    What happened!?!?

by Y. G. on 8/8/22McKelligon Canyon Theatre - El Paso

Honestly I’ve been going to viva El Paso since I was a little girl. It had been a while since I’ve been able to attend since I moved away from El Paso. I took my future in laws to see the show and get the history of El Paso as well as what encouraged me to dance. I was soo disappointed!!! The dancers were off, some dancers didn’t know the choreography, the microphones weren’t working so you couldn’t hear the dialogue, they added scenes that just didn’t even flow with the show, and the props on stage are nothing like they used to be! I feel like I was watching a production put on by high school kids. Such a shame that something that has been around for years is deteriorating.

    Disappointed

by Fco on 8/2/22McKelligon Canyon Theatre - El Paso

Could have been a better presentation. Sound system wasn’t good. Some of the performers we just couldn’t hear them so, we missed the massage. The rain started creeping in on or about at 10pm when the show was stopped. So we all missed the final closing of the show. The price had added fees. One GenAdm was over $39 after everything was added. In addition there are very, very, very limited parking spaces for the handicapped. We had a exhausting time climbing up those stairs we had no one from the venue to help us. Very disappointed !!!

Expensive tickets for the poor quality of the show

by Lyza on 7/26/22McKelligon Canyon Theatre - El Paso

First of all, I bought the tickets on Ticketmaster for a groups of friends, not knowing I could them at the Plaza Theater box office for 24.00 only, instead of the 39. 40 that I ended up paying for each. I had attended Viva El Paso for many years and even took students on field trips back in the day when those excursions were allowed. I have wonderful memories of those times and those shows. I wanted to support El Paso events, so I decided to invite a few friends to the see the show since they had never watched it before. But I was very disappointed with the poor quality of the show in general. The dancers were off and seemed some didn't know the routine well. The songs and some scenes were changed completely, and the technical problems with mics not working happened throughout the show. The show was not at the high caliber that it used to be. The best part when the VIva El Paso sign was lit at the end by a flying arrow is no longer. I understand that shows evolve with time and parts have to be modified and rewritten to align with the changes in the city and its people, but this season left a lot to be desired. That is the reason I gave it three stars.

I love Viva El Paso! It is an amazing show, full of history, beautiful dances and great music! The actors put in so much effort in their rehearsals and it really shows in the high energy of this show! I love Miss Alice, with all of her spunk, attitude and amazing singing!♥️

    Disappointing!!!

by Pat on 7/5/22McKelligon Canyon Theatre - El Paso

#1. Staff were late opening the gates. #2. After standing in line for one hour, staff announced people needed to be in two lines: one for people with reserved sitting and another for general admission. #3. Opening song was too long!!! I noticed the same composer had other songs that were nice but not a good fit for this venue. 4. Sound system was not working a lot of the time, it was very frustrating. 5. I was expecting to see a professional group performing but most were amateurs. In the past, I knew I was watching a professional performance not on July 2. 6. The costumes were lacking, I hope in the future they can be better. 7. It started to sprinkle during the intermission and we were told to leave without refunds or rain checks. I would be happier if I was given the opportunity to come back and see the ending at least! We had several of our family come from out of town to watch the performance and I was embarrassed by it. I will not come back or recommend Viva El Paso in the future!!!

Disappointed and let down! Being from and growing up in EP Viva! Was a summer time must, so I was excited to show my spouse (who isn’t from here) and other first timers this EP gem. The show was going ok and then intermission came. They then announced that the show will be canceled due to weather. As people were walking out they were asking about a refund, the staff was letting people know that since it was intermission no refunds can be granted. I get it, they can’t control the weather. BUT, the disappointing part is that there was thunder and lightning during the show right when it started. Yet… the show continued. So if weather was such a concern why not stop it there? We all felt that they just pushed through to intermission so they didn’t have to offer refunds. Maybe it was the crappy sound and some of the dancers not knowing the choreography and having to look at the other dancers to see what count they were on. Needless to say this experience ruined Viva! For me and my guests.

    Lot of technical issues

by Yole on 8/9/21McKelligon Canyon Theatre - El Paso

The performers were outstanding. Having seen the show many times over the years felt that the changes in storyline did not meet up to previous shows. Many of the microphones were not working, the light effects that are usually amazing were absent. Too much of a slant catering to Mexican nationals. Did appreciate the recognition of our troops. Lost the impact of the meztizo when the charro standing on the mountain did not light up etc. Stairs are way too steep to the seating area. Almost everyone had to hold on to the rails to keep from falling and saw a few stumbles. Disappointed.

First time to Viva El Paso!

by Claudia on 8/4/21McKelligon Canyon Theatre - El Paso

This is the first time we all went to the show. When we bought the tickets, we were not aware that the show was in Spanish. My mother had said that they showcase different languages or different cultures so we assumed it was Spain but we did not realize the performance would be in Spanish. It was not a problem, but I just was not clear at the ticket sales time. The show was lovely, the music was great! We enjoyed seeing El paso through the stages in time. The sound system was lacking, and many times we could not hear the actors because their microphone sound was gone. We enjoyed the fact that they came outside and were available for photography after the show. We will go next year again!

    Great Show Bad Sound

by P. V. on 7/23/21McKelligon Canyon Theatre - El Paso

This event could be perfect, if the sound system (and its operation) were up to professional standards. I loved the show - great dancing, amazing singing, exciting pace - telling the story of El Paso. As mentioned, the sound was so bad it was a black mark. To end on a positive note, the weather and the canyon venue were great to the point of magical.

    Culture

by Fun915Peace on 8/2/19McKelligon Canyon Theatre - El Paso

It's been more than 10+ since last time that I went. I really like it and just wish there was a bit more to offer. Great experience. Hopefully the event can be extended through the winter.

    A must see for all!

by S. M. on 7/31/19McKelligon Canyon Theatre - El Paso

Before the show, the mariachi band entertained everyone on the patio and also before the show started in the amphitheater. They even had audience participation. As far as the show itself, SIMPLY AMAZING!!! We had such a good time. Everything was awesome; the dancers, the singers, the colors, the history lesson and the pageantry. I recommend everyone to check out this show. I wouldn't mind seeing it again myself.

It wasn't as good as the original performances.

by M. E. on 7/31/19McKelligon Canyon Theatre - El Paso

The "Pizzazz" of the the original Viva El Paso was missing. The microphones worked off and on so what was being said was not clear. Some of the singers were off key. It was awkward to have the Indians and Spaniards on stage with the saloon and other future props on stage. The way props were changed in the past lent itself better in telling the story. I missed the part of how Fort Bliss came to be. I didn't care for Bowie or Don Haskins being added. There was too much narration from the performers. We sat in the back because my husband and his brother use a cane and have difficulty with the steps. When we arrived, there were people sitting in our seats. They had double-booked the seats. They gave us some folding chairs to sit on at the top, but the people who work in that back area were talking loud and banging chairs and tables making it difficult for us to hear what the actors were saying.

    So Very Sad!

by Ms Deb on 7/30/19McKelligon Canyon Theatre - El Paso

I have been to, probably, 15 Viva! El Paso performances over the years. It has beautifully shown the history of the region in spectacular song and dance. This year's version was, at best, a high school performance. The acting was at a novice level and the voices of most of the singers were off-key. However, the most disappointing part was how the storyline was rewritten. There were tiny snippets of historical facts and rather than celebrating our unique history up to the coming of the railroad, this rendition took the story to the 21st century, including references to the disco era in Juarez and our position as a manufacturing hub in the world marketplace. This story needs to be re-rewritten to go back to the pageantry that was initially VIVA!!

Great show in a beautiful venue

    by J & A on 7/29/19McKelligon Canyon Theatre - El Paso

We had been meaning to see Viva El Paso for many years and were finally able to go the last weekend of the 2019 season. McKelligon Canyon Amphitheatre is a beautiful place and the show was very entertaining. The weather was warm, of course, but the summer evening rains were busy elsewhere and we enjoyed a starry sky. You could tell that the performers and musicians enjoyed what they were doing, and they easily overcame the minor problems that make live shows so interesting. Our only complaint is that the El Paso marketing during the 3rd hour of the show was too tedious, but all-in-all a great time. Don't miss it!

    Awesome show

by JRod on 7/24/19McKelligon Canyon Theatre - El Paso

This is the 2nd time I have seen this show (1st time was 2001). It was just as great as I remembered. I would go more often if I lived in the area. The show is presenting its 42nd year. History of El Paso through song, dance, and narration in an outdoor amphitheater in the side of the Franklin Mountains. Beautiful scenery. A truly incredible experience.

I loved the show, what I didn’t like was the shoutouts

by GG on 7/16/19McKelligon Canyon Theatre - El Paso

They take time away from show. Also need to make it more festive, more vendors.

    Viva the Performance

by Art on 6/24/19McKelligon Canyon Theatre - El Paso

Great show that captured El Paso's heritage, long history and greatness. The performers were crisp and in sync. There was comedy, drama and great dancing. The choreography was spectacular and blended the story in dance. I would definitely recommend this show to family and friends.

    it was okay

by Rudr3 on 6/23/19McKelligon Canyon Theatre - El Paso

they have really done a lot of changes to the show , some good some really bad ones, i first saw the show in the 1990s and really enjoyed it, this time was not as good, the old program was much better, they took something that was really great and made it ok .
