White Christmas On Tour

This Christmas classic is as much a cultural institution as Coca Cola or Thanksgiving dinner, and its music feels like it’s been around nearly as long.

White Christmas originated as a 1954 musical film from Paramount Pictures, directed by Michael Curtiz (Casablanca, Mildred Pierce). The narrative came from David Ives and Paul Blake, while famed Tin Pan Alley composer Irving Berlin wrote the music and lyrics. A star-studded event of the highest order, White Christmas starred Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney, and Vera-Ellen. In the film story, singers Bob Wallace and Phil Davis meet up with Betty and Judy Haynes to perform a Christmas show in rural Vermont. When they find out that their old commander from the war, General Waverly, is having trouble keeping his inn afloat, they try to help out by putting on a blockbuster musical show.

White Christmas came to the stage in 2000, where it premiered at The Muny in St. Louis as Irving Berlin’s White Christmas. It then played in San Francisco in 2004, going on to tour the U.S. and Canada. The show toured the U.K. during Christmases from 2006 to 2011, after which it saw a limited engagement on Broadway, running 53 performances and 12 previews in 2008 and 2009. In the subsequent few years, it toured the U.S. again, garnering acclaim, including two Tony Award nominations in 2009 for Best Choreography and Best Orchestrations. That same year, White Christmas was nominated for six Drama Desk Awards, including Outstanding Director of a Musical, Choreography, Orchestrations, Set Design, Costume Design, and Sound Design.

Whether you’re an old fan or new to these tunes, you can’t do much better than catching White Christmas during the holiday season.

    The great snow show...

by Santa on 1/5/22Toby's Dinner Theatre Columbia - Columbia

The original show had no cursing in it. Your play did. Along with creative changes, the script was long and dragging. The food was ok. Not great. The beef round carved at the end was excellent. The egg plant dish was not appetizing at all. Looked like left over. Meatloaf also. But, it is what it is. A nice night out that wasn't as special as it could've been.

    Beyond Fabulous!

    by Katie684 on 12/23/21Anderson Theatre - Marietta

This was one of the most amazing musicals that I have ever experienced. The performers were all so talented. The singing was excellent, but the dancing was spectacular! Incredible dance numbers and talent. We love the Atlanta Lyric Theatre and this joining with them and Cobb was a beautiful experience. Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday to all those involved, and thanks!

    Fantastic show

by Issac on 12/20/21Anderson Theatre - Marietta

The show was fantastic . I and my family enjoyed every moment . The performance was amazing and of West End in London or Broadway in New York excellence . My only negative would be that there was no bar open at the interval .

    Enjoyable

by Hoffman on 12/13/21Toby's Dinner Theatre Columbia - Columbia

Our waiter which played the general was great at both. White Christmas has been one of my favorite movies for many years. The entire cast was fantastic. I brought two friends that had never been to your establishment and they absolutely loved it. How you accommodate for everyone left us in Awww. I used to serve the manager Joel at a small convenience store many years ago. I had never been to a dinner theatre until he gave me and my husband a discount or tickets for the first time. I’m so glad I took him up on his offer I e been to see a few shows and have not been let down in the least. Bravo for everyone involved in Toby’s Dinner Theatre.

I am in the Christmas mood!

by MomBeck on 12/9/21Toby's Dinner Theatre Columbia - Columbia

Such a delightful show!!! The play was wonderful. The actors were awesome! Loved the old songs-what beautiful voices! Thank you for allowing me to reminisce. The menu offered favorites for everyone. Would likely recommend putting in writing that drinks need to be ordered BEFORE intermission. Probably would get more $$ (all profit) by allowing orders for specialty drinks at intermission. Put a bar in lobby!

    Just OK.

by Lee on 12/6/21Toby's Dinner Theatre Columbia - Columbia

Food was terrible. We were hoping the show would make up for the disappointing food. Show was just ok. Great to hear the holiday favorites but we were looking forward to so much more. Bummer!

    Really well done show.

by Go and see it! on 12/2/21Toby's Dinner Theatre Columbia - Columbia

I went with four friends and we all really enjoyed the experience. The acting was first rate ---as was the dancing. But best of all was the singing. This is a really talented group of singers and actors. We were all very impressed. We weren't sure beforehand how the show could be done in a theater in the round. Somehow through clever staging, sets and acting, they really made it work. Great costumes except for the female lead---they need to tailor her outfits better. That is my only criticism.

    Wonderful Time

by Catherine on 11/9/21Toby's Dinner Theatre Columbia - Columbia

The show was very good. And having the actors as your servers was an added bonus. They worked really hard. This is why I tip extra. They deserve it. Now for the food, it was edible. But not delicious at all. They should use a different catering company. The drinks are good and I like the souvenir glasses. Staff very friendly.

    White Christmas Bust

by Searchman on 12/25/18Pechanga Resort and Casino - Temecula

I was disappointed that there were not more traditional Christmas songs. I had a difficult time hearing due to the acoustics and my hearing disability. A headset for the hearing impaired was not offered, or if it was I did not know about it. Was able to stay awake during the performance though.Did not understand many words so got disinterested. Take a heavy jacket or blanket along. It was very cold inside the theater.

I was expecting more of the classic Christmas carols and was just a little disappointed.
