    A beautiful, intriguing ballet!

by Bryndad on 5/10/16Ames Center - Burnsville

We chose to go to this ballet, because our child is taking lessons this year for the first time with Ballet Royale. We all knew (of course) the Cinderella story; but setting it in World War II England was a wonderful touch. The costumes were historically accurate for the most part; choices for the music were absolutely excellent; from the opening strains of Barber's Adagio for strings, to a section from Eric Coates' "London Everyday Suite" for the final pas de deux, The artistic director gave us a seamless presentation of her balletic ideal. The only thing it seemed a bit out of place was the animal ballet with all the little children; but when you're a ballet school, you have to get everyone involved! As a newbie to Twin Cities Ballet, I am looking forward to seeing other productions from this company in the future. The dancing is superb, costumes and sets for lovely, and the recorded music was very well presented.

Twin Cities Ballet did a phenominal performance

    by Moonbeam65 on 5/10/16Ames Center - Burnsville

My entire family enjoyed the Cinderella 1944: A Love Story; even my older teen aged son. The dancers were light on their feet and showed enthusiam throughout the entire performance. The facial expressions, gestures and music chosen ensured the audience they understood the story, despite no spoken words.

    Amazing

by ibike on 12/16/15Ames Center - Burnsville

I came away with a completely new respect for the dedication and sacrifice that the ballet dancers have to have to be able to perform. Stamina is another attribute that show in a 90 minute performance. Professional NFL, NBA and MLB have nothing over these dedicated men, women and young people!!!

    Beautiful Ballet

by JMRDancer on 12/16/15Ames Center - Burnsville

My mother and sister make it a point to attend a nutcracker performance each year. We were pleasantly surprised at this performance! The back drops contained recognizable images from Minnesota. The ballerinas were exceptional! They had beautiful technique and extensions! I highly recommend anyone who enjoys beautiful ballet to see this show!

    Fabulous Holiday Show!

by Anonymous on 12/16/15Ames Center - Burnsville

We thoroughly enjoyed every moment of this performance. From the beautiful costumes and Minnesota-themed backdrops to the amazingly talented dancers, it was the perfect way to immerse ourselves in Christmas and the holiday season! It's certainly a show for all ages to enjoy! The Ames Center and surrounding area are spectacular! Tree-lit lined streets led us to the festive Ames Center and courtyard...all decked out in holiday color! Free ramp parking was a nice surprise and added bonus! The theatre itself is comfortable, intimate, and offered us great views of the stage and performers!

    Great Nutcracker

by Maineprairiefamily on 12/16/15Ames Center - Burnsville

My daughter's and I go to the Nutcracker every Christmas. This is the best one we have seen. I thought the quality of the dance was very high by all the performers. I thought the male dancers were exceptional. They really drew us in to their performances. I also thought the costumes were very high quality. Overall, very well produced and performed show. We will be seeing other productions by this company.

Lovely ballet for the whole family!

by MNMomDL on 12/15/15Ames Center - Burnsville

This was my third year to go to the ballet -- this time with all four children (ages 9, 7, 5, and 3) and my husband. Everyone loved it! My children have always loved the Nutcracker ballet. They watch the Mikhail Baryshnikov version every Christmas. So seeing it live was just magical for them. The dancers were wonderful, especially Uncle Drosselmeier and the pas de deux with the Sugar Plum Fairy. The scenery was beautiful, the staging very nice. The scenic references to MN were also delightful. We went to the matinee so there were other small children there enjoying it as well. Nicely done! It's become a new family tradition.

A Minnesota Nutcracker was so enjoyable!

by Kayzeeq on 12/15/15Ames Center - Burnsville

The dancing, stage design and the backdrops were awesome. Looking through the Scrim into the family home was breathtaking! Truly enjoyed the little girls who sat around us who "ooohed" and "awwwed" through the entire production. This is a must see!

A typical local ballet team, cute but not amazing

by EmmyC on 12/14/15Ames Center - Burnsville

For the price you pay, Minnesota Nutcracker nicely serves as a cute local ballet where a good amount of effort was put in by people who are somewhere between amateur and absolute pro. It would be (obviously) nonsense to compare the technique or stage set-up of this kind of local ballet to that of NY Broadway ballet that costs >$200. However, the story line is a different case, in my opinion. I don't think you need tons of money to come up with a good story line and/or to know which scenes are unnecessary within that story line. It was impossible to find any sort of story or meaning in the second half of Minnesota Nutcracker @Ames Center. The first half was at least cute and funny, while not filled with professional dancers. It's a very inexpensive show, so I was quite content with the first half. But the second half was just a string of random groups of dancers dancing with absolutely no story.. Here's another thing. I've actually been to a number of Twin Cities Ballet's shows, and I consistently observed how they try hard to incorporate a wide range of dancers including little kids and/or amateurs. (Don't get me wrong; there were always a few really really talented dancers too. I am saying that the majority of dancers were far from professional.) It's very nice of them to give a wide range of dancers a chance to be on stage, and I'm sure the kids' parents are very happy with this kind of welcoming attitude of Twin Cities Ballet. But from the audience's point of view, Twin Cities Ballet sometimes goes a little too far with it. No matter how cheap the ticket is, people simply don't expect more than a half of the show time to be filled with amateur dancers being cute/silly. Let me summarize. For what you pay, it's a nice way to spend ~2 hours with your kids. But it's very very far from the kind of ballet where you want to take your date on a romantic night.

Nutcracker was a delight!!! A gala evening!!

by BA2014 on 1/8/15Ames Center (formerly Burnsville Performing Arts Center) - Burnsville

We attended the 4:30 pm performance on Sunday, December 14, 2014. It was awesome...the staging, dancers and performance hall made it a very special evening. And what a lovely performance hall...a real asset to Burnsville. We were sitting in Orchestra Right but the hall is designed so well, I doubt there is a bad seat in the house. Ours were wonderful!!! We were very impressed with the quality and discipline of the dance troupe. A very well-done performance on everyone's part!!! In addition, purchasing our tickets through Ticketmaster was seamless and with very good service.

    Amazing local talent

by KMS1069 on 12/22/14Ames Center (formerly Burnsville Performing Arts Center) - Burnsville

I was excited to find such a professional production South of the River. The local youth talent was impressive and the professional dancers were amazing! I missed having an orchestra, but other than that, we were pleasantly surprised!

    A family tradition!

by Balletisfun on 12/20/14Ames center - Burnsville

Have seen this production for a few years now. Overall very good! I thought last years was better in some ways. The Clara was much stronger and I really didn't care for the addition of another Clara in the second act. But I also noticed that the drosselmeyer character was an improvement. Costumes and sets were lovely! Ames is a very nice venue. Show was a bit too long.
