About

Five time Grammy Award winner Victor Wooten has been heralded as "the Michael Jordan of the bass" and "one of the most fearless musicians on the planet." His talent has led to invitations to record and perform with such luminaries as Bootsy Collins, Branford Marsalis, Keb Mo, Chic Corea, The Dave Matthews Band and the legendary Moroccan group Nass El Ghiwane, to name just a few.  He is also a founding member of the super-group Béla Fleck and the Flecktones.

Gerrard Allman Presents is proud to announce the return of Victor Wooten to Australia for a run of headline shows in May and June 2023.  In an Australian first, Victor will be performing with his band of (literal) brothers – The Wooten Brothers. Joseph (keys / vocals), Roy (percussion/vocals) and Regi (guitar/vocals).

For over four decades The Wooten Brothers have been recognised as some of the most innovative musicians in existence and are collectively known as one of the most talented and dynamic band of brothers the world has ever known. Since they were young, the five brothers (Rudy – a saxophonist, sadly passed away in 2010) have been a musical tour-de-force redefining the limits of jazz, funk, soul, R&B, rock and bluegrass.  Sons of military parents, the boys early years were spent living in Hawaii, California and Virginia – where they shared the stages with the likes of Curtis Mayfield, The Temptations, and many others.  In the mid-1980s, the brothers released an album as The Wootens for Clive Davis’ Arista Records.

Kicking off with 2 shows at Melbourne’s Memo Music Hall on Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 May, the tour also takes in Adelaide’s The Gov on May 26, Freo Social Club in WA on May 27, Sydney’s Manning Bar on May 30 and Lizotte’s Newcastle on May 31 before finishing up at Brisbane’s Princess Theatre on June 1.  Tickets to all shows are on sale now.  Don’t miss.

  • A night I'll never forget

by Daniel on 10/8/23The Fillmore Silver Spring - Silver SpringRating: 5 out of 5

Discovered Victor last summer yet the beginning and after the performance I felt like I knew the guy my whole life. This guy inspires me every day to keep going at it with my guitar. His brothers are amazing and the story of all the wootens is incredible. The day after I still was feeling the groove and goosebumps of that night.

Victor Wooten, renowned bassist, and his three brothers put on a tour de force performance showcasing their many talents. They are gifted musicians and entertainers with positive uplifting songs both original and covers. Highly recommended.

No matter what kind of music you like, seeing Victor Wooten and Steve Bailey in person is a treat that nobody should miss. The Culture room has no bad sight lines and the sound system is amazing.

Wonderful venue. Joyful music from the heart. Victor and Steve were awesome as always. But the drummer!!! Most excellent and always spot on! My new favorite drummer.

  • Bass Extremes!!

by G square on 10/8/22Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra BeachRating: 5 out of 5

Victor Wooten & Steve Bailey - 30 years of playing together- they weaved seamlessly through lyrical melodies, chromatic melodies, funk statements, traditional jazz, with Derico Watson holding it all together on those drums. Each one had their solo moments and executed their moments in the spotlight exquisitely. A stellar performance!!

  • Outstanding, except...

by FloridaConcert on 10/8/22Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra BeachRating: 5 out of 5

The performance was outstanding - these gentlemen are true Masters of their art - hope they return! The venue, or someone, put a start time on the tickets of 7pm, when it was actually 8pm. We have a drive of over an hour, with lots to accomplish with animals and dinner, etc., before we leave home. We rushed everything to arrive at 6:50pm. The parking attendant told us the tickets were wrong - UGH. In the future we will confirm with three sources before we leave the house.

  • Top Ten Favorite All-Time Concerts

by Cornflower on 10/5/22Bijou Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 5 out of 5

I have been watching Victor Wooten since I saw my very first concert in my Junior Year in High School when I snuck into a bar at the age of 16 and got a front-row seat right in from of him as he played with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. I've been blessed to meet him and have read both of his books. He is a marvel of a musician. I had never heard of or seen Steve Bailey before, nor Rico the drummer... WOW! I told them afterward that they should put a warning label on the ticket and outside of the theater: "This Music is Mind and Heart Altering!" I walked out of the Bijou a new person. Their music and performance transformed me from the inside out. This is a MUST-SEE concert. Move mountains to get to a show, you WILL NOT be disappointed you did!

  • You have to see it to believe it!

    by 1BigVol on 10/5/22Bijou Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Victor and Steve made music with bass guitars I never knew was possible! Derico held down on the drum kit like no one else could! It was simply amazing!

  • Wow!!

Absolutely one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Such amazing talent and good people too! The world needs more good people.

  • Phenomenal show!

by JB on 10/5/22Bijou Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Besides being an incredible bass player, Victor is a great entertainer and knows how to create a complete show. Steve Bailey complements him so well in their different styles, and added another dimension and depth. Rounding out the tri was Derico Watson who blew my mind with his drumming. As a drummer myself, i really appreciated is dynamic control and creativity with fills and solos. And to top it off, Derico sang on one song - I had no idea that he has such a great voice.

  • Incredible Experience

  • Fantastic

    by Gadgetman000 on 5/26/22Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

I am fortunate enough to have been able to see Victor Wooten years ago at Tower Records in Nashville when he was promoting his Soul Circus album, so when I saw that he was going to be at the Birchmere with Bailey & Bissonette just a month after newly moving to Arlington, it was a no brainer. I got to the Birchmere about two hours before the show and was already too late to get a great seat, but found a really good seat at a table next to another Bass Enthusiast. The show was incredible! Bass Extremes puts on a GREAT show! Bissonette’s Fretless 6 string, Wooten’s incredible skills on the Fodera along with Bailey on the drums, was an incredible experience! Lights, some fog, and some incredibly talented musicians… Even though I’ve got the albums, experiencing them live made my year! Not to mention the stories and history that really connect these guys to the crowd - made it a very personal experience as well. Good food, surrounded by music other enthusiasts, listening to some great low frequencies… who could ask for anything more!

  • Awesome

by AF on 5/21/22Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5

As a bass player seeing these guys in a small venue is a once in lifetime experience.

  • Fantastic musicianship - sound, just ok

by Mike on 5/17/22The Cabot - BeverlyRating: 5 out of 5

These guys put on a fantastic show and lived up to all my expectations. Unfortunately, the audio quality suffered. The first 15 minutes or so was distracting because of low frequency feedback and generally poor intelligibility. It got better as the show progressed, but it sounded like they never got a proper soundcheck.

  • Bass Extreme

by Tootie on 5/16/22The Cabot - BeverlyRating: 5 out of 5

Three exceptional musicians performed a riveting night of solo and trio orchestrations. The crowd was wowed by the history of their vast musical knowledge. A ticket to witness greatness in history!
