Not what it used to be

by EP_BornandRaised on 6/21/19McKelligon Canyon Theatre - El Paso

This was our 5th time attending the show and Viva has done alot of changes. Even though they kept some of the same old songs, stories and dances, their new additions have been all but entertaining. The worst addition was the solo by the Conquistador. This singer has no business trying to sing. Tone deaf is all I heard as my ears began to bleed. In addition to the poor singing and acting, we had the unfortunate experience of sitting in front of former cast members. As they gossiped, yelled shoutouts to cast members, and sang along (also out of tune) right behind us. We did not enjoy and are debating going back.

    Different then Other Years’

by Raspberry11 on 6/17/19McKelligon Canyon Theatre - El Paso

I was hoping for more dancing rather then singing. One character in particular should practice on his vocal skills. I’ve enjoyed the years before but this year I was not all into it.

This year's show wasn't up to par. The singing, casting, and acting were rudimentary at best. The host was far too loud and obnoxious. Some of the previous cast members and some of the dancing kept the show alive. Prior years were amazing, this year lacked experience.

Viva El Paso July 28th, 2018

by Airforcefan on 7/31/18McKelligon Canyon Theatre - El Paso

The Viva El Paso show was entertaining but I've been to the show 4 different years and this year the show was not as good as past years. The theme has changes and it's not as good as the past shows. I would not want to see this show again where in past performances I've always enjoyed seeing more than once. This show was ok but not what I was exoecting to see.

    A Fun Evening

by qwertyuiop12345 on 7/31/18McKelligon Canyon Theatre - El Paso

This is a fun evening under the stars and surrounded by beautiful mountains. Although the presentation itself is pretty close to a high school play (at times junior high), that doesn't take away from the fun that can be had. The costumes are great, and the dancing on occasion is good. The original songs are not in any way memorable, but the enthusiasm is nonetheless contagious. Worth seeing!

    Outdoor entertainment can be fun!

by D1515 on 7/17/18McKelligon Canyon Theatre - El Paso

Having seen last year's show several times I am not sure if this year's is better, but it is different. What I am sure of, is that Viva is good fun, and most visitors will be entertained by the song and dance. An outdoor venue brings some inherent issues. Weather can spoil the show, or cause a cancellation, which can be a heartbreaker for out-of-town visitors. The acoustics can be influenced by wind, etc. The variety of dances will entertain most lovers of the arts.

Viva El Paso was a refreshing history lesson given at a great price in a beautiful outdoor theater. I fully recommend it.

    Disappointed

by 4Travelers on 7/10/18McKelligon Canyon Theatre - El Paso

I saw this show 20 years ago and I loved it. Now I live in Phoenix and I invited some friends to go see it. I was truly disappointed about the quality of the show. The mariachi is painful to watch, the director loves the spotlight and he is a really bad singer with no charisma, he should let the other people sing. The concept of the show is still good but this company looked very amateurish. The mayor and his wife can take some singing and acting lessons. My overall rating in one word is disappointing. It was definitely a waste of time and effort to drive 6 hours to see this show.

    Viva El Paso Confusing

Viva El Paso was confusing and became a joke to our family. We came all the way from Corpus to see it. It was a major disappointment.

Viva El Paso-What a great show!

by Tamen on 7/3/18McKelligon Canyon Theatre - El Paso

We have attended other Viva El Paso shows and this one has been one of the best by far. The new changes they incorporated including referencing local people like the Schwartz' & Don Haskins really added a personal feeling and a sense of pride of how far El Paso has come. The costumes were awesome and the performers were very talented. Great job and outstanding performance!

    Okay-ish show

by SandraQ on 6/19/18McKelligon Canyon Theatre - El Paso

I enjoyed all of the beautiful colors and amazing dances, but sitting at the top row was a huge mistake. I could not hear their dialogue at all and could barely make out the songs they would sing. The vendors/staff working at the concessions stands were also too loud. Either their talking or using machines to make the food was a bit much. I suggest that anyone going to these shows sit closer to the stage to hear better. Hopefully they’ll do something about the sound soon, but for now, sit up front.

    Viva!

by MikeandGloria on 6/19/18McKelligon Canyon Theatre - El Paso

The onpening act from the St Pius X Special Needs Group was inspirational. The singing of the Viva cast, especially the soloists, was the best we've heard in all the many years we've attended Viva. The dancing was terrific. The comedy was just right. And the tribute to the military was spot on.

    2018 Viva El Paso

by weenersmom on 6/18/18McKelligon Canyon Theatre - El Paso

I have seen this wonderful show since i was a child. Thiax new version is horrible. So much Spanish in the show, that I could not even understand what was happening. So much for all 6 flags. France and the wild west were barely touched. i was saddened that i could not share this wonderful memory with my own children.

    Not what we expected.

by RBeccera on 6/18/18Canyon - El Paso

Complete waste of money and time. Traveled in from Sante Fe with family and we were all disappointed. The only thing amazing was the setting of the mountains and the night sky. Sound was horrible. Bring back Mr. Barba and his team to save this beloved show. The story line does not flow at all, you have native americans dancing while there are set pieces that are meant to be in act 2. The old Viva! show had techs roll out the correct time period set pieces out according to the story. Much more dancing in the show which was good. The absolute bottom line is to bring back the old Viva! show with the story of the bride and the abuela under the tree talking about the family ancestors. The old show was much better.
