About

Celebrate the holiday season with one of the greatest Broadway musicals of all time, THE MUSIC MAN! It's 1912 and the lovable, fast-talking con man "Professor" Harold Hill arrives in River City, Iowa promising the townsfolk that he can teach the town's children how to play in a magnificent marching band if they buy uniforms and instruments from him. It's all part of a big swindle, but falling in love with the town librarian wasn't part of the deal. With classic tunes that include "Ya Got Trouble," "Goodnight My Someone," "Till There Was You," and the show-stopping "Seventy-Six Trombones," THE MUSIC MAN is an irresistible, all-American musical for the entire family!

Introduced my son to Music Man over 30 years ago and he immediately shared my love for the movie & especially the music. So we were thrilled when the play came to our area. The actors were just perfect for their parts. And the music illiminating.

Prof. Harold Hill and Marian were amazing. But all the player did their part. The opening scene on the train was very clever with the motion. I had seen the movie, so knew the story but the WST cast was way better than the movie. I have a partial hearing loss, but did not have a problem hearing anyone in the play. Marian has exceptionally strong voice.

This was the first musical we took my 7 year old niece to and she loved it, as did the rest of us seasoned musical goers. She can't wait to go again.

The show was wonderful! Miss Marion and Prof. Hill had amazing voices and the mayor's wife was adorable. The whole cast did a great job. And the scenery was so well done.

The Music man was very good. The storyline was good, but the amazing singing talent is what made the show. Whether we were listening to the adult actors or the children, we were awed by what we were hearing.

  • Great production

The show had terrific pace and energy. It's excellent in almost all regards. First rate choreography. Fabulous orchestra! Wonderful imaginative direction . Attractive and functional sets. Only one complaint--sat in the mezzaine and the stage was painted with over 200 orange and green leaves--in Iowa in July? It was distracting.

Our first play at The Walnut in a few years. We picked a great one, great acting, singing and scenery. Not only the main actors but the entire cast did an excellent job. I will highly recommend it to our friends and families.

Purchased these tickets for my wife and she enjoyed it very much. The cast was very good especially the barber shop quartet. The stages props where very colorful as well as the costuming for this show. We have been watching this musical for ever and finally got to see the show. Well done.

  • The Music Man was entertainment at its best!

We drove to Philly in the snow storm, met our daughter and her boyfriend in Malvern and then took the train to Philly. We met his parents' in the city...so it was tough getting to Philly but everyone agreed that the show was GREAT. We would go to see it again. The singing and dancing were terrific and as good or better than any we have seen on Broadway. More importantly, though, each actor entertained with each line. The music and the dancing were not too long...just right. Zanita, the young lady who graduated from Point Park was terrific! Bravo!!!

  • The Music Man was very nostalgic

We took my mother to the theater at her request as a Christmas gift. She had seen the play as a much younger woman. She said the Walnut Street Theater's production was as good as she had remembered it being many years ago. It has inspired us to become members & will go to the theater more often now!

It was a winter vacation night on the town - four adults with four tweens and teens - to see Music Man at the Walnut Street Theater. Great production of a classic American musical with outstanding costumes, voices, and dancing numbers. The enthusiasm of the audience was infectious, and made for a memorable evening "out on the town.". Highly recommended for families wanting to introduce their families to this incomparable art form.
