Meet Jenna, a waitress and expert pie-maker who dreams of a way out of her small town and rocky marriage. Pouring her heart into her pies, she crafts desserts that mirror her topsy-turvy life such as "The Key (Lime) to Happiness Pie" and "Betrayed By My Eggs Pie." When a baking contest in a nearby county - and a satisfying encounter with someone new - shows Jenna a chance at a fresh start, she must find the courage to seize it. Change is on the menu, as long as Jenna can write her own perfectly personal recipe for happiness.
Brought to life by a groundbreaking, all-female creative team, this Tony Award-nominated hit features original music and lyrics by 6-time Grammy nominee Sara Bareilles ("Love Song," "Brave"), a book by acclaimed screenwriter Jessie Nelson (I Am Sam) and direction by Tony Award winner Diane Paulus (Pippin, Finding Neverland).
"Waitress is a little slice of heaven!" says Entertainment Weekly, and is "sweet, sassy and passionate," according to New York Magazine. Don't miss this uplifting and hilarious musical.
I've seen hundreds of plays. Blood Brothers and Kiss of the Spider Woman remain my all time favorites over Les Mis and other populars. I put Waitress in the top of my list.
The musical was great, my seats were great, the theater was great. Everything was great. They also sold adorable pies in little jars!
Being a huge fan of the movie I was excited to see the broadway production and I was not disappointed. The cast stayed true to the original characters and brought new life to the story with amazing energy. The music was beautiful, the details were well placed. Real flour, butter, sugar was not missed by the audience eye and the smell of apple pie brought you into Joe's Pie Shop as though you were really there.
This musical was better than I expected, both funny and moving. Great production, terrific acting--everyone was good, and Charles Ferguson (who was nominated for a Tony) stole the show. Visibility in this beautiful, ornate old theater was excellent. My only quibble is that the over-amplification made it difficult to understand a good portion of the words in Jessie Mueller's (the lead) songs, though it didn't seem to affect the other singers. I was very glad I attended!
Every performer was A+ A joyful experience. Everything you want from. A nite at the theater and the pie was fantastic!
LOVED, LOVED, LOVED The Waitress! My daughter and I saw this play last week. It's funny and sweet and fabulous. The music is so good – the harmonies! We can't wait for the CD. Highly recommend seeing this show!
The songs, especially in Act I, were memorable and moving. Actors were superb.
Loved this show. Jessie Mueller and cast was excellent. Music unbelievable. Already pre ordered cast album. Not to be missed!!
What a terrific energetic fun play and yet in so many ways no surprise. Yes, Jesse Mueller was so good. She has a spectacular voice with tremendous range. She gives her role 100% of emotion and energy. The actual surprise was that ALL the cast were fabulous! Hats off to whomever picked the leads. Only downside was that I left hungry for a slice!!!!!!!
This musical was a total treat! It was funny and light, yet covered some serious issues too, like the importance of friendships, generosity, and making right choices in life. People will love the cast, the script, and the songs. Its Tony nominations were well deserved! I even expected more. It has terrific lead characters and a wonderful supporting cast too. Music and lyrics are the best! You can't go wrong attending this funny, moving musical that is beautifully sung!
Never seen a bad b'way show, just some are better than others. Cast was energetic and talented but the story was unnecessarily stretched out and the music wasn't mostly forgettable.
I thought the show was good. The lead has an excellent voice. The supporting cast was good, Some scenes were fun, but overall, I thought the show was slightly weak for Broadway.
Completely hysterical and the music is phenomenal. A MUST SEE!!
Loved, loved, loved Waitress. Laughed hard, wept, thrilled and went home thinking Best show ever. You do forget how you felt at that other show 5 years ago - but still in my top very few ever.
light and airy fun and enjoyable Sondheim is not shaking in his boots from the score movie was better... song at end of movie was not included in the show
Waitress is a favorite movie of mine, so I was unsure if it would translate to the stage. It way exceeded my expectations and has been moved up the list as one of my all time favorite musicals. The music was wonderful and it was perfectly cast. We laughed and/or cried throughout the entire show.
2 hours plus is not enough time to spend with this fabulous cast. I want to either work with them or eat every meal in their diner...the show was that delicious!!!! From Jessie's Jenna to Kimiko'sDawn( her quirkiness ),And oh Keala'sBeckey'rolling eye stares I laughed and cryed from beginning to end. I can't wait ti get me some more pie from these fabulous Waitresses!!
definitely a must see. Sara Bareilles' music was really heartwarming and astounding. The cast was hilarious and really well put together and the story was very inspirational.
An excellent show with original musical score. The simple storyline is made interesting by the unique way it is presented.
The music and story were great. In a world where Hamilton dominates I would bet that this show could easily beat any other show for best Musical. It was really great to hear Jessie Mueller again after her outstanding work in Carole. Her voice is sweet with a large range. I would still suspect that her part could be a winner at the tony's as well.
