just reinforced that love and respect. She gave everyone the opportunity to leave if they were offended by her opening sally of F-bombs, but I didn't seen anyone leaving. Even the young lad sitting next to me who probably didn't get most of the female/menopause references seemed to be having a good time.

She was really great!! Very funny, let audience ask questions at the end. I would go again.

  • What The Hell???

Let me say I have Seen Whoopi at least 5 times. In the 80's and 90's she had a "show" and it was brilliant and Bottom line funny. ....This outing she got on her bus and got up and told Stories (I guess that is what I call them) but sadly few were funny. I can't be shocked but I also Not sure what is up with so much time spent on tampon's and her bathrook habits... as The funny Whoopi often says "WHAT THE HELL"???

  • Whoopi was throughly disappointing

by alisamiramar on 1/23/12Hard Rock Live - HollywoodRating: 1 out of 5

This was one of the worst shows I have attended. She had what seemed to be old jokes that were no way relevant to the times and what is currently happening. I kept waiting for the momentum to build in her show, but it never did. After about 45 minutes, she took questions from the audience (the venue was too large for this) and she lost everyone and people started to get up and leave. I really expected more from Whoopi, and will never purchase another ticket to see her again. If she wants to go on the road and make money, she needs to PREPARE for the show! People can tell when a person is winging it! Whoppi, PREPARE the next time and give people what they pay to see and hear....not just you in a poncho, cursing, walkin' side to side talking about tampons and the female reproduction process! It was AWEFUL!!!! REALLY???!!!

  • Whoopi was ASSUME!!!

  • Raw - this aint The View

by Twogaygirls on 1/18/12Hard Rock Live - HollywoodRating: 4 out of 5

Very funny for those who don't mind raw humor. said so many things people could relate to. We had a lot of laughs, however, a few prudes around us we not as pleased. Mature warning was clear when purchasing tickets - guess some people didn't head that warning.

I love Whoopi and was glad we came to the show. However, we were a little disappointed. the material was not new.

  • She was good!

    by Milkshake1234 on 1/16/12Hard Rock Live - HollywoodRating: 3 out of 5

Wonderful comedy set! I was expecting a lot more for the price of tix but she was good! The sound quality was poor, it didn't sound like a surround sound system or one that had bass.

  • Whoopi Goldberg

by simongary on 1/16/12Hard Rock Live - HollywoodRating: 1 out of 5

was looking forward to an enjoyable evening with WHOOPI, instead i found the material she used to be something i would expect from a up and coming comedy act, not a seasoned comedian such as her self. she did about an hour act,and then opened the floor for questions. most of us couldn't hear the questions so WHOPPI response was meaningless. the audience really was't interested in a open mike dialogand after a few minutes a majority of the audience began to leave. it was a very disappointing evening.

  • Disappointed Whoopi Fan

    by Disgusted101 on 1/16/12Hard Rock Live - HollywoodRating: 1 out of 5

The material was distasteful and unlike her usual. I took my Mother to the concert as she is a HUGE Whoopi fan for our weekly Mother/Daughter Friday outing. From the begining to the end the jokes were distasteful and embarassing to repeat. Whoopi is a great comedian and she has much respect from her fans however this was a major disappointment for us. I hope she reviews her material and check her audience likes and ages before her next show.

by noops on 1/16/12Hard Rock Live - HollywoodRating: 3 out of 5

I thought she was OK, but she had an hours worth of material and she should have ended the show then...After, she took questions and you couldn't hear the questions and she didn't repeat them to crowed... It ruined the show for me and people where walking out at that point.

Very offensive. Over use of the "F" word. Not humorous; especially for men. Very disappointing.

  • Great for an hour

    by csm0023 on 1/16/12Hard Rock Live - HollywoodRating: 3 out of 5

  • Whoopi -- Review of Life

    by funfun2 on 1/16/12Hard Rock Live - HollywoodRating: 4 out of 5

Whoopi was FUNNY! -- going through the things she shares about her life. For sure her show is NOT for KIDS! I'm not so sure the MEN in the audience appreciated some of the things we WOMEN found funny. I do think her comedy could have been a little longer; before she started taking Q & A from the audience, then ending her show.

Good show for first 30 min But the question and answer was not good

  • Outstanding Show

    by Superfan001 on 1/16/12Hard Rock Live - HollywoodRating: 5 out of 5

I love Whoopi! I wanted to see her last year when she was in Miami, but did not get a chance to do it. I spent the entire show laughing. The only thing I did not like is that it was too short! I know, time flies when you're having fun! Thank you Whoopi. I hope you come back soon!! I will be there!!

  • Whoopie

by davieduo on 1/16/12Hard Rock Live - HollywoodRating: 4 out of 5

The show was great ... but the one-on-one question session made me get up and leave. You couldn't hear what the person in the audience was asking so her response was meaningless. We sat through about 5 minutes of it and then left with a lot of other people! NOT GOOD!

  • Funny but....

by Barboyftl on 1/15/12Hard Rock Live - HollywoodRating: 3 out of 5

Very short show, no video screens and no in audience microphone for question answers.. Funny material but not worth the price of the ticket.
