TY SEGALL IN CONCERT:
With his fuzzed-out guitars, analog organs, jaunty drums, and knack for Beatles-esque melodies, Ty Segall is one of the most compelling and prolific artists to throw his hat in the late-'60s/early-'70s rock revival ring in recent memory. Segall is a anything but a retro novelty -- just when his free-wheeling, psychedelic tunes start to feel familiar, he throws in an unexpected harmonic or tempo change, and it's these surprising sonic curveballs that make his raucous live shows such riveting affairs. Segall's 2014 album Manipulator was his most-polished and acclaimed release yet and he does it total justice in concert, treating fans to swirling, sweltering sets full of compact, infinitely catchy garage rock nuggets like "The Singer" and "Feel".
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
San Francisco-based psych rock wunderkind Ty Segall got his start in the mid-'00s performing with a variety of West Coast underground bands including Epsilons and Party Fowl. He launched his solo career in 2008 with several cassette releases, and later that year he made his proper debut with an eponymous album released on Castle Face Records. He followed up in 2009 with Lemons, a critically acclaimed album that helped garner him a growing national fanbase thanks to standout tracks like "Cents". Since then Segal has released an album every year, incorporating new instruments and musical styles on each successive outing. In 2014 he dropped his seventh studio effort Manipulator, a muscular and wildly creative double-album that has both critics and fans hailing him as one of garage rocks most worthy contemporary torchbearers.

Amazing music played by AMAZING musicians! So awesome to be able to see live music again….especially when the band is as rad as this one was!!!!
Acoustically or shredding with the Freedom band, Ty Segall is one of the best performers today. The chemistry he has with Emmett Kelly(guitarist) is unlike anything I have ever seen. They have grown a lot, and really know how to put on a great show. Can’t wait to buy tickets to the next tour!
It was an outstanding show , power , acoustic prowess. My only complaint was Mr Segall never acknowledged the city he was in or the fans at the DANFORTH Music Hall. Miles Davis he is not ! As he never acknowledged his fans ! Either
Like I said. Immaculate performances all around in a venue the size of a shoebox.
What an amazing show. Insane. I've been following TS for some time, and always enjoyed his style of garage rock. But I haven't seen him live, so I wasn't sure what to expect. But after a couple of light, T-Rex style acoustic tracks, he launched into the most insane, psychedelic-grunge-meets-free-jazz set that was kind of unbelievable. He was painting the kind of epic, wild, abstract imagery with his sounds that would have made Jackson Pollock giddy with laughter. I loved every second of it.
Had never seen them before but will go again completely blown away by their live show
I'm sure the show was great! I had been wanting to see his show since Ty's residency for New Years Eve week at The Chapel was cancelled. With COVID-19 policies changing, and no flexibility for refunds made this an annoying situation as I would have liked to attend. At the very last minute the venue was changed from the Fillmore to The Chapel. The two venues have different COVID-19 guidelines and I wasn't able to attend. The Fillmore would not issue a refund for all of these last minute changes, so I'm out $50+. While I understand keeping the public safe and complying to guidelines, I do not understand last minute changes and no flexibility for refund.
Look, I've been going to shows for over 20 years, and I'm not going to get into the pit anymore - but dammit I did because I couldn't help myself. What an amazing time.
Ty was especially fired up tonight! Was the best show of the 10 show residency.
Great live show. He played all of first taste and manipulator. Fun atmosphere and a lot of energy
