White Christmas On Tour
This Christmas classic is as much a cultural institution as Coca Cola or Thanksgiving dinner, and its music feels like it’s been around nearly as long.
White Christmas originated as a 1954 musical film from Paramount Pictures, directed by Michael Curtiz (Casablanca, Mildred Pierce). The narrative came from David Ives and Paul Blake, while famed Tin Pan Alley composer Irving Berlin wrote the music and lyrics. A star-studded event of the highest order, White Christmas starred Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney, and Vera-Ellen. In the film story, singers Bob Wallace and Phil Davis meet up with Betty and Judy Haynes to perform a Christmas show in rural Vermont. When they find out that their old commander from the war, General Waverly, is having trouble keeping his inn afloat, they try to help out by putting on a blockbuster musical show.
White Christmas came to the stage in 2000, where it premiered at The Muny in St. Louis as Irving Berlin’s White Christmas. It then played in San Francisco in 2004, going on to tour the U.S. and Canada. The show toured the U.K. during Christmases from 2006 to 2011, after which it saw a limited engagement on Broadway, running 53 performances and 12 previews in 2008 and 2009. In the subsequent few years, it toured the U.S. again, garnering acclaim, including two Tony Award nominations in 2009 for Best Choreography and Best Orchestrations. That same year, White Christmas was nominated for six Drama Desk Awards, including Outstanding Director of a Musical, Choreography, Orchestrations, Set Design, Costume Design, and Sound Design.
Whether you’re an old fan or new to these tunes, you can’t do much better than catching White Christmas during the holiday season.
We had such a wonderful time, watching a family favorite. I loved being able to watch this movie "on the big screen," and to feel comfortable to sing my favorite tunes with the audience. There was a fun and unexpected treat at the end, what a way to end a beautiful night!
Loved the acting, singing, and dancing but Todd Nielsen directed it like a showcase of the actors’ talents with a disregard to the cohesive storyline. It was like he assumed everyone new the story so why stay true. Some scenes and numbers did not flow, or were out of place, or didn’t lend to the production. Nielsen had Martha Watson revel she was a former actress and sing “Let Me Sing and I’m Happy” without it going anywhere except to have Susan do a reprise. Bob and Phil’s “Sisters” number was awkwardly placed, and the Bob and Betty relationship would not have been seen coming if you didn’t know it was suppose to happen. The Train Car scene had terrible blocking and needed real imagination.
Excellent vocals, theme, dancing, and fun, fun, fun!!! Loved it!!

Look forward to White Christmas every year, and always love it more each time. New venue this year, and it was great. Spreckels Theatre is such a beautiful, historic theatre. Perfect venue. Feels like going home to family to watch the cast perform. Love seeing familiar faces. Thank you for starting off the Christmas season!!
Wonderful cast brings a Classic story "White Christmas" to San Diego and a little bit of snow. The cast really was outstanding and the band brought the tunes to brighten our holiday spirits . Bravo
A wonderful adaptation of the classic White Christmas - new twists were innovative and fit right in with the feel of the original. Well rehearsed choreography and vocals were right on mark.

Oh my! White Christmas was amazing! From the music to the dancers, to the costumes to all the actors...it was memorable, happy, colorful, and added so much to our Christmas Season. There is magic in the old music and plays....they cast a spell of absolute pleasure! Thank you for bringing this beautiful play to our area. Even though we travled many miles to see it...it was SO WORTH IT!!!!

The best. Tap dancers were wonderful. Singers were very good. Beautiful customs and sets.
The talent was outstanding. The singing and dancing reminded me that we have so many incredibly talented people in this country. they don't go on T.V. shows to compete for prizes they simply go out every day, do their jobs, and provide high level of entertainment to an appreciative public. The show tracked very well with the movie. Again congratulations to the entire cast and crew for a wonderful evening.
The music, dancing and snow at the end were all amazing. I loved every minute!

Not an exact copy of the movie, but Big Crosby is dead. Excellent retelling of the story with first class singing and dancing. I would definitely see it again.
It was ok.just not great.I have seen other shows that was better entertainment .

What a production. The tap dancing was unbelievable. Just all around entertaining. Great cast with wonderful voices.
My husband and I enjoyed White Christmas immensely! Intermission happened so quickly because we were having so much fun. Only negative was that the speakers blocked stage left and some of the actors. Great job, Phil Davies!
White Christmas was one of the best Broadway shows I've seen. This production was very well done...actors, music, scenery, costuming, etc. I would definitely attend it again if it came back to Des Moines.
